Title: AROUSE (Spiral of Bliss #1) (4.5 Stars)

Genre: Contemporary Romance with a very sexy married couple.
Publication Date: January 2, 2013

“One day I’m going to touch you in a thousand different ways and show you how to touch me,” he said.
And he did.
Struggling with a tormented past, undergraduate Olivia Winter once led a practical but isolated life. Then she met Professor Dean West, a brilliant scholar of medieval history who melted Liv’s inhibitions and taught her the meaning of both love and erotic pleasure. But after three years of a blissful, lusty marriage, Liv and Dean now face a crisis that threatens everything they believe about each other…and sex might not be enough to save them.
About the Author:
Nina Lane is a multi-published author of elegant, romantic and often raunchy erotica. Her recent release AROUSE is the first book in the Spiral of Bliss series, and her novel THE EROTIC DARK is a #1 Amazon erotica bestseller.
Nina used to write novels under the name Natasha Rostova and has published stories in anthologies such as “Best Women’s Erotica” and “Erotic Travel Tales.” Her work has been translated into both German and Japanese. In addition to writing, she’s an avid reader who loves popcorn and has recently joined a workout boot-camp that is kicking her rear end.
I loved the book, Arouse. It had it’s points that I wanted to strangle the character’s in the book, most specifically Liv. The character’s were well defined in the book and the banter between all of them was superbly written. Excellent job, Nina!!
My favorite part’s of the book are watching the relationship between Liv and Dean go through stages, and watching Liv change and grow as a person. Dean and Liv are very passionate and I noticed when one felt something strong the other acted out upon it. They are a force to be reckoned with.
There is also a lot of meaning in the book-we get to see what happens in a marriage that seemed to be built well when betrayal come between both of them. You will need to read the book to see if they can get past their hurdles or if the obstacles will force them to succumb to temptation.
I look forward to the second book, Allure, to come out next.
This book is recommended for mature readers over 18. Contains adult matter.
Interview with Nina Lane, Dean and Liv:
I would like to welcome Nina Lane, Dean and Olivia West to Cruising Susan’s Book Review. Today we are discussing Nina Lane’s book “Arouse”. I am really excited to have Nina here to discuss her book and interview Dean and Olivia.
1.) Nina – First, I want you to know that you are more than just an author to many people out there. Your desire in reaching out to your readers is noticed and appreciated. I know for me you are in inspiration. You take time for your readers and followers and with the schedule of a writer that is not always an easy task. What makes you want to write and when did you start writing? What was your very first story you have every told? Did you know when you were growing up that you would be where you are today, with a hit book and another one coming out, soon?
Thank you, Susan! I absolutely love to write and have been writing for as long as I can remember – the earliest story I still have is one in which I wrote about an “electric horse.” I was about 5 or 6 and wrote that I’d want to ride it around my garden. I knew from a very early age that writing would always be part of my life, though I went through the usual “what should I be when I grow up” stages before I finally realized that being an author was it for me. For about twenty years, though, I’ve had a very strong sense of “this is what I’m supposed to do.”
2.)Dean and Olivia – What keeps the attraction in each other?
Liv: LOOK at him! He’s gorgeous. All that thick, dark hair, and those eyes that look right into you. Wow. He made me whole body tingle that first time he looked at me. And then when I realized he was so brilliant and patient, and that he had this strong, protective instinct toward me…I will never stop wanting him.
Dean: Liv is beautiful, intelligent, and she has a core of purity. She’s still innocent, even after what she’s been through. I love everything about her. Everything keeps me attracted to her.
3.)How did you both know that you were each other’s “The One”?
Liv: I knew when I realized how much I just wanted to be with him, how happy he made me. That first year together was one of the best times of my life. I could see myself with him, see us together. And I wanted him to know everything about me.
Dean: I just knew she was mine. I don’t know how.
4.) How have you been able to overcome the trust issue that you both have for each other?
Liv: It goes back to the early part of our relationship. I’d trusted very few people in my life before I met Dean. But when we met, I just knew I could trust him. I felt it instinctively. And even though we’ve had a lot of trouble, that underlying belief is still there. It’s never gone away. It never will.
Dean: I know my wife. I know what she has been through. I know the core of her. That’s all I need.
5.)Do you believe you will hear from Tyler again?
Liv: I never want to see him again. No.
Dean: He won’t get near Liv again. Ever.
6.) Dean, what about your ex, do you think you will ever hear from her again?
Dean: Helen has submitted a proposal for the upcoming conference I’m organizing, so yes, at some point we’ll see each other again. I don’t care. I haven’t seen her in 15 years. I don’t particularly want to see her again, but we’ve been done with each other for a long time. So it really doesn’t matter anymore.
7.)I love the commitment you both have in each other – What keeps that commitment there?
Liv: We’ve been through a lot. We’ve worked to be together. We want to be together.
Dean: And we haven’t put in that work because we ever intend to give up on each other.
8.)You both are extremely passionate in each other, what keeps the passion coming?
Liv: Dean is very, very good at what he does. Both outside of the bedroom and in it.
Dean: Liv is so damn sexy. I just have to look at her, and I want her.
9.) Is there anything that we can see in the future coming up for you?
Liv: We need to learn how to be a couple again, especially after what we went through and all the doubts that we had. But we are committed, and we never stopped loving each other through it all.
10.) Dean, can you tell us anything about how you are feeling right now about having a family?
Dean: I’m determined to do it right. Even though we didn’t plan on having a baby, the fact is that Liv is pregnant. I’ll take care of her with everything I have and plan for our future family.
11.)Nina, what brought you about to tell Dean and Olivia’s story?
It actually started as a short erotic story about a woman who is trying to get pregnant, and the characters just evolved when I sat down to write one afternoon. I really didn’t have any intention of telling this specific story – it’s almost like Liv and Dean just showed up in my head and decided to tell me their story. I did, however, want to do something a bit different in telling an erotic, romantic story about a married couple who are already deeply in love and have to fight for each other all over again.
12.) Nina, how do you come up with the passion between the two them?
I just wrote it down! Starting with Liv and Dean being a passionate, married couple made it easy to write the sexy scenes. And I think a lot of their heat stems from the dynamic between them—that Liv depends on Dean and he takes care of her. It’s the same way for them in the bedroom. They have a kind of dominant/submissive vibe, which is intensified by their love.
13.)Nina, what are your favorite parts of Dean and Olivia? What makes them stand out than any story member you know?
I really like their vulnerabilities. I like that Liv is somewhat insecure, not really certain of her place in the world but still trying to find it. And that Dean, for all his protectiveness and strength, is the most vulnerable when it comes to his wife. Anything negative involving Liv hurts Dean to the core.
14.) Olivia and Dean – readers want to get to know you and see what you both love about each other. I have some questions for you both that may help us gain insight into you better.
- Dean and Olivia – what color do you represent each other’s personalities and why that color? For instance, Dean, do you see Olivia as being red for passion? That was just an example.
Liv: Dean is a dark, royal blue. Confident, loyal, trustworthy, strong. The color of devotion and intelligence. A very masculine color.
Dean: Liv is purple, a mixture of red and blue. Lovely, sensitive, and kind but also sometimes intense and mysterious.
- What do you both like to wear to bed?
Liv: My white nightgown or loose pants and a cotton, camisole top.
Dean: Pajama bottoms. No shirt.
If you both were to have a romantic evening together what would it be?
Liv: Staying home, having a good dinner then some hot, passionate sex.
Dean: That’s what we do almost every night.
Shower together or alone?
Liv: Both. Depending on the situation.
Dean: Both. Though if I’m in a hurry, I have to be alone or Liv will jump all over me.
- How much PDA is acceptable for the both of you?
Liv: Just the occasional kiss or hand-holding. We’re private.
Dean: How about that hotel balcony?
Liv: That wasn’t exactly public.
Dean: We don’t know that.
Liv: Good point.
If you both were to have another honeymoon or vacation together where would it be and what would you see yourself doing on it?
Liv: We’d go to Europe again, probably Paris. Visit museums, eat at cafés, travel into the countryside. We honeymooned in Paris, which is a city Dean knows well because he goes there often for work.
Dean: Except I wouldn’t work if we were on another honeymoon.
Liv: Oh, you’d work. Just not on researching medieval architecture.
- Lace or leather?
Liv: On me? Definitely lace.
Dean: Either on Liv. Neither on me, god forbid.
Liv: I think you’d look hot in leather pants.
Dean: I’d be hot in leather pants. Sweaty hot.
Clubbing or candlelight dinner?
Liv: Candlelight dinner.
Dean: Candlelight dinner.
Backpacking or luxury hotel?
Liv: Hmm. Backpacking during the day, then going back to a luxury hotel for the night.
Dean: I’ll agree, but only because I know Liv would never get naked at night if we were sleeping in a tent in the middle of nowhere.
Dean would you consider Olivia a morning or night person? Olivia same question?
Liv: He is the WORST morning person ever. Up at dawn to go running, then he comes home all energized and full of vim and vigor. By the time he’s out of the shower and dressed in his suit and tie, he’s all ready for the day and I’m still waking up. But he does make the coffee.
Dean: I don’t think I need to say that Liv is a night person.
Christmas or Halloween
Liv: Christmas. That’s a special time of the year for us.
Would you consider each other an introvert and extrovert?
Liv: Dean is both. He’s an extrovert when he has to be, like when he’s lecturing or at a conference or even talking with his students. But he has a private, quiet side.
Dean: Liv is more comfortable being alone or with a small group of friends. She doesn’t like crowds or big parties with a lot of people. But she’ll also rise to the occasion and be very sociable if she has to be.
- What is the wildest thing you have done sexually?
Liv: The balcony.
Dean: The balcony. Though we both admit that Nina could very well come up with something else in a future book that we don’t yet know about…
- Give each other one adjective and one verb to describe each other?
Liv: Dean is extraordinary. And he protects.
Dean: Liv is beloved. And she radiates.
15.)Nina, is there anything you can share that we will see with Dean and Olivia in their new story?
Liv and Dean have an interesting and challenging path ahead of them! After the betrayals of AROUSE, they have to learn how to be a couple again and plan for the future. Liv has also recognized that she and Dean have both changed, but her newfound determination and independence clashes with Dean’s eternal need to shield her from harm.
16.) Nina, are we going to see Kelsey in her own story?
I would love to write Kelsey’s story. I think she deserves one. But I am going to wait and see how things progress with the first three Spiral of Bliss books before committing to telling more stories. However, I did consciously call it a “series” rather than a “trilogy” in order to leave room for the possibility of future books.
Nina, Dean, and Olivia – thank you for being here today. I know I have gained an insight into all of you that I really wanted to know.
Thanks for the opportunity, Susan, and the great questions!
Thanks for all of you stopping by today. Have a wonderful day, and I will chat with you tomorrow.
