Title: Torn from You (5 STAR)

Author: Nashoda Rose

tornfromyoucoverSynopsis:

Love is like an avalanche. It hits hard, fast and without mercy.

At least it did for me when Sculpt, the lead singer of the rock band Tear Asunder knocked me off my feet. Literally, because he’s also a fighter, illegally of course, and he taught me how to fight. He also taught me how to love and I fell hard for him. I mean the guy could do sweet, when he wasn’t doing bossy, and I like sweet.

Then it all shattered.

Kidnapped.

Starved.

Tied up like a piece of meat then whipped.

I was alone and fighting to survive.

When I heard Sculpt’s voice, I thought he was there to save me. I was wrong. Sculpt was there to break me.

*Warning: This book contains some disturbing situations, strong language and sexual content.

No cliffhanger and next in the Tear Asunder series is Ream’s story (the band’s lead guitarist).

Review:

When the synopsis for Torn from You talks about being shattered, it is definitely giving you the truth.  I was definitely shattered when reading Nashoda Rose’s story.

To understand the beginning of Sculpt and Emily’s story, I highly suggest you read With You.  You can still read Torn from You as a stand-alone, but With You shows you how Sculpt and Emily met.  It gives you an inside to the workings of each other, and there are some guys you see in the With You that will make sense when you read Torn From You.  There are purchase links listed below for With You.

There was an author that once said that the most beautiful stories sometimes are the hardest ones to tell.  I consider Emily and Sculpt story beautiful.  It is a story of a young woman who felt betrayal of the worst kind when she is kidnapped, tortured, and almost sold into slavery.  She believes the man she fell in love with is ultimately responsible for her demise.

Watching Emily rising from victim to survivor was inspirational.  She had every reason to be broken, but no matter what happened to her she never let obstacles beat her down.

Emily must fight the biggest fight of her life, and that is to live through being around men who are the epitome of evil.  Emily must figure out who she can trust, and who will destroy her.  Sculpt, is one that is on that list.

Sculpt is a closed off fighter and musician.  He hides from his past, until one day his past catches up to him.  Will he turn to evil, or will he risk everything for the woman who once loved him?

I can tell you that after reading Torn from You, it is a story that I will never forget.  Trust me when I saw that it is worth putting on your TBR list.

I do advise that the story deals with a horrific situation.  Readers be advised that due to subject matter, it is suggested for ages 18 or over.

brimAbout the Author:

Nashoda Rose lives in Toronto with her assortment of pets. She writes contemporary (NA) romance with a splash of darkness, or maybe it’s a tidal wave. Her novel “Torn from You” is the first in the Tear Asunder series. When she isn’t writing, she can be found sitting in a field reading with her dog at her side while her horses graze nearby. She loves interacting with her readers on Facebook and chatting about her addiction—books.

 Fun Facts:

  1. On Valentine’s Day when I was fourteen my dad was taking me out for dinner and instead drove up the driveway of a horse farm. There in the field was a big chestnut horse with a pink bow around his neck. It said, ‘To my daughter on Valentine’s Day Love Dad.’ I had my horse Sunny for twenty years.

  2. I was eating chicken wings one day and suddenly I stopped, put it down and never touched meat again for 19yrs.

  3. My mom used to give me what looked like the ‘bowl’ haircut when I was a kid. UGH.

  4. I cut off a police officer making a left hand turn when I was 16 years old. He wasn’t happy and gave me a reckless driving charge.

  5. Really rare…my horse Nash was born a twin out in my back field.

  6. I can make the best French Onion soup and grilled cheese, but that’s about it.

  7. I’ve had my hands inside my Newfie’s and Yorkie’s abdomens. Yep, I assisted in spaying them and did all their sutures.

  8. I’m terrified of flying. I mean completely petrified. I had to go to the hospital before one flight because I was so stressed out my jaw locked shut. I still fly as I never want it to stop me from enjoying life, but damn it sucks.

  9. I hand raised several baby raccoons over the years for my work. One of them never left. I named him Buddy and had him for seven years. He had a cat door in my window to leave whenever he wanted. He never did. Buddy slept in bed with me, loved to have a shower, opened the fridge and cleaned the cats. Also, he used a litter box. Buddy died of a kidney tumor ten years ago and I still miss him to this day (But I never want another one, LOL).

  10. I did my course for dog Massage Therapy.

  11. I went to boarding school for two years and loved it. I also worked there in the summers looking after the horses as it was also a camp.

  12. I’m not a shopper. Don’t like trying on clothes or shoes or looking for that perfect outfit. But I do love purses.

  13. I smashed my car into a hydro pole when I was in my late teens. The wires fell on my car and I was so scared I jumped out. A big big no no. The cop couldn’t figure out how I was still alive. When she looked down at my feet, she saw I was wearing rain boots. They saved my life.

  14. When I’m feeling down, I buy a fish. A live fish. Currently, I have three fish tanks at work and three at home.

  15. Writing about men with tattoos has made me want one, so I’ve finally decided on the perfect image to get on my side. A calligraphy style horse head.

  16. I have a scar on my left leg from a German Sheppard bite and another running the length of my right outer thigh from a coat hanger sticking out of a garbage bag.

  17. I love to try to fix everything myself. So, I was re-flooring my spare bedroom and ripping out the old carpeting when the X-Acto knife slipped and went straight into my upper thigh.

  18. Never been married. Just haven’t met the guy I want to spend the rest of my life with. Oh well, book boyfriends are hot. Bonus…I can make my own book boyfriends.

  19. I’d rather swallow a box of nails then do any kind of public speaking.

  20. I have a Red-footed Tortoise named ‘Bucket’.

Synopsis

Detective Mike Sterling walked away from his dream job telling himself it was to honor the promise he’d made his mother, while lying in a Chicago emergency room. A year later, he’s still fighting the demons that followed him back to his boyhood town.

Taryn Watts is an award-winning designer, going from project to project, living from a suitcase. Her plan for Renlend Kansas was the same as always. Go in, get the job done and get out, just the way she likes it. Growing up as a cop’s daughter, her every move was controlled. When she escaped to college she vowed to never fall in love with a cop –ever. Until she found herself sitting across from the ruggedly handsome stranger. Looking into Mike’s ice blue eyes they pulled her, called to her, but there was a haunting in them she knew too well.

Mike is drawn to Taryn, her passion for her work and her stunning beauty left him breathless, but what surprises him most is the peace he feels when he’s near her. Maybe it’s because Taryn is a temporary addition to his town and his secret is safe, or maybe it’s because she makes him feel safe. Mike knows he can’t keep up this charade and when Taryn moves to Renlend for an extended stay he can’t hide the truth any longer.

Can Taryn forget he’s a cop and give him her heart, or will his demons drive them apart?

 Review:

Amy Gregory rocks it in her novel, Mike’s Way Back.  It is a nice read, that you can spend cuddling up in a warm blanket, and read in a few hours.  In fact, I read it with a smile on my face throughout the whole book.

The book begins where Taryn is visiting a small town for a design project she is completing.  She happens into a bar, where Mike, a local officer, offers to save her seat while Taryn runs to the ladies room.  Mike is captivated by her.  She is different than no one else he has ever meet.  Taryn as well is captivated with Mike, until she finds out his profession.

Taryn has had bad experience with officers.  Can Mike turn her opinions around?  Will Taryn’s experience actually be an asset to Mike?

I loved how the story took something that was a negative with someone, and turned it around to be a positive for someone else that was worth helping.

I am looking forward to reading more in the Finding Perfect Series.

author pic colorAbout the Author

When asked ‘when do you have time to write’, Amy Gregory simply laughs.  The real answer is, “in bits and pieces”.  She and her husband live in Kansas City with their three fantastic kids that keep them running in three very different directions.  Because she sits so much, she always carries a notebook with her at all times.

She has an off the wall, snarky, off the cuff sense of humor that often shocks even those who’ve known her for years.  And she loves that her children have all been blessed that ability to make others laugh as well.  At least she’s grateful most of the time!  Her husband often teases her about how she “makes this stuff up” when he’s reading a piece of her work. … The answer—“it just comes to me when I’m typing”. Scary thought, huh!

She didn’t kill her target, HiT 149.

HiT 149 better known as Ben Pearson did something he had never done before.

He fell in love with Anna Brookes.

In Hit for Freedom, the sequel to HiT 149, a nemesis so powerful, terrifying and frightening is threatening the safety of Anna’s love, Ben and his hometown, St Cloud.
15 must deal with a force that may be too dangerous even for her skilled ways. With limited information on her new HiT, she willingly infiltrates his trust to acquire the knowledge she needs to implode the operations of the deadly man.

“What you saw earlier must be playing around in your head. But you didn’t scream or freak out which tells me you are either very strong or very broken. Review:

HiT for Freedom is a continuation of Ben and Anna’s story.  You need to have read HiT 149 prior to reading HiT for Freedom.  Also, to fully understand Anna, I would highly suggest you read Anna Brookes – In Training.  I will have links to Amazon for these books down below.

For a little recap, in HiT 149 Anna, whom at an early age becomes an assassin, meets Ben after a hit.  After one-night rendezvous with Ben, she finds he is to be her hit #149.   Ben has become a complication.  Anna, the hunter, now becomes the hunted.

In Anna Brookes – In Training, the reader gets to see the how Anna ended up in training as an assassin.  The story provides you detail in what made Anna the person she is now.  It showcases her many talents that became useful in becoming the world’s best assassin.

In HiT for Freedom, Anna is back to try to save Ben’s life.  There is also some evidence that Ben may have some secrets of his own.  Will the secrets save Anna, or will they destroy what Anna and Ben once shared?  Anna has been taught the love is an unnecessary emotion.  Will love be what breaks her?

Let me tell you that the HiT series is addicting.  I read the series in one day.  I just couldn’t stop reading.  It is mind-bending on what path the story takes you on.  At the end of HiT for Freedom, I was in shock.  I am now desperate for the next book in the series.

I will keep you informed with what is happening in the third installment of HiT.

About the Author

I love to read. I’m a huge fan of books and when I start reading anything, I usually forgo doing everything else, I mean the housework will still be there in the morning (right?). When I love a story or book that I’ve downloaded, I usually refrain from sleep and am crabby the next day – but only until I pick my iPad up and start reading again!
I was recently described by a reviewer as my writing style is Chick-Lit with an Edge. I liked that so much that that’s the way I describe the genre I write.
My goal when writing is just to take people away from whatever is going on in their lives, even if it’s only for a split second.
I’m a go with the flow sort of person and don’t really take a course of action to get where I am going. I live in the moment and don’t usually worry about tomorrow because whatever life is due to bring me, I’ll be happy to accept.
I love my family and friends and will help anyway I can if someone needs it. Every Friday I spend it with my girlfriends where we have ‘cake day’, which usually consists of a yummy yet nutritious lunch, quickly destroyed by a delicious and devilishly good cake and a caramel latte.
I really don’t like people that are nasty just because they can be, I don’t believe that’s necessary, I mean life is hard enough as it is!
Three things you need to know about me; 1 – I’m fiercely loyal and will bend over backwards to help. 2 – I love chocolate, like A LOT and 3 – I have a huge crush on David Gandy at the moment! (I mean, who hasn’t, have you seen the man????)

 Review:

Deadly Deceit was a thrilling mystery that kept me riveted from the beginning of the story until the end.  Kate Daniel’s is back in action when a fire and a multiple-vehicle fatality accident occurs on her time.  The Mari Hannah’s detail was just explicit enough to create an image of what was occurring during the story.  She allows you to step into the lives of all involved in the plot line.

As the story kept getting more mysterious I was reading so intensely that I noticed I was biting my nails.  I kept wanting to know what was going to happen next.  I enjoyed seeing how Kate Daniel’s mind worked.  Seeing how things would click in her head was like watching (or in this case reading)a genius at work.  Kate valued justice for the victim, and that was a huge gain in her favor.

Readers, if you love a great mystery, and need a quiet night reading, than I highly suggest Deadly Deceit.

HOLLYWOOD – JULY 9, 2009

The Dracul was one of Hollywood’s hot spots, a place for the beautiful people to see and be seen. On any given night, Hollywood stars could be seen mingling among the crowd or holding court in one of the private rooms that dotted the periphery. The club’s owner, Morgan Blackstone, stalked through the center of the packed dance floor, rage rolling off her in frozen waves. She paid no attention to the loud music thundering through the converted church, or the mob parting to let her pass. James, the head of security, walked at her side, and it didn’t take them long to reach one of several doors that led to the employee–only sections. She entered a code on the small panel beside the door and pushed it open.  James followed her into the maze of halls, letting the door thump closed behind them.

“What happened?” she asked, her words clipped and precise.

“Apparently the two we are about to see, decided it was okay to harass a regular about his job.” James answered, being cryptic, since it was possible that a human staff member might hear.

“Was it one of the VIPs?”

“Yes. Christophe is taking care of him,” he answered, all cool professionalism.

Morgan nodded. She trusted her Blood Son to see to it that the situation was defused.

“The other two are in the security office,” James continued. “A couple of my people are making sure that no one goes in. Danny and the rest of the team are out on the floor making sure that nothing else happens.” He finished as they stopped in front of a door marked ‘Security.’

“Good,” she answered. She stepped into the room, feeling the emotions of the two men inside permeating the air. “Idiots,” she muttered under her breath and crossed to the table where the pair sat on opposite sides. The door closed, and James leaned against it, arms crossed over his chest.

The vampire was dressed in unrelieved black. His hair fell in long lanky shanks, and he looked as though he’d forgotten to feed for the past few days. His flesh was pale and drawn tight over his bones. The werewolf was just as bad, in a flannel shirt with the sleeves ripped off, and tattered jeans.

“Goddess! Could you two be any more cliché?” Morgan rolled her eyes and set her cane on the end of the table. “Do either of you have any idea of the trouble you caused?”

“That poser started it,” the vampire insisted in a high pitched whine that sent a spike of pain through Morgan’s skull.

“That poser, as you call him, happens to be a regular, but that’s beside the point.” Morgan reached down and slipped the blade free of its cane sheath. “Do either of you morons have any clue how many hoops I had to jump through to get this establishment cleared by the Council?”

“An insane amount of paperwork, not to mention upholding a strict set of rules at all times,” James answered from where he leaned on the door, sounding bored.

“There are advantages to slogging through all the red tape though,” Morgan continued. “It does afford the owner some…” she paused and examined the edge of her blade, “…latitude when it comes to dealing with rule breakers.”

“I really didn’t expect to be dealing with corpses tonight.” James sighed, looking down at the faded jeans and white t–shirt he wore.

20 things you didn’t know about Michelle Rabe

  1. I am an introvert. I admit it I like to spend time alone. I’ve even been known to go to movies by myself. Given the choice between spending an evening curled up with a good book or going out, you can usually find me with the book.

  2. I write with particular movies in the background. Some people like mood music, I like mood movies. I’ve got a few in my collection that I watch a lot including, Interview with the Vampire, Sleepy Hollow, Sweeny Todd, The Lost Boys and The Avengers. I’ve also been known to work with The West Wing, Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Firefly episodes playing. I’m not sure why but sometimes I prefer spoken word to music as I work.

  3. I loves living in Santa Cruz. There are a lot of artists in the area and we have the best of most worlds all within about a 30 minute drive. I happen to live in the mountains but in twenty minutes I can be at the Beach Boardwalk. In five minutes I can be walking among California Redwoods. In about fifteen minutes I can be in the city of Santa Cruz with its funky shops and excellent atmosphere. It’s a great place to live and work, especially for artists.

  4. I have worked for the elections department in Santa Cruz County. It was a job that taught me more about the elections process than I ever wanted to learn. I got to meet some wonderful people too.

  5. I really do hate talking or writing about myself. I prefer to let my characters and fiction do the talking for me.

  6. I have read all the Twilight books though I don’t believe vampires should sparkle and that’s all I’ll say about that.

  7. I go through moods when I don’t read at all. I go through phases with my reading. There are times when I can’t get new books fast enough, I plow through them and move on to the next. Then there are times when finishing even a page of reading is akin to pulling teeth.

  8. I can be very punny though most are inadvertent. I admit I have a strange sense of humor and I have been known to make bad puns. I also have to admit that a lot of them aren’t planned they just come about in normal conversation.

  9. I have eclectic taste in music. Yep it’s true, I listen to a lot of different kinds of music from classical to heavy metal. The only kinds of music that I don’t really like are rap and speed metal. I like melodies and to be able to understand the lyrics.

  10. I have been to 3 Bon Jovi concerts and would love to go to more. One at the Forum in LA with a friend who came down to visit from Oregon for the show. The second at the forum again with a different friend. The last and most recent was at the SAP Center in San Jose with another writer.

  11. My favorite foods are pizza and chocolate.

  12. I don’t like coffee, I know it’s practically sacrilegious for an author to say that, but it’s true.

  13. My writing group meets every week at a local IHOP, they know us well.

  14. I am a cat person and have a self-imposed 2 cat limit. I recently had to put Isis my 16 year old Siamese mix to sleep. I do have another cat Phury is 4 years old and I call him ‘The Unhelpful Author Cat’ because he loves to stop me from writing. He’s also named after a character in JR Ward’s Back Dagger Brotherhood series.

  15. The main antagonist of Cast in Blood was once a good guy. This was one of those revelations that I love about being a writer. My main antagonist up till that point was an unknown to me.

  16. Cast in Blood was once rewritten in first person. It was not a pretty sight. Taught me to remain true to the story that you’re telling. I’d done the rewrite because first person is popular and I thought it might help the book sell. What it did was put constraints on the story and make it weaker.

  17. There was a draft where Charles was a bad guy who had a change of heart. He was never really bad, just led astray. As drafts progressed I realized that it wasn’t working.

  18. Eric initially had a very small part. He was supposed to be in one scene but my writing teacher gave us an exercise in class and his part began growing. He’s now one of my favorite characters to write for a lot of reasons.

  19. In Cast in Blood Morgan is named for a Celtic Goddess of battle, strife, and sovereignty.

  20. Cast in Blood’s Lucian got a name change about half way through the process.

(New Adult romance)

Excerpt:

Drew put his hat on and pulled it down just enough to where I could still see his eyes. He finally answered, and it wasn’t what I expected at all. “You’re the first girl I’ve ever seen surfing around here. I mean really surfing, not just messing around. That interested me. That’s why I talked to you those times. Because you were different. Like me. You’re a risk-taker, but something’s holding you back. Something happened to you. That’s why you’re here. That’s why you mostly keep to yourself. That’s why you have those walls up.”

I felt my eyes narrowing in anger. I didn’t like this at all. Everything he was saying was true. And it pissed me off. I slid off the seat and stood. “I have to go.”

I started walking toward the door and I had just picked up my surfboard when he said, “Leah, wait. I’m sorry.”

I turned around.

He got up and moved toward me. “It’s raining like crazy, it’s still windy. At least let me drive you home.

I looked out the window and saw that it was still quite blustery. Walking home with this surfboard wouldn’t have been much fun. And it was only a short distance, which meant I wouldn’t have to put up with him for long. I pushed the door open and started to walk out. “Okay. But stop psychoanalyzing me.”

He held the door open for me. “Done.”
