Review:

Pros & Cons has quite a unique story line.  It is not just a romance.  It is a romance with suspense,  sacrificing love, and full of depth.  Pros & Cons raises the question of two con artists could ever leave a life of running from the law?  Can adrenaline junkies have a normal type of life?  Sydney Logan gives reader’s a message that sometimes it take seeing what our life’s priorities are and then just going for it.

Meet Jenna and Ethan.  Both are competing con artists.  At times both work together to save one another if trouble arises.  They are known as the worlds largest criminal minds.  Their partners, Abby and Cooper, are starting to talk about retiring.  Abby and Cooper are lovebirds and want a life without crime.  They want to settle down.

Then a horrific tragedy occurs and Jenna and Ethan must decide if they will join forces to keep safe and fight for retribution.  When I read about what happened, I gasped and had a sickened feeling that nothing will ever be the same again.  I wanted to scream at the really bad guys to get their justice.  With Jenna and Ethan fighting forces that is trying to separate them, will their priorities change forever?

I enjoyed the main characters of the story.  They were developed so well that they complemented each other perfectly.  Neither one outshined each other.  They just clicked.  It was also fascinating to see the struggles that the families held knowing their child was a criminal and had to keep on the run.  For Jenna it was worse because her father was in law enforcement.  Sydney Logan was able to create such a twist to see how the family factored with Jenna and Ethan’s decisions.  It was awe-inspiring to see both Jenna and Ethan see the clues that their actions were effecting the ones that loved them.  For once they were allowing others to be included in the decisions they made.  What a huge turnaround from the beginning of the story.

I also loved how action packed the story it.  It starts out with a bang from page one and continues until the very end.  So many times I was biting my nails.  Warning, wait to get a manicure until after reading Pros & Cons.  It is that intense.

I would say that Pros & Cons is worth of repeat reading.  I am so excited to see what is on the horizon for Sydney Logan.

Happy Saturday!!!

Excerpt:

As I slip quietly out of the suite and rush toward the elevator, I can’t deny I’m feeling a little better about Vegas.

That is, until the elevator doors open.

Standing there, leaning against the stainless steel wall with a cocky smile on his face, is the one person I really didn’t want to see this weekend.

With a miserable groan, I step inside the elevator and furiously stab the button.

“Are you following me, Summers?”

“I’d follow your dimples anywhere, York.”

Ethan Summers is infuriatingly charming and handsome. Both assets have proven to be beneficial to his career and detrimental to mine.

“Well, these dimples just lifted Bradley Jones’ credit card numbers.”

“Impressive. Although, one might argue that a more superior con artist would be capable of accomplishing such a feat without showing a little skin. Really, Jenna, I’m disappointed.”

He rarely calls me by my first name. Last names have always been our thing.

“Were you watching me?”

“Every heterosexual man in the casino was watching your little performance. Nice legs, by the way.”

Crap.

“Not good,” I mutter.

“No, but I enjoyed it.”

Ethan grins as the elevator doors open. I don’t protest when he grabs me by the elbow and leads me toward the nearest exit. It’s not brightly lit, but there’s a very nice bouncer that Ethan greets by name who allows us to walk right out the door and into the starry Nevada night. He doesn’t let go of my arm as we hurry toward a black SUV.

“Why are you helping me?”

“You drugged a millionaire and stole his credit card info. I think it’s best we get you out of town.”

That doesn’t really answer my question, but I can’t argue with his logic.

Ethan opens the passenger door and helps me inside.

“Nice stilettos.”

I glare at him, and he shoots me a sexy smile before slamming my door.

It’s really too bad that I hate his guts.

Ethan Summers and I have crossed paths many times throughout the past couple years. It’s unavoidable, considering we’re two of the finest criminal minds in the world.

That’s what the news says, anyway.

“Let me guess,” Ethan says as he pulls the SUV out onto the highway. “You used Rohypnol on Jones?”

I roll my eyes. “I’m a thief, not a sexual predator.”

“Well, you obviously slipped something into his drink.”

“Sleeping pill.”

Ethan hums his disapproval. I can’t argue with him. Slipping Bradley a sedative is so amateur.

“I was desperate. The entire weekend has been a complete waste of time. When did the Viper install dome cams?”

“A few weeks ago. The casino’s hosting the U.S. Poker Championship next month. Ceiling cams are a requirement.”

“Super.”

“I know.”

“So, if you knew about the cameras, what were you doing at the casino?”

“Let’s just say a little birdie told me you were hitting the Viper tonight. I had a feeling you might need my assistance.”

“So you’ve been talking to Abby.”

He remains silent and keeps his eyes trained on the freeway, giving me the chance to study his profile. Ethan has a mop of unruly dark hair and deep blue eyes that make most girls go weak in the knees.

Not this girl. Nope.

“Like what you see?”

My face heats. I hate when he catches me ogling him.

“You’re an ass.”

He laughs. “Someday, Jenna, you’re going to stop fighting this attraction between us. I’m really looking forward to that.”

Review:

In reading Ember, KT Fisher provides a message of overcoming challenges no matter how hard they hard.  It is a story of regaining trust and faith and allowing forgiveness and second chances.  In Ember Roxie is out of rehab and has an uphill battle before she can fully live free.  She is dealing with guilt from what happened between her and Mason, as well as having feelings for her best friend.  Mason has walked away from Roxie and has turned to women again.  Roxie believes that this is it for them.

In a midst this growing storm Roxie is holding a secret that she doesn’t want let out.  Joe is on the loose, and Roxie feels that she can never escape his grasp.  Joe is the type of man that makes the ends of your hair raise.  He is one scary and demented dude.  Definitely, not a man you want to walk alone with on a dark alley way.  The danger Joe presents could change Roxie’s future.

Roxie was a character that even if she screwed up I still liked her.  She had been lost so long and living the life of a rocker was hard for anyone.  Being confused about her feelings just brought in more angst in her emotions.  How can you love two people?  I also loved Roxie’s family.  Her parents were a huge support in getting Roxie to rehab.  Besides her best friends, the parents were the top supporters.  They were her cheerleaders.

While reading Ember, there is an element of suspense.  The question remained whether Roxie was going to be okay with Joe on the loose?  How much security will it take to protect Roxie and her friends?  It will be a thrilling joy ride for you to read to find out these answers.

I am looking forward to the next story in the series.  There is also a break off series coming off soon.  Keep tuned in we will try to inform you of upcoming dates to releases.

Happy Reading!!!

EXCERPT

I see Mason is standing inside, surrounded by the guys, but what I’m not prepared for is the half-naked woman standing at the top of the stairs when I walk inside. “So I see it’s true.” I cross my arms over my chest. “Rox, this isn’t what it seems,” Mason starts, but I give him a look. “Really, Mason?” He doesn’t say anything else, and that tells me everything. I try to calm myself down, because this is hard for me to see. Fresh out of rehab, and I’m already forced to see this shit. I was counselled to accept responsibility for my own downfall, so I try my best to calm my rage. “I don’t see why you had to bring her out of all people, Mason,” Crystal scolds. “This has nothing to do with you!” The girl, Natasha, shouts down to her. “Bitch, this has everything to do with me! You’re messing with my family!” Crystal shouts back. “Chris…” Booker warns, and I don’t miss the odd look Tate gives him. I look up at Natasha, and it hurts to see how skinny she looks. I have curves, a big bust, and here’s wannabe Barbie looking down at me like she’s the shit! That just pisses me off! I’ve gone through so much bullshit lately, and I’ve worked so damn hard I don’t need Natasha looking down at me. But still, I need to reign in my anger; this all comes down to me. If I hadn’t slept with Joe, I doubt my depression would have spiralled like it did. Maybe we wouldn’t be here right now, maybe I would be at the top of those stairs looking satisfied with myself. For me to start screaming and shouting right now is something I don’t want to do. Nor should I. “You need to get your skinny ass out of here, so go jump in your little Barbie car and fuck off!” I direct up at her, and I hear laughter behind me. “Rox,” Mason warns me and I turn to glare at him. “Don’t even fucking talk to me right now! You gave me shit yesterday for what I did, and I pay for that every-fucking-day, yet here you are, sleeping with sluts like it’s no big fucking deal!” I take a step closer to Mason. “I know we’re not together anymore, but seeing this so quickly after talking to you yesterday is fucked up. I thought we could maybe sort through this, because there’re still things we need to talk about, but I guess there’s no point now.” “Come on, guys,” Tate says, ushering everyone out. I stop them, “No, stay. I’m going now anyway.”

Review:

Stephanie Laurens is one of my ultimate favorite writers.  Stephanie has a talent for writing about powerful characters but yet finding a way for the reader to enjoy and love them as if they knew the characters on a personal level.  I have had the pleasure of reading and reviewing other novels from Stephanie and I jumped at the chance to review The Tempting of Thomas Carrick.

Thomas is the strong-willed man that lives on ideals.  In his mind he has a ideal job, a ideal wife in which to marry, and a ideal life in which to live.  He bases all of his goals and achievements upon these ideals.  He will not stray outside these goals and achievements.

The one person Thomas doesn’t really account for is Lucilla Cynster.  For years he has pushed her from his mind.  Lucilla does not factor into his goals or achievements.  No matter her wisdom and beauty she just isn’t what he considers proper marriage material.  And boy is Thomas cruel to Lucilla about that.  What happens when Thomas calls upon Lucilla to help out with family matters?

Lucilla knows that Thomas is the one for her.  I enjoyed watching her stubborn streak just placate Thomas as he stumbles along telling Lucilla she is not the one for him.  It is almost like he is a young child and she is just patting his head being patient.  Lucilla is fascinating to read about.  How she processes events is unlike any character I have read before.  She is intelligent, yet doesn’t flaunt it in front of others.  Lucilla carries charisma that allows her to help others and heal them.  Reading about Lucilla study people is similar to watching a flower come to bloom.  You can just envision when a scenario clicks in her head showing that she has just found an answer to a question.

There is much mystery to The Tempting of Thomas Carrick.  I felt like a sleuth during much of the story.  I also loved that the story had a casting list in the beginning, of which I referred to often.  I can’t wait for the next story to come about.

I highly suggest this series.  There are so many levels of which to fall in love with both the story line and characters.  I hope you come to love Thomas and Lucilla just as much as I did.

Happy Friday!!!

Excerpt

He knew they had to stop, to cease and desist before he lost all hope of ever stepping back from her. Of ever letting her go.

But her hand remained on his cheek, her touch scalding in a way that had nothing to do with heat, effortlessly holding him captive. Holding his senses, snaring them in a net of want from which he couldn’t break free.

His senses and his mind were literally reeling.

She seemed to know, to realize.

But instead of comprehending the danger, pulling back, and letting him go, she reached—with her lips, with her body, with the gentle pressure of her hand on his cheek.

A sudden clattering clang of hooves on cobbles snapped them both free; on a mutual gasp, both pulled back from the kiss.

The sharp clatter was followed by shouts and calls.

For one instant, they remained locked together, gazing into each other’s eyes. Both of them were breathing rapidly. His pulse thudded in his ears.

Then the calls rising from below hauled them both fully back to the here and now.

They stepped apart. Side by side, they moved to the window.

That end of the disused wing overlooked the stable yard. On the cobbles below, they saw Nigel and Nolan, still mounted, their horses dancing, infected by the brothers’ transparently ebullient spirits.

Nigel had called for the stablemen—that had been the summons Thomas and Lucilla had heard—but Sean, Mitch, and Fred were taking their time.

Thomas watched as the stablemen slowly ambled across the yard and—it seemed grudgingly—held Nigel’s and Nolan’s horses. Apparently oblivious to the almost sullen disapprobation radiating from their clansmen, the brothers continued exchanging comments with each other as they dismounted, then haphazardly flung their reins toward the stablemen and started toward the house.

There were no greetings exchanged between the stablemen and the young masters of the house. As far as Thomas could see, there hadn’t even been any true acknowledgment of each other—a remarkable contrast to when he’d ridden in.

Frowning, he stepped back from the window. Less than a second’s thought sufficed to suggest that making his presence known to Nigel sooner rather than later would serve everyone, Manachan especially, best.

He looked at Lucilla. She was still gazing down at the stable yard, at the stablemen leading the horses away. Even though he couldn’t see her eyes, from her pensive, assessing expression it was clear that she’d detected the strain between the two groups of men and, like him, found it curious.

“I should go and break the news to Nigel.” He took another step back. When she turned to look at him, he pointed over his shoulder at the door just along the corridor. “That’s the door to the gallery in the main wing.” Briefly, he met her gaze. “I’ll see you later.”

He didn’t wait to see if she would reply; he turned on his heel, strode to the door, and escaped.

Lucilla watched him go. He left the door ajar; whether he’d meant to or not, it was a clear invitation to follow. Which she fully intended to do.

The kiss…had been everything she’d wanted. Even more than she’d dreamed of. But now Nigel and Nolan had arrived, such personal matters had to be set aside—for the moment. Until later.

Somewhat to his surprise, she made no demur at his taking control; instead, she walked beside him, courtesy of the narrowness of the corridor rather close, her velvet riding skirt brushing the material of his trousers. Once he was sure she was, indeed, consenting to leave the scene, he eased his grip, then released her altogether.

He would have increased the distance between them, but there was no space.

Lucilla found herself dealing with a rather odd fracturing of her awareness. On one level, she was increasingly exercised over the matter of the Burns sisters’ deaths, and very conscious of the tug of duty on that score, yet simultaneously her sensual awareness was reveling in Thomas’s nearness. In his touch, however brief.

The toe of her riding boot hit something, and she stumbled. “Oh!” She pitched forward—

Thomas caught her and hauled her upright. Hauled her to him.

She ended in his arms. Locked against him, her palms flat against his chest.

The first thing she registered was the heat of him, the warmth that seeped through the layers of fabric and sank into her.

Into her flesh, feeding her senses.

They came alive on a giddy rush of anticipation.

She raised her gaze to his eyes. In the same instant registered the sudden tension that had gripped him, that had turned taut, resilient muscle into granite and steel. The arms that held her so securely felt less malleable than iron.

But it was his eyes that most gave him away; the gold-flecked amber burned.

She didn’t stop to think. To question.

To give him time to snap his shields back into place.

The Lady might help and create the chance, but it was up to her to seize it.

Stretching up on her toes, she barely paused to whisper “Thank you” before she pressed her lips to his.

For one instant, her confidence wavered. What if he didn’t respond?

Then she sensed it—a sharp hitch in his breathing, a leaping, uncontrollable, barely reined impulse to seize.

She’d felt that reaction in herself—she recognized it in him.

All doubt evaporated. All caution fell.

She pressed her kiss on him, sure, certain.

Stepping boldly into him, she slid her hands up his chest and over his shoulders, savoring the heat and the strength beneath her palms, then she reached further, to his nape, and slid her fingers into the thick, heavy locks of his hair.

The feathery touch caught her, steadied her.

All her senses alive, she turned her mind from conquest to persuasion.

Drawing one hand from the silk of his hair, she placed her palm against one lean cheek and gave herself over to the communion of the kiss.

Thomas was lost, his anchor gone, swept away by a tide of ferocious yearning. His, but equally hers. Her longing had poured into him, inciting a response he had no hope of reining back. Of taming. Of restraining.

He wanted her; he always had.

But the part of him that wanted her—still, regardless—was the part of him he normally kept leashed, controlled. Hidden.

It hadn’t been her kiss, the sharp and shocking pressure of her lips against his, that had shattered the chains, that had broken the lock and flung wide the doors of his inner prison.

It hadn’t been the searing heat of her touch as she’d slid her hands up his chest and over his shoulders, an evocative, provocative come-hither act that yet had felt curiously innocent.

Even her fingers tangling in his hair—he was more than experienced enough to set all such temptations aside.

But the feel of her palm, her fingers, lightly riding against his cheek…

It was as if by that touch she’d tamed him. Slayed all resistance and claimed the man he truly was.

He’d always known she was dangerous. That she and she alone could rule him.

He hadn’t wanted that. He still didn’t want that. Yet…

Her lips tasted of a heady blend of rose and nectar. He couldn’t resist the temptation to sip.

Just a little. A bit.

When I read Bolt From The Blue not only did I love the sexy guitarist, I also loved the journey that was taken in the name of love.   Nikki and Trixie must overcome hurdles in order to ever achieve a HEA.  The past just may be the thing that divides this duo and causes a forever separation.  Find out if Nikki will become Trixie’s knight in rock star armor.

The Oblivion On Tour series is a set of books each about a specific group member.  Heaven Sent is about Ash and Eve’s story.  I am now reading that story, and I am glad that I went back and obtained a copy of it.  I am finding that each rocker has such a passionate story to be told.  Nikki’s story is just as great.  When he wasn’t looking he seemed to find love in the most unique of all places.  Trixie was the girl to teach him what he needed to learn most.

Now, for those that love mystery mixed in with romance you will get a taste of that as well.  During some of the scenes I could feel the hairs rise as I could sense impending disaster.  The author creates such a descriptive backdrop of what is happening that it was easy to fall fully engaged into the story.   Let’s just say that the story started my imagination going.  I had a few laughs during some of Trixie’s scenes when I began to imagine noises happening outside my window.  I was reading the pages faster than my fingers could move on my Kindle to see what was going to happen with Nikki and Trixie.  So for the thrilling moments I did happen to forget what was happening.  Well, besides having my imagination run a mile a minute.

I do recommend this series for lovers of romance and rock ‘n roll,

Happy Friday!!!

#MeettheAuthor

authorpic.fwThe first thing you need to know about me is that I genuinely believe in true love and soul mates. I met my wonderful husband when we were still at school. I was sixteen, he was seventeen, we are high school sweethearts. Now more than twenty five years later, we are still very much in love and are happily married with two beautiful children. We live in picturesque New Zealand and I consider ourselves lucky to live in this magnificent part of the world.

I do have a full time job, but in my spare minutes I enjoy spending time with my family, cooking and reading. I’m an avid reader and tend to chomp through a large volume of books, mainly in the romance genre. And of course my other major ‘hobby’ is writing steamy rock star erotic romances!

I started writing in early 2014. After spending many years writing business documentation, and constantly being inspired by numerous romance novels, I decided to try my hand at fictional writing. After penning my first scene I discovered that I enjoyed it immensely and so resolved to continue with the rest of the story that was swirling in my imagination. That story resulted in my first novel, Heaven Sent.

My Oblivion on Tour Series follows the five band members of the hard rock group Oblivion. Each book in the series follows a different band member and their quest for love.

Book 1 – Heaven Sent – Ash and Eve’s story

Book 2 – Bolt From The Blue – Nikki and Trixie’s story

Books 3, 4 & 5 will each tell Cody, Scott and Hansen’s stories.

Backstage Jealousy

After about half an hour the excitement has started to quieten down and it’s just a noisy party atmosphere. Eve has deserted me and now has Ash wrapped around her. I notice that Ash is pretty adept at shaking off the attention from flirty groupies. His attention is solely on Eve, it’s quite sweet actually. Nikki on the other hand is thriving on all the attention. Admittedly he’s not partaking in anything intimate, but he’s definitely flirting and enjoying the interest he’s getting from numerous scantily clad girls.

I’m not jealous, I’m not jealous, I’m not jealous. I chant that mantra numerous times in my head, but I’m not doing a very good job of convincing myself. I feel a knot in my stomach and I really could do with another drink to calm my frayed nerves. I try to look anywhere but at Nikki, but I just can’t help myself, I’m driving myself crazy watching him flirt and cavort!

Fuck this, I need a distraction. I glance around the room and my eyes meet with a sexy looking rocker that I don’t recognize. He raises his eyebrows at me and nods his head indicating for me to go over to him. I put on my sexy smile and saunter over. If Nikki’s allowed to flirt, then I am too! As I get closer to him he takes a few steps towards me and quickly secures his hands around my waist as he rumbles, “Well hello there beautiful, my name’s Matt, what’s yours?”

“My name’s Trixie.” I purr coyly.

“Mmmm” he hums. His eyes slowly rake over me suggestively. This guy’s a bit full on, but at least it’s distracting me from whatever it is that Nikki’s doing. We flirt playfully for a couple of minutes until I suddenly feel strong hands secure around my waist from behind and I get spun around to face a very ticked off looking Nikki. “This one’s mine!” he growls angrily.

Nikki snarls at poor Matt who’s looking slightly panicked as he pleads, “Shit sorry Nikki, I didn’t know she was with you.” Nikki suddenly picks me up and throws me over his shoulder as he barks, “Well she is, so stay the fuck away from her Matt.”

Nikki stomps across the room with me slung over his shoulder while I giggle profusely. He opens a side door, steps inside and slams it shut behind us, locking it securely. We’re in a small bathroom. He lowers me down to the ground, his eyes burn into mine. I’m laughing so much at his ridiculous caveman routine that I can barely remain standing. It’s only after a little while that I realize he’s completely serious as he snarls, “What the fuck were you doing Trixie?”

“What do you mean, what was I doing?” I chuckle playfully.

“Why the hell were you all over Matt?”

He must be kidding. What a hypocrite! “We were just talking! Besides I wasn’t doing anything you weren’t doing!”

“What the hell. It’s my job.”

“Bullshit. It’s not your job. Ash manages to cope without cavorting with every groupie that throws themselves at him.”

“Ash’s god-damned pussy whipped!” he exclaims as if that’s a genuinely logical answer. “Besides, I don’t see Eve falling all over guys from other bands.”

I put my hands on my hips and poke out my tongue. I stomp my foot insolently. “If you can, I can!” I shriek childishly.

Nikki starts to chuckle which quickly turns into a rolling laugh.

It’s now him that’s laughing, and me being serious. I get the distinct feeling that he’s laughing at me not with me. I straighten my face, “What’s so fucking funny?”

He has a massive smug grin on his face. “You get jealous as shit don’t you Trix?”

I sulk and pout my lips. I don’t want to be ‘that girl’. I don’t want to be the girl that gets jealous when her man even talks to other girls. Jesus, he’s not even ‘my man’. I try to explain myself, “Yeah, no, well…”

Nikki starts laughing again.

“Shut up!” I huff.

After a few more smug chuckles Nikki grabs me around the waist. “You know, when I saw you flirting with Matt, I felt so fucking angry. I was so jealous I thought I’d turn green. I had to try really hard to control myself. I almost went over there and smashed the shit out of him for even looking at you. Then when I saw his hands on your sexy body and you giggling and flirting with him, shit Trix…I swear, I almost lost it.”

I look at him seriously as I simply state, “I didn’t think it would bother you if I flirted, you seemed rather preoccupied.”

“God, how can it not bother me? You’re the hottest girl here and I’m not the only one that can’t take my eyes off you.” His body crushes into mine as he pushes me up against the door. He stares forcefully into my eyes, “We had a deal Trix, when we’re in the same town, there’s no fucking around. Look, I know I probably shouldn’t have let those groupies touch and flirt with me. But in my defense, it’s like breakin’ a fucking lifetime habit. I didn’t even think. I promise I wasn’t going to do any more than talk to them. I’ll do my best from now on. When you’re around, you’re the only girl I want touchin’ me and telling me about all the dirty things you plan to do to me.”

“Holy crap Nikki, do they really tell you all the dirty things they want to do to you?”

Nikki just shrugs his shoulders with a big grin on his face as if it’s the most ordinary thing in the world. “Anyway, you’re the only one I want to do dirty things to me. So hows about it?”

I raise my eyebrows, “Hows about what?” I repeat, batting my eyelids at him.

“Hows about we get dirty…here in this bathroom.”

Before I get a chance to answer, his mouth crashes into mine and his hands grasp my ass as he pushes me harder against the locked door. He picks me up and we spin around as he positions me on top of the vanity. His hands are everywhere and they move so quickly my top and bra are removed and discarded in less than a few seconds. His fingers are deftly unzipping my jeans and they’re being tugged down my legs along with my panties as he groans, “There that’s better, I like you naked.”

A bit.

THE TEMPTING OF THOMAS CARRICK INTERVIEW:

Thomas and Lucilla are both especially strong and stubborn characters, as so many of your heroes and heroines are. Is there a particular reason for this a) in general, and b) in this particular case?

In the general sense, I’ve always used strong characters because the scale and intensity of emotional clashes between such characters is more powerful, has the potential to be more wide-ranging, and is also likely to strike brighter sparks. A strong character doesn’t give way when someone opposes them or gets in the way of their will and drive—they immediately push back, and that refusal to back away is one of the key elements that leads such a pair of characters deeper and deeper into Cupid’s snare as they are forced to adjust and adapt to each other–a critical element of establishing an emotional partnership.

There’s a general assumption that strong and confident characters will have an easier time dealing with love, however, in reality I think it’s the opposite, and such characters find the existence of an emotion strong enough to make them change difficult to accept.

Which brings me rather neatly to Thomas and Lucilla. He is the ultimate strong character with a very powerful, emotional, and deeply personal reason to shut himself off from love. Against that, Lucilla, an equally strong character, is unswervingly convinced that they are fated to love and marry—but she, too, has a few lessons to learn in what love—even a fated love—will demand.

In short, my motivation for using strong characters can be summed up as: the stronger they are, the more they resist and, ultimately, the harder they fall.

Readers first met Thomas Carrick in the Cynster holiday special By Winter’s Light. Did his earlier meeting with Lucilla described in that book affect the pair’s actions in this book?

That earlier meeting in By Winter’s Light sets the stage for Thomas and Lucilla’s romance. Both of them leave that first encounter with the knowledge that the other could be their future spouse. Lucilla is ready to accept that Thomas is her fated future husband, lover, and consort, but Thomas, having experienced a complementary visceral connection to Lucilla, concludes that, as he wishes to avoid love, then she is someone he would be wise to avoid.

So from the instant they part after that first encounter, they are set on opposing tracks—Lucilla expecting and waiting for Thomas to return to her side and claim her hand, and Thomas doing his level best to stay far away.

It’s a standoff, until the actions at the start of The Tempting of Thomas Carrick force—literally force—them together again.

Deerhounds feature in By Winter’s Light and also in The Tempting of Thomas Carrick. Why deerhounds?

I needed a large dog to accompany Thomas through the snowstorm in By Winter’s Light, a dog big enough to physically assist, and also the sort of dog that might have been in such a community—a gentry family in the Scottish uplands of the period. So I went searching for breeds of dogs, and stumbled upon Scottish deerhounds. The more I read about them, the more perfect they seemed, and so Hesta padded onto my stage, and from there, the addition of Artemis and Apollo was an obvious extrapolation.

The dogs are fascinating—a shaggy, curly-coated, quite large breed built for speed and with superb eyesight. They are sight-hounds, and also track on the ground by scent, and as their name suggests, were specifically bred to hunt deer in the rugged terrain.

However, the real impact of the deerhounds, story-wise, doesn’t occur until the next book, A Match for Marcus Cynster, in which the packs we learn about through The Tempting of Thomas Carrick, come into their own and play an active role in Marcus and his lady’s adventures.

Both By Winter’s Light and The Tempting of Thomas Carrick are set in Scotland, in the south western uplands. Were there any particular challenges in using such a setting?

By Winter’s Light and The Tempting of Thomas Carrick are both centered on the Vale of Casphairn, which was a setting first introduced in Scandal’s Bride, the story of Richard and Catriona, Lucilla and Marcus’s parents (more on that below). Thus the settings for the recent books were not a matter of choice, but rather mandated, a necessary return to a previous place.

Such a wild country setting is very useful on the one hand, and a drawback on the other. The rugged beauty and landscape is a plus, while the isolation and the distance from any larger town or place of social congregation severely limits the opportunities for social events, even country house dinners. Consequently, the action in the story remains at all times strongly focused on the interaction between the two principal characters, with little to no distraction from external events. That puts a heavier burden on the romance plot than would be the case in a more urban setting, but that does mean the romance dominates and is always front and center. So there’s positives and negatives in using such a setting, but, overall, such settings definitely have their place when writing romances.

In this book, you also take readers to Glasgow—you paint quite a cosmopolitan picture of the town. How true to life is that depiction?

I admit that my first mental vision of Glasgow was as a heavily industrialized town, centered on shipping on the Clyde. While the importance of shipping on the Clyde was correct, in the mid-1800s, Glasgow was a thriving merchant center with distinct aspirations toward the sophistication, polish, and civilized amenity we might associate with a seaport like Boston. In this period, Glasgow was a major merchant hub, and it was therefore highly prosperous, and the resulting wealth found expression in the houses and squares, the well-appointed offices and genteel clubs and in the evolving social scene.

Readers are familiar with Casphairn Manor, and the Vale of Casphairn, but the nearby village is Carsphairn. Was there a reason for the difference?

This is one of those tales of things that “would not happen now.” I wrote the first novel featuring the Vale of Casphairn and Casphairn Manor back in the days before Google Maps. Or any sort of satellite imagery, or even ready access to detailed maps via the internet. At the time, I had several detailed maps of England, but as the village of Carsphairn is a very small settlement, it was shown in small—not to say tiny and non-expandable—font. So I read the name as Casphairn, not the correct Carsphairn.

Years later, when I was writing Viscount Breckenridge to the Rescue, where the characters spend time in the Vale and at the manor, I was using Google Maps to study the areas to the east of where I had positioned the Vale, and when I zoomed in…I saw that the village name was really Carsphairn! Horrors! Luckily, I don’t think I’ve ever actually said the village itself was called Casphairn, only the Vale and the manor, but it was too late to change those—they’d already been written into history. So the Vale and the manor, both of which are fictitious, remain as Casphairn, while the village is correctly named Carsphairn.

Out of curiosity, I did go back to the original map. To the naked eye, it still looks like Casphairn—only with the help of a strong magnifying glass can you see that extra r.

Lucilla’s position as healer to the Vale community, and, indeed, all people under The Lady’s protection, features strongly in this book. How common were such healers?

Despite the rise of more formal medicine and the doctors who practiced it, traditional folk healers—those we might now term homeopathic healers or herbalists—were not uncommon into the late 1800s in England. In country areas, they would almost always be the first consulted, even by those living in the larger, wealthier houses. The history of herbal remedies is very deep and broad throughout the British Isles, and the more isolated the community, the greater the distance from a major town, the more likely that the people would turn first to the local “healer.” Midwifery and the treatment of common ailments remained largely the province of such healers even into the 1900s.

That said, as mentioned in this book and the next, in this period, when it came to interacting with the apparatus of law and order, for instance in formally reporting a death, the “doctor”—meaning a man formally trained in the western medical tradition—would be the one sent for.

This book is the first of the Cynster Next Generation Novels, and will be followed by Lucilla’s twin brother, Marcus’s story in June. Are there more Cynster Next Generation Novels to come?

Yes, indeed! As By Winter’s Light was in essence a pivotal volume, shifting focus from the original Bar Cynster generation to the lives of their near-adult children, and within the tale of By Winter’s Light were the seeds of Lucilla’s romance, then her book had to come first, in The Tempting of Thomas Carrick. And within Lucilla’s story lie the seeds of Marcus’s story, and as he is her twin, his book, A Match for Marcus Cynster, had to come next. It will be released on May 26, 2015.

But at the end of The Tempting of Thomas Carrick, and even more definitely at the end of A Match for Marcus Cynster, we catch up with the other Cynsters now facing up to the challenge of marriage and finding a suitable spouse. We see and appreciate that all is not going to be smooth sailing for such very robust individuals, neither the males nor the females. There are at least 6 more Cynster Next Generation novels to come—the romances of Devil’s three children, Sebastian, Michael, and Louisa, and those of the remaining “older group”—Prudence, Christopher, and Antonia Rawlings. After that…well, I’m sure that by the time I finish Louisa’s tale, we’ll know a lot more about Annabelle, Juliet, and Therese. And I already know what Calvin and Carter get up to, which should prove a lot of fun. Lots more to enjoy!

Review:

Love and Lust in the Tropics brings the light the subject of if there is truly a soul mate for a person.  We see two people in the book that time distanced only to bring them back at a later date.  Both individuals having traveled through obstacles that led them back to each other.

Donovan is Leigh’s rock.  She believes in him as a person, but she questions their relationship.  Leigh’s decisions in the past has brought some heartache, thus creating some doubts in her mind whether this is love or just lust.  She trembles at making repeated mistakes.  Can Donovan calm Leigh’s mind.?

Donovan has always known what he felt about Leigh.  Time apart never changed his feelings.  But will the history of their love strengthen them or pull them apart.  For Donovan he desires the bringing back together.  What he feels about Leigh is pure passion and love.  She is what ails his spirit.

I really liked how the story started out.  It made you think about love that could find itself through another lifetime.  Are two people truly destined to be together?  I wondered that while reading this passionate read.

Derrick writes a compelling story making the reader truly think about the subject and the characters.  I thought about the novel long after I finished reading it.  It is not a novel that you finish and just put it down.  Part of me speaks to pick it up and read it all over again.  That is one reason why I gave this great novel a high 4 star rating.

I am looking forward to the next story in the series.  I am hoping we can see more of the journey of Donovan and Leigh.  Hang on!!  This is a ride you won’t want to get off.

Emergence From A Failed Marriage

When she married, she hoped the uncertainty would end. Marriage would define her now, and the questions from within would subside. And for a while, it seemed to work. They had an acceptably happy life, and sex was fun, though certainly not spectacular. Occasionally it was really good. He loved her, and she loved him. Their first child was born, and she was ecstatic. Life was wonderful. Then the second child, and life was still wonderful.

She could never figure out when it happened, but somewhere between the ecstasy she felt when the first baby came along, and the fatigue she finally came to feel before she moved out, things changed with her ex in a profound way. The love that was there at the beginning slipped away, pushed aside by monotony and indifference, eventually replaced completely with deep loathing.

Rose colored glasses come with love, and as the rose coloring left with the love, Leigh began to see sides to her ex that she’d never been willing to look at before. She began to see how he manipulated her, and manipulated their children. Years in building, the rose colored glasses finally came off completely when she watched her children come to recognize his lies and manipulation. She could see clearly then, and her only objective was to get her children through school. She stayed with him until the day her youngest graduated, then she moved out.

He acted surprised, but how could he be? She hadn’t let him touch her for years. It was clear to anyone that there was no love in their marriage any more, and that she could hardly stand to be anywhere close to him. While she’d been elated to be out on her own, she was surprised at her grief over the failure she’d been at marriage.

This grief brought to the surface those questions she’d kept buried for all those years. Was she really cut out to be in a relationship with a man? Who, exactly, was she, what was she attracted to and cut out for, and what did she want in a relationship?

Then Donovan came along, and it seemed like he was the answer to all the questions she was asking herself. The universe seemed to have brought them back together, and they seemed made for each other. The chemistry they had between them felt to her like the very definition of passion. They didn’t always agree, and sometimes fought like panthers, but when that passion within each of them focused on each other, it was spectacular.

What she had with Donovan was like nothing she’d ever imagined. She’d read descriptions of love affairs where the man was considerate and caring, where the woman had multiple orgasms, where the sex was as good as the love. But in her mind, this was all the stuff of romance novels and imagination.

She’d come to assume that orgasm was generally something women did for themselves. While sex with a man was fun, it was mostly defined by the climax of the man. While she had experienced the occasional climax during sex, it wasn’t something she expected to happen, In fact, she’d had many lovers with whom she’d never had an orgasm. Even when she’d been in relationships where the sex was good, she’d only occasionally climax during sex–never more than once! She’d never been with someone who paid attention and cared about her climax during sex.

Donovan was different. From the first time they slept together, he seemed more focused on her than on himself. Since she hadn’t had sex in several years, she’d been nervous, not sure what to do or what to expect. In many ways, she’d been more nervous than the first time she had sex as a teenager.

But Donovan was tender and caring, focused more on her than on himself. It bothered her at first, how much he seemed focused on her. She’d assumed there must be some ulterior motive, something he wanted and he was just manipulating her. Reflecting back on it, she realizes how much we’re defined by our experiences, and her marriage to a man who would lie and manipulate had shaped her into someone who expected men to behave like that. Thinking about it, she realized that this pattern probably went back further than her marriage, back to the cop who had manipulated and abused her, maybe back further than that.

The tender caring and concern from Donovan was so unexpected and unusual for her that she’d criticized him, asking why he was so obsessed with her orgasm. What was it that he was really after?

“I’m not obsessed,” he’d replied. “I just care about what sex means to you, how it feels, and how it pleases you. If you don’t care anything about the pleasure of climax, then just let me know, and let me know where you do find pleasure.”

From there, it spun out of control. She began to learn for the first time what sex could really be like. He had a way of finding the things that she loved, even when she didn’t know she loved them. He’d bring her to an orgasm, then rest while she recovered, and do it all over again. At first she was amazed that she could have two or three orgasms before he was done, but then she just stopped counting or lost the ability to count.

Making love to Donovan was like singing a duet together. He was always aware of her, always aware of the note she needed to sing next, always willing to sing a soft harmony when needed. Then, there were times when he would take the tune and wail on the melody, pulling her harmony along with him as he went.

Gazing out into the distance, she wonders if being a good lover is something a man learns throughout his life, or comes by naturally. It must be mostly learning, she concludes. Just as a woman learns the skills of being a good lover throughout her life, a man must do the same. Our bodies create desire naturally–we’re born with it–but the skill to please our partner has to be learned and honed. Still, it takes a man who wants to learn and hone the skill, to make a good lover. The kind of love she feels from Donovan includes a deep empathy that not everyone is capable of. He seems to be able to feel what she feels. There’s magic in that when the clothes come off, and this is something she’s learning with Donovan.

Blurb:

The first time Jolene meets a mysterious man wearing flannel, it’s a case of mistaken identity. The second time, they end up against the side of a bar.

Third time’s a charm, right?

Jolene Hayes finds herself spending the summer in the picturesque mountains of Idaho in order to avoid a past fling. It’s a perfect escape, except for the one problem that keeps popping up: a sexy backcountry pilot named Ty Harrison. Jolene tries her hardest to resist his scruffy beard and flannel wearing ways, but eventually rationalizes that a summer fling would just be like the rest of them—love ‘em and leave ‘em and move on with her life.

Between these two are secrets that could tear them apart before they even get started, though. Life changes without warning, and dealing with the results leaves Jolene protecting her heart at all costs. Ty knows he is everything Jolene doesn’t want, but he can’t let go of the fiery siren.

Throw in the element of wilderness, a small town where secrets can’t hide and the past repeatedly showing up on Jolene’s front porch, the promise of a summer fling becomes complicated.

Review:

We met Jolene in Finding June.  Jolene was the wise friend to June.  She always seemed like she had a good head on her shoulders and was well put together.  In Being Jolene we get to see the vulnerable side of Jolene.  Sometimes, It was truly heartbreaking.  No matter how poor Jolene’s choices were I wanted to root for her to have a HEA.

Jolene meets Ty (aka Sexy Lumberjack).  She fights this attraction between them.  Ty wants a forever and Jolene wants a for summer.  Jolene’s past will come back to haunt her and cause some serious self-doubt.  It will take the love of her friends and dad to bring Jolene back together.  Ty has a huge job in piecing the broken parts of Jolene back.  Will Jolene accept his help?  Will she face her haunted demons with a devoted man?

I really like Ty.  He is probably my most favorite character out of the book.  He wasn’t Jolene typical catch, but he held something that the other men who entered her life did not.  He held a piece of her heart.  Now Ty is on the fight of his life to break the remaining walls around her.  If anyone was to do it I knew it could be Ty.  If Ty lost at this challenge I knew that nobody could win over this woman who held much hidden beauty.

The other characters were really entertaining to read about.  I loved the dialogue each of them held with each other.  The situations that they got into were easy to relate to.  From Finding June to Being Jolene, the stories just seem to click together.  I am so eager to see how the next novel in the series will pan out.  I truly believe readers will find it to be just as great as the other stories.

For readers willing and eager to lose reality and enter the world of a sexy lumberjack, than Being Jolene is just the book for you.  Make sure you get your copy of Finding June first.  You will want to initially meet each character in the first book in the series.

Happy Thursday!!!

Excerpt

Yet, as I stood in the country bar in the middle of Gypsum, Idaho, I started to rethink my whole notion on the bar scene. What I was looking at was quite strange. All I could see was cowboy boots, wranglers, and granola type people. Lots of hats. I scanned the bar from the rickety wooden table I was perched at. This was one of those times where I knew heavy drinking was not a good idea so I slowly nursed my vodka cranberry and took in the crowd. The good ol’ boys were out in full force tonight. I mean, yes I was from Idaho, but I rarely left Boise, a large city. I was used to the more outdoorsy type, Boise was full of them, but all the cowboys I was seeing reminded me that I did in fact live in Idaho. As I took another drink of the watered down beverage, my eyes caught made contact with the last person I wanted to see.

The lumberjack.

Shit. Of all my luck, of course Sexy Lumberjack would be here. I was known for being on top of my game. I always had a witty comeback and I never let anything affect me. Or at least that was the image I put out there. Sexy lumberjack threw me off my game that morning a month ago. Not okay. I scrunched up my nose as I took him in as he stood there, a bright smile on his face as he twisted the bottled in his hands.

Fuck me. What was I supposed to do for four months in this barely-there town with all of these cowboys. And one lumberjack. I didn’t even bother to drink the rest of vodka cranberry. I threw a few singles on the table and grabbed my purse to head out of the bar. I was done with this night.

I was practically out the door when I heard, “Hey. Caleb’s girl.”

I stopped. His alluring soft, deep voice wasn’t anything new. I had heard plenty of men whisper pet names in my ear because they couldn’t remember my actual name. I smirked to myself and turned around to face him.

“Lumberjack,” I addressed him.

He raised a brow. “I’m not a lumberjack.”

I matched his raised brow. “I’m not Caleb’s girl.”

#Excerpt

Jasper stopped, turned toward me, dragged his eyes down my front then yanked off his black t-shirt and tossed it to me.

I stared at his naked chest that was a hard slab of muscle with tats drawn across his left shoulder to link with the ones on his arm.

“Put it on. You stick out like a fuckin’ cotton candy with those stupid horse sparkles.”

I quickly put it on over top and it hung down to my mid-thigh. The scent of him drew into my lungs and I inhaled deeply with my chin down until I heard his distinct chuckle. Then I wanted to shoot myself in the foot.

Jasper’s hand came around the back of my neck and he jerked me toward him. He cupped my chin with his blade still in his hand so the handle was cold against my jaw. Then he leaned in and before I could take my next breath, his mouth was on mine.

My name is Arianna West. I’m stronger now. Steady. Alive.

Review:

Jessica Wilde brings readers a powerful message of becoming a survivor of domestic violence.  In addition, we meet people in the book who are all overcoming guilt in their own ways.  Ari, Jake and Jack all have lived to protect each other, but at what cost has it been? Ari fighting from her past brought up what Ari believed was betrayal from the man she always loved, Jack.  Jack was the longtime friend of Ari and her brother Jake.  As a youth before Ari gets a chance to express her feelings for him, Jack abandons her and Jake and leaves without notice.  When Ari runs from her abuser to be near her brother, she happens just to run into Jack.  What an explosive reunion that was.

Ricochet if full of suspense, action, and sexy men.   There is a mixture of genre’s for fans of all types.  Ricochet is not just a romance, it is a story of admission of love and faith.  It is also of family.  Ricochet brought up the comment that my son made a while back that family is more than those that are blood related.  It is those that are truly loyal to you during the hard times.  For Ricochet, family involved friends that stood behind each other and sacrificed for protecting each other.  That meaning is a gift that Jessica gives to her reader.

There was only one character I did not like in the story and that was the abuser.  It was easy to fall in love with Ari, her family, and friends.  They were easy to relate to.  The banter between the characters were at most times playful, but when needed they would say what was important to help Ari become a better person and see what she was missing.  Watching Ari grow as a person was even a bigger plus of the story.  With her friends and family supporting her, Ari had a chance to succeed and not become a statistic of domestic violence.

Thank you Jessica Wilde for providing a entertaining read with a message for those who may have or currently live with domestic violence.

Excerpt:

I laughed. A laugh so deep that the muscles in my abdomen flexed. How long had it been since I had felt that? Too long. I hadn’t really laughed in a long time and something so simple had brought it out of me.

Jack had brought it out of me.

“God, I missed that laugh,” Jack whispered.

I went silent, so suddenly that my breath couldn’t keep up and it came rushing out with the emotion that had been built up inside of me.

Tears immediately sprang to my eyes and the heaviness in my chest was back.

My life had changed so much. Everything had changed.

“Jack…”

“Ari, please don’t cry.”

He had turned his body towards me and was holding my face in his hands. The tears running down my cheeks didn’t make it far. He wiped each one away.

He saw the moment my control slipped and I just couldn’t seem to stop the tears. That’s when he pulled me into his arms. Arms that had always made everything better. Strong fingers combed through my hair, down my temple, across my jaw, then retraced their way back up and into my hair once more. He was giving me whatever comfort he could while I sobbed on his chest.

I should have been embarrassed about the quick change in my mood. I should have felt ridiculous. Childish. With Jack, though, I never had to worry about being anyone but myself no matter who I was now.

“So much is gone,” I said in a broken and weak voice. “So much is missing from me.”

“No, Ari. You’re still in there, babe, just a little harder to reach.”

I shook my head. In denial? I wasn’t sure. He was only half right.

“I’ve bent too far for too long. I’m broken,” I whispered. So much regret came pouring out of me and I couldn’t control it.

I had been slowly breaking for three years and my determination to move on was waning much faster than I could ever keep up with.

Jack buried his fingers in my hair and I felt the press of his lips on the top of my head. When he spoke, the tone of his voice sounded defeated. Resigned. “The world breaks everyone, and afterward, many are strong at the broken places.”

I sniffed as the rumble in his chest vibrated against my cheek. His shirt was wet from my tears and I knew I looked like a mess, but I looked up at him anyway.

“What is that from?” I asked.

“What? You don’t think I could come up with something so profound by myself?” he teased.

“I know damn well you could, Jack.”

He looked at me for a moment, his eyes searching mine and his fingers sweeping a lock of hair back behind my ear. If I didn’t know any better, I would think he was reading my mind, seeing all my secrets, all my broken places. “It’s Ernest Hemingway. He said that.”

“Do you believe it?”

“I do. So much so that I tattooed it on my shoulder the first chance I got,” he mumbled with a short chuckle.

I glanced down at his shoulder. It was too dark to see much of anything, but the moonlight streaming in the window showed enough when he lifted his shirt sleeve. The words were there, permanently inked into his skin just above a complex shape that I couldn’t quite make out.

About The Author:

I live in Morgan Utah with my husband, daughter, and dog, Kolo. I write as often as my active daughter will let me and my husband has the patience of a saint. I find inspiration from dreams, people I meet, and life experiences. When I write, I usually end up drinking one too many cans of Peace Tea, eating three too many Fruit by the Foot fruit snacks, and accidently kicking my pup and best buddy, Kolo, too many times since he loves to sleep under my desk at my feet.
I started writing as a teen, but my fear of the unknown won out every time and I threw everything out. After becoming a mother and deciding to stay at home to raise my beautiful little girl, I tried again when I couldn’t stop thinking of ideas. I loved every minute, every hour of sleep lost, and every character that came to life in my mind.
It’s strange, but my favorite moments are when I have writer’s block because I can turn to my husband and find inspiration through him by just doing what we do best together. Talking, laughing, and just being in love. He doesn’t like to read, but he never stops encouraging me to keep going.
Writing has become an important part of my life and every book has a special place in my heart.

Excerpt:

Oxford in a suit… hot damn. It’s obviously a custom job because it fits him perfectly, showing off his broad shoulders and tight, toned torso. The allure of the suit is more than just the way it highlights his ridiculous body. His commanding presence while wearing it, the air of confidence that surrounds him. Everything about him screams “power”. Or more accurately it screams, “Don’t fuck with me or I’ll destroy you.” I may not give a shit about his money but power seems to be a bigger turn on than I would have expected.

“What? What’s wrong?” He looks in the mirror, trying to figure out what isn’t working.

“Your ass in those pants! I can hardly contain myself. How does anyone get any work done? All your female employees must just swoon with you strutting around like that. I bet you actually stop traffic. You do, don’t you?”

A sexy smirk spreads across his face. “Trousers, Lily. They’re called trousers. I can assure you I’m a slave driver. My employees are too busy to notice me.” He straightens his tie and looks back at me. “And only occasionally.”

“Occasionally what?”

He winks. “Occasionally I stop traffic.”

I throw a pillow at him. “You’re an arrogant bastard, you know that?”

He sits on the edge of the bed and slips his shoes on. “Hey, you asked! Don’t ask a question unless you can handle the answer.”

I scoot down on the bed and wrap my arms around his stomach. I rest my chin on his shoulder and say, “You’re just lucky I’m prohibited from attacking you, or there’s no way in hell you would be leaving this bedroom. Not for a good long while anyway.”

He peels my arms off of him, stands, and then kisses each of my hands. “I’m going to hold you to that after the doctor clears you.” He walks to his dresser and puts his watch on.

I smirk. “Oh, you’ll be holding something to me all right.”

Gavin closes his eyes and leans against the wall. “You’ll be the death of me, woman. Can’t you talk about football or skiing or carpentry? Anything other than… this?”

“You want to show me what you can do with a hammer, Gavin?” I bat my eyes at him.

He glares at me.

I cock my head and flash him a coy smile. “What? You said carpentry,” I say innocently. “Fine, soccer? You want to come over here so I can show you how to score? I’m sure you’re amazing at getting it in the goal! No? Not better?” I explode into laughter as he storms out of the room.

“Goodbye, Lily,” he yells from the hallway.

I don’t know what he’s so pissy about. I’m just as sex starved as he is! I lie down and close my eyes for a few moments, mentally calming my libido. Suddenly, I feel his weight on me, and he kisses me with a passion that literally takes my breath away. I feel my heart pounding as if it’s going to fly out of my chest.

I pull back. “You change your mind about staying in bed with me all day?”

“If only, Lily. If only. I couldn’t leave without a proper goodbye.”

“Well that was one hell of a sendoff. You’d better go. Don’t want to be late. I hear your boss is a real bastard.”

He kisses my forehead and walks out the door. Damn, that man knows how to make an exit.
