The Closer You Come (The Original Heartbreakers #1)

March 31, 2015

Just released from prison, Jase Hollister has a dark and twisted past.  And now, he has only one goal: stay out of trouble. Strawberry Valley, Oklahoma, sounds like the perfect place for him and his two brothers-by-circumstance to settle down and live a nice, simple life. But model citizen isn’t exactly this rugged bachelor’s default setting—especially when it comes to a certain hot-blooded Southern beauty…

Brook Lynn Dillon has always been responsible. Not that it’s done her much good. The down-on-her-luck waitress is broke, single and fun-deprived. Until Jase comes along. He is dangerous, stunningly protective, breathtakingly sexy and as tempting as sin, and the passion sizzling between them is undeniable. But can it melt her resistance? After all, the right kind of trouble might be just what they both need.

Gena Showalter has hit a home run when she wrote her latest novel, The Closer You Come.  Gena provides readers a message of finding home, deserving love, and letting go of judgements.  The Closer You Come packs power through it’s words and visuals provided to the reader.  As I read the novel, I cried, laughed, and mourned along with the characters.  The emotions emitted from the novel were explosive and at many times brought tears to my eyes.  You take a girl that has been beaten down and mix her with a saddened sexy ex-con and you see the meaning of beautiful.  Two people of total opposites who are truly meant to be together.  Can they both recognize that?

Welcome to the town of Strawberry Valley, Oklahoma.  Visit the fields of strawberries and be welcomed by the townspeople carousing through main part of town.  Play a little chess on the sidewalk, or eat a great burger at the local diner.  These are the sort of descriptions we get of the scene located in The Closer You Come.  This is the destination that Jase Hollister landed after his stint in prison.  He is looking to start over clean, but it isn’t to promising when a one-night stand’s sister shows up to pull her from his bed.  Jase realizes that he has messed up when he sees what his actions have done to this fiery girl.

Brook Lynn is struggling with keep afloat financially.  She has been the protector to her older sister, Jessie Kay, that life is draining everything from her.  Recently fired she starts a new venture with Jace and attraction sizzle between them.  Jace is hiding his past.  He doesn’t want to be judged or abandoned again.  He is cynical about love and relationships, and voids all emotional entanglements.  Can Brook Lynn be the one to change him?

Brook Lynn is the character that is easy to love.  She feels different because of hearing problems she has.  She is looking for forever, but jealousy arises between Jace and her sister.  Brook Lynn is everything a man could want.  She is nonjudgmental, loyal, dedicated, and passionate.  It doesn’t help that she is also beautiful and doesn’t know it.

To me Jace possessed a sense of being childlike in him.  The scars he carried both external and internal had him vulnerable to a desire of wanting to be loved and cherished.  Jace’s thirst to be accepted had him at times building up walls that would take a village to knock down.  I wanted that village to be Strawberry Valley and Brooke Lynn.

There is even some surprises for readers in the story.  It was a nail biting experience during those scenes.  I was flipping through the pages so fast that my fingers had a hard time catching up.  I cannot wait for the next story in the series.  I am glad I was able to put this in my paperback collection.

I recommend The Closer You Come to be added to your must read list.  I see this story being a huge 2015 best seller.  A standing ovation to Gena Showalter for a story worthy of repetitive reading.

Review: Becoming Somebody by H. D’Agostino Blog Tour + Giveaway & Teasers

Becoming Somebody Tour BannerSynopsis Becoming Somebody Book 2 :

Becoming Somebody ecoverWhat happens when everything you thought you knew suddenly changes with a few simple words?

When Samantha Connelly fell hard for the one person that could rip her world apart she wasn’t prepared for the bomb he would later drop on her. With a few words, Brian completely turned her world upside down and sent her into an emotional spiral.

Forced to leave town once again, she begged him to come with her…pleaded with him to choose her…to love her, but Brian had his own agenda that he couldn’t deviate from.

What happens when two people who are meant for each other are forced apart with no reunion in sight? How do you recover from the reality that you may never see one another again? How do you go back to being a nobody when all you want in life is to be somebody to someone?

I absolutely loved the sequel to Sam’s story.  It was about family, loyalty, and having faith.  The epic ending at Being Nobody carries into Becoming Somebody as Sam struggles to continue her life without her true love.  Sam receives quite a few surprises, and attempts a relationship knowing she will never love this man.  She bides her time between her new relationship and her family.  After four years, her handler delivers information that could change everything in her life.

Sam has been a character that I have truly gained an appreciation for.  She has undergone so many changes in her life that would destroy the toughest of persons.  No matter the circumstances she trudges on in her journey.  Always willing to go and leave at a moments notice.  Having to spend a majority of her life being a nobody, hiding in the midst of civilization, Sam will have to learn how to become a somebody and really exist.  Will she ever receive a normal life?  Can Sam learn to define what normal is to her?

The story continues to flow so evenly from the Being Nobody to Becoming Somebody.  There was no confusion in restarting the story up from where it ended in the previous novel. Heather D’Agostino wrote so eloquently about a couple that distance nor time could separate their love for each other.  I craved reading more of what would become of this duo.  Would they find each other once again?

There is going to be another story in the Witness Series.  I am so excited to see what will become of this couple.  I am going to let it be a surprise of who it will be.  I will promise you that when you find out the voice we will hear next it will be exciting for you as it was for me.

A must read addition to your TBR list.

Happy Tuesday!!!

I had it all: an adoring husband, supportive friends, thriving career, a homey condo in the city.

Amend that.

I had it all except for love from my family. But life was spectacular because I had him. Max was everything I dreamed a husband could be and somehow he loved me just as wildly as I loved him.

Until one cruel night he was stolen from me.

Then I had nothing but a vicious battle ahead of me. It’s a struggle so treacherous, I’m not sure if I’ll make it out with my heart in tact. But on the other side of that brutal war waits the most wondrous prize.

Will I allow myself to move forward?

Olivia Luck lives in the middle of America with her loving husband and her obsession with writing. She wrote her first romance novel at age eight. When she’s not reading, editing, or writing, you can find her in the kitchen learning to cook. Olivia loves to travel and spend time with her family.

Get in touch with Olivia, she adores emails:

Prologue – Hers

When my husband works overnights at the fire station, I sleep on his side of the bed. Max doesn’t know that even though he spends more nights in our bed than out of it, I miss him enough to burrow in sheets emanating the remnants of his aftershave. It’s like being cocooned in his arms even when he’s not around. Sleep comes easier over here.

That’s where I am, tucked underneath the down cover, safe in a dreamless slumber when a pounding rouses me. My heart leaps in surprise and I launch into a seated position, hand hovering over my chest. With a blind hand, I slap along the bedside table to find my glasses and jam them onto my nose. Knuckle pounding against wood doesn’t cease when I capture the time.

Nothing good can come of someone knocking on your door at one in the morning.

I scoot off the bed and shrug into the lightweight robe that lies on my husband’s suit valet.

He hates it when I leave my things there, I think numbly. Somehow my body’s moving forward, even though every nerve ending screams at me to crawl back into bed and pretend this is a dream. It’s almost like the Grim Reaper lurks on the other side of that door. I imagine a black hooded robe, bony skeletal fingers clutching a scythe waiting for me.

If there were enough time, I’d bargain with him. Beg to replace my life for his. Give up everything I have on God’s green earth for the man who gave me the gift of a full, flourishing life.

A knock on the door means it’s too late for brokering. If a ringing phone yanked me from sleep, it wouldn’t be this daunting. The fear wouldn’t be overpowering all of my other senses.

With a quivering hand I flip a light switch on and unlatch the lock on our front door.

Their faces are grim, solemn. Hot tears blur my vision before I can identify who has come to deliver the news. Even before they speak, a strangled cry rips from my throat and my knees buckle. Like a puppet cut from its strings, I collapse toward the floor. Strong arms encircle my waist squeezing me tight.

The pressure of this man’s arms around me is the only thing reminding me I’m still alive and not thrust into the depths of hell.

“Don’t say it,” I shriek. A feral cat stole my voice box, the howls ripping from my body completely unlike any other sound I’ve ever made.

“Violet.” This time the stern voice fights through the tornado of emotion and I blink hazily upward.

“Felix,” I whisper through a dry, cracked throat. Soot and ash still mar his cheeks, hair disheveled in every which way. Weariness seeps off him, from the slump in his shoulders to the exhaustion in his eyes.

“We lost him. I’m so sorry. We lost him.”

I don’t remember much of anything after that.

Declan front cover

War almost destroyed them, but they survived thanks to their brother in arms Declan.

Coming home wasn’t as sweet as they’d hoped, lives had moved on without them. For one it was all too much.

United by grief and angered by injustice the Wounded Heroes vow to always be there for each other.

Little do they know that’s going to come sooner rather than later.

Declan is more than a story of a sexy military man.  It is a story of putting down roots and starting over.  After Declan’s life becomes so explosive, him and his friend take a journey throughout Australia.  They come across a small town pub where his traveling partner knew the owner.  Declan craves something new and buys out the pub.  With the pub comes a beautiful woman named Holly and plenty of headaches.  What Declan doesn’t knew is what is in store for him to help out the town and the local MC’s.

Ava has written a story that will ignite your craving for this war torn soldier to have a HEA.  The reader will root for the underdog and cheer for a man worthy of having a solid woman and relationship.  Declan brings along characters that know the meaning of loyalty.  When one needs help all former unit members come running without hesitation.  My favorite secondary character was Cam.  He was the closest to Declan and he was the most loyal.  What man would go with his friend across a country to help out ghosts from the past?  The only person I did not like was the widow of his comrade.  I believe she should have been more conscious on how events affected Declan.

Holly was a family member of one of the former member’s of Severed Justice.  She lost quite a bit in her young life.  She remained vigilant with the remaining members of Severed Justice.  Her  relationship with Declan would have been considered taboo since he was not a patched member.  Holly didn’t care.  She truly desired this man and what he represented.  To Holly Declan carried all the characters of a great man.  He was charismatic, loyal, honest, and a fighter.  Declan represented what was good in the world.  Even if that meant putting himself in danger.

The story contains quite a bit of action.  It was a nail-biting experience.  I recommend Declan to lovers of soldiers as well as those that like heat in and out of the sheets.  I can’t wait to see what will continue to happen in this series.  We will keep you tuned in.

Declan teaser DECLAN

The touch of my fingers sends a small tremor through her.  I try to keep the massage firm, yet tender.  I can already see some of the tension leaving her body.  She groans as I knead the hard knot at the base of her neck.  This past week has been a living nightmare for all of us, but especially her and the stress has really knotted her neck and shoulders.

My hands leave her skin for a moment as I reach for more body lotion. She moans in protest.  There’s a delicate hint of coconut in the air as I warm it in my hands before applying it at the base of her spine.

I knead up and down her back, leaving a trail of warmth where I’ve passed.  I can feel my cock twitching in my tight boxer briefs, begging to be let loose.  It’s been too long since I allowed myself that particular pleasure.  After everything that’s happened I wasn’t sure it would show interest in sex again, I’m pleased that it is, but I can’t. Not here. Not now.

Georgia is laying face down underneath me, dressed only in skimpy briefs so that I can massage her back.  My legs are astride hers and I’m pretty sure she can feel my cock pushing against her.  She says nothing though.

How the fuck did I find myself here? On this bed and in this position?  This is my friend’s widow for fucks sake.  I need to show him some respect.  I need to remember the man that he was, not the shell he had become.  He sank so low that there was no coming back.  That’s why I’m here.  We buried him today, so the last place I should be right now is in his widow’s bed.

I couldn’t ignore Georgia’s scream though as she’d woken from a nightmare, or the fat tears rolling down her face. She’s too young to be a widow; she’s not even forty. She has her whole life ahead of her.  I’d consoled her by drawing her into my arms, sitting on the edge of the bed and pulling her close.  She’d whimpered when my hand touched her back.  The downside of living with Max for these past few months had been the abuse.  She may have outgrown most of the bruises but the residual pain was still there.

I’d offered her a back rub in my innocence, and that’s how I came to find myself here now, sitting on top of her and desperately begging my cock to go back into its usual state of stupor.

There’s something sensuous about caressing a woman’s skin, and it’s turning me on.  As awful as it sounds it helps that I can’t see Georgia’s face.  I couldn’t do this if I looked her in the eye.  I need to just pretend she’s some anonymous stranger if I’ve any chance of getting through the rest of this night.

Georgia moans as I release a particularly deep knot in her shoulder, but it sounds more like a moan of passion than relief.

“Declan,” she pleads. “I need you.  I need this.” She whimpers.

“I can’t.” I whisper back. “I can’t do it to Max.” I apologise.

“Fuck Max.” She hisses.  “He didn’t give a shit about either of us these past few months. I need this.” She pauses. “And from the feel of your cock digging into my ass you need it too.” She reasons.

She’s right. I do need it.  But I can’t.

“I can’t look you in the eye.” I apologise.

“Then don’t.” She reasons.  She reaches down behind her, pulling her almost non-existent underwear down and raising her ass slightly.  I can see her glistening pussy. She’s wet for me and I know for sure that my cock is hard for her.

I dismiss the guilt from my mind and release myself from my boxer shorts.  Without allowing myself time to think about it I push into her.  Fuck! That feels so good. It feels so tight and deep.  I pause for a moment just enjoying the sensation, and Georgia lets out a loud groan of satisfaction.

“That feels fucking amazing.” She almost purrs.

Slowly I move in and out of her, each time it feels like I’ve gone deeper than the last.  Her legs are trapped together between mine by her shoved down underwear and her ass is gripping tightly to my cock as I move in and out.

She moves a hand to caress my leg. I stop her by holding her arms down.  From the satisfied moans she’s making, it’s clear she likes that.  Her face is almost hidden in the mattress, the pillow already tossed aside.  She’s got short hair, I want to grab hold of it and pull her head back each time I push into her, but it’s too short for that.  It’s just long enough to hide her face, and that’s probably a good thing. If I saw her face right now I suspect my cock would deflate faster than a popped balloon.

The only sounds in the room are the slap of flesh against flesh as my movements become stronger as do our mutual groans of pleasure.  I slap her ass sharply, and when she doesn’t protest I do it again.  She’s pushing her ass back up against me, silently begging for more.  I give it to her.

That’s when it all goes to shit.  I’m having the best sex I’ve had in months, fuck it I’m having the only sex I’ve had in months, when I hear it.

A car backfires outside and I lose it.  Suddenly I’m not in this suburban bedroom; I’m back in Afghanistan the day it happened.  I can feel the heat, taste the sand in my mouth, and hear the screams of the other guys.

I snap out of it, just in time.  My hands are round Georgia’s neck and I’m strangling her.  She can barely breathe, let alone make a sound and her face is going a shade of purple.  I release my hands quickly.

Georgia draws in a deep gulping breath of air before collapsing back down to the mattress and taking shallow breaths.

“What the fuck!” She croaks, her voice barely there and raspy.

What do I say; how the fuck do I explain the nightmare that I live constantly? I can’t.  Instead I do the most dick move possible.  I pull out of her and rush from the room without explanation.

Within minutes my bag is packed and I’m gone.  Driving to an unknown destination in the dark of the night. I didn’t even say I was sorry.

I’m not sure where to go so I just drive.  I’m not fit to be around normal people.  Something broke in me out in Afghanistan, and I’m not sure I can ever be mended.

So I drive, and wait to see where the road takes me.

Review: Ricochet: Locked and Loaded by Heather C. Leigh Blog Tour + Giveaway

RICOCHET BANNERRicochet: Locked and Loaded (Ricochet, #1)

Heather C. Leigh

Releasing March 29, 2015

Rick “Ricochet” Brennan served eight years as an elite Marine special ops Force Recon soldier. After an injury, and the terrible memories from that night, he retires and goes to work for his former Command Officer, Howard “Mack” McEvoy, at his training center in Atlanta.

Sanctum MMA appears on the surface to be a normal gym, training elite fighters to be the best. Except each trainer, hand-picked by Mack, possesses a special background that allows Mack to run one of the best-kept secrets in the country.

When twenty-four year old Quinn Wallace finally escapes her abusive husband, she turns to her father’s old Marine Corps buddy, Mack, for help. Broken and skittish, Quinn finds herself surrounded by large, intimidating men— men who could easily overpower her. She avoids them the best she can, but when Rick turns out to be more than just a rough fighter with bruised knuckles, she finds herself wondering if she can allow herself to trust again.

Ricochet is a full-length novel to be released as three parts.

***This book contains hot sweaty men, sexy scenes for those over 18, and uncomfortable, sometimes violent scenes.***

Ricochet: Locked and Loaded is a mixture of G.I. Joe and MMA.  It is a steamy story, and  has a great message of starting over.  In Ricochet, love is found in the most unusual place.   The series is three part, each book being released close to each other.  The story will leave your heart racing and craving for the next book to come out.  I have read the whole series, and I will  tell you that each book grows from the last one.  You will definitely want to jump on the ride to read the Ricochet series.  It is so worth it.

Rick (aka Ricochet) is a man known for non-committal.  He is one that is a bed them and then leave them kind of man.  Than he meets Quinn, and everything he has known is thrown out the window.  Quinn is not like any other woman he has ever met.  She definitely isn’t impressed by his prowess.  His flirts seem to throw her off more than excite her.  He wants a chance with Quinn, but he will have to fight to have this chance.  This means a change of his ways.  Can Rick do it?

Quinn has secrets that are haunting her.  She is scarred from her past, and fears what may come.  She is working at a gym that is owned by her father’s military buddy.  Mack is almost like a father figure, and we will see more of him as the series progresses.  Can Quinn let go of her fear to allow her friends in?

The story is extremely worth the wait to find the ending.  It has some sweet spots that will have you swooning for a HEA for this couple.  The journey that Rick and Quinn takes will be full of bumps and hurdles difficult for the strongest of all to overcome.

I highly recommend readers check out this series.  Each book will be more explosive than the others.  It is worth its weight in gold.  Trust me when I say that you will be left having a book hangover when you are done.

Definitely worthy of a one-click!!

Happy Reading!!!

Excerpt: Rick and Quinn in the break-room

Feeling ridiculous, Quinn ducked her head, turned, and practically ran down the hall to the break room. She shut the door behind her and sagged into it, leaning her forehead against the hard surface. “Shit,” she whispered to herself.

“You do that a lot.”

“Oh my God!” Quinn spun around to see the man with the striking aquamarine eyes, staring at her from his seat at the break room table. She choked, which made her cough, making it difficult to catch her breath.

Rick, his name is Rick.

The dark haired Adonis reclined in his chair, hands clasped behind his head as he smirked at Quinn. “You okay there?” She nodded, still unable to speak. “You scare too easily, doll.”

“What?” Quinn rasped as she dug her fingernails into her palms to stop her hands from trembling. She was still recovering from surprise he gave her, otherwise she would have scolded him for the doll comment… maybe. If she weren’t so frightened of the man.

“Every time I see you, you’re cursing under your breath.” Rick lifted an enormous bottle of water to his mouth and chugged down a third of it, never taking his sharp gaze off of Quinn’s. She noticed the large hand he had wrapped around the drink, knuckles scarred and bruised from fighting. That’s what all of these men did for a living, they fought or trained other men to fight. Those hands could hit… hard.

Danger! Her mind told her again. Quinn’s heart was racing frantically, feeling as if it may explode in her chest.

She shivered in response, but not from the fear she should be feeling from being so close to such a dangerous man. No, Quinn shivered because he was so damn hot she couldn’t stop imagining those large, rough hands running all over her skin. The way his lips surrounded the bottle and his throat working to swallow… she felt it in a way that made her uncomfortable. The fear mingling with desire had her flat-out confused.

Quinn unintentionally let her eyes roam over his broad chest, which was covered by only a thin, tight T-shirt that had the sleeves cut off and was damp with sweat. His sinewy arms were on full display, each muscle cut perfectly. The only mark on his beautiful tan skin was a black tattoo of a skull inside a circle with wings coming off of it and a knife or weapon behind. For a minute, she thought she recognized the tattoo, but she wasn’t close enough to know for sure.

I would love to lick that tattoo. Oh my god, where did that come from?

Feeling her neck and cheeks flame up from her deviant thoughts, Quinn quickly gathered herself, remembering that this cocky man was poking fun at her. Dangerous or not, that made her mad. She narrowed her eyes at his annoyingly gorgeous face.

“Well, you like to sneak up on people. It’s not nice. And, I’m not your doll.” She crossed her arms over her chest, trying to look confident when all she really wanted to do was run out of here and hide, or maybe run across the room and straddle his lap. She was equally torn between the two. So what did she do? Nothing. Her feet were rooted to the spot.

“Sneak up on people? You came in here, remember?” Rick pushed his chair back and got to his feet in one surprisingly nimble move for such a big man. Quinn swallowed when she got a good look at how tall he was, having to tilt her head back to see his face. The last time they spoke, she had been sitting while he leaned over her desk, his muscular body hidden behind the half wall that separated her from the lobby. Now that they were both standing, she could see that he was much, much taller than her petite five foot four inch frame. Her subconscious kept screaming at her.

Quinn instinctively backed up, not stopping until she felt the kitchenette’s countertop dig into her lower back. Rick continued forward, only halting when there were just inches separating his large body from hers. He put his hands on the cabinets behind her, one on either side of her head caging her in. A small whimper fell from her lips and her breath stuttered. Quinn balled up her hands, running a fingertip over the ridge on her right palm. She shuddered from the thought of that scar, but when she remembered how she got it, she felt somewhat stronger. It was her badge of courage.

“And,” he said, close enough that she could smell him, a faint mixture of aftershave and sweat. It was potent enough to make her bite her lip so she wouldn’t try to lick his neck or bury her face in his chest and inhale that masculine scent. “Lots of people think I’m nice… doll.” Then he smirked.

Quinn’s mouth fell open at his arrogance.

Attraction or not, frightened or not, his slick overconfidence grated on her nerves. Braver than she’d felt for the first time in a long time, Quinn smiled at the egotistical man with the hypnotizing eyes. She refused to be another one of Rick’s groupies, and she was quite sure he had plenty of them falling for his easy charm and rugged perfection. “Yeah, well, those people that think you’re nice? I’m not one of them.”

Trembling, she ducked under Rick’s arm, unable to keep herself from noticing how hard his abs were as she nudged by. Pretending to be fearless, Quinn snatched her purse out of her locker, and left without saying another word.

Saving Me: Heat Wave Series #1

Oh man, not the strawberry… not the strawberry… Aw, shit.

Erik Monteague clenched his jaw and steeled his defenses against the impending carnal assault. The laughing guests, jazz band, overflowing food tables—everything at the Sinclair Marketing Group open house faded into the woodwork as his field of vision narrowed down to ruby lips and the damn lucky strawberry about to be sucked into them.

Her pink tongue flicked across full, luscious lips, then scooped a bead of chocolate from the bottom of the large, ripe fruit. She opened her mouth, slid the berry inside, and wrapped her lips around it.

Good God Almighty. Erik shifted his stance and stifled a moan. “I can’t believe I’m jealous of a piece of fruit.”

A familiar chuckle pierced his lust-filled haze, causing his pinpoint vision to snap back to wide-angle view. From the corner of his eye, he spotted his best friend, Steve Vex, making like a bartender, serving up a beer.

“What’s up?” Steve asked, laughing.

The smirk on Steve’s face proved the question was rhetorical, so rather than answering the jackass, Erik swiped one of the beers. “Perfect timing.”

“Yeah, you looked like you might be overheating.” Steve tipped his bottle in her direction and hitched his chin. “I’ve never seen her before. Who is she?”

Who is she?

Erik stared at Steve for a moment, perplexed by the simple question. It shouldn’t have required much thought, but Erik, always a straight-shooting, tell-it-like-it-is kind of guy, found himself hedging.

He pinched the bridge of his nose and squeezed his eyes shut, trying to ward off the explosive memories of her and their night together.

Her mouth—warm and slick—wrapped tightly around him…

Her beneath him, bottom lip caught between her teeth in an effort to hold back her screams… Her mouth dropping open to gasp for air as she cried out her release…

Him waking and reaching for her, only to find himself alone…

He swallowed hard and scrubbed a hand down his face. “I don’t know who she is,” he said, somewhat truthfully. After all, just because you knew someone intimately didn’t mean you knew them.

Steve quirked a pierced eyebrow. “Yeah, I think I’m going to have to call bullshit on that.”

At times, having a friend who was closer than a brother was a true blessing. This wasn’t one of those times. “Sometimes you’re a real pain in the ass.”

Steve’s lopsided grin grew to obnoxious proportions. “Yep,” he said, “it’s something I live for, especially where you’re concerned.” He took a sip of beer and waited. And waited. And when Erik didn’t elaborate, he pressed the issue further. “Seriously. What’s the deal?”

Erik took a long drink of beer, then studied the floor and fought the urge to shuffle his feet like a teenager being grilled by a suspicious parent. He and Steve had been friends since the first day of kindergarten, when they’d both gotten into trouble for standing underneath the monkey bars, sneaking peeks up the girls’ dresses. In their twenty-seven-year friendship Erik had never kept anything from Steve.

Until now.

Unwilling to analyze why he wanted to keep her identity, or the scope of their relationship, private, when he’d never worried about that kind of thing before, he grinned slyly and said, “My friend, we have shared many things. But whatever I might know about her, I’m keeping to myself.”

“Damn.” All traces of amusement dropped from Steve’s face, and he whistled low. “That sounds serious.”

Erik bristled at what he suspected could maybe, possibly be a spec of truth, if he allowed it to go that far. But he recovered quickly and turned it into a joke. Nailing on a smile, he said, “It is.” He took a moment to enjoy surfing the shock waves rolling off his friend before adding, “Serious lust. You know, the kind that results in sex that’s mind-altering, not life-altering.”

Shit. The instant the words left his mouth, he knew he’d taken the sarcasm too far. He’d left an opening big enough to drive a truck through, and, as expected, Steve barreled in. “Dammit, Erik, it’s been ten years. When are you gonna let it go and move on?”

Erik rolled his head in a circle, attempting to loosen the muscles in his neck and shoulders that’d suddenly snapped into tight bands. They’d had this conversation too many times to count, and he didn’t want to have it again.

Not tonight.

Not ever.

Rather than delve into the past—a past he couldn’t change or forget—he directed his attention across the room to something much more pleasant.

Last Call: Heat Wave Series #2

Gavin took a step closer, then paused, gauging her reaction. When she didn’t back away, he took another step. And another. Caught in the grips of his simmering stare, her skin tingled, her panties dampened, and her breasts grew heavy.

The warmth of his body and the spicy scent of his aftershave pulled her to him like a magnet. When she was close enough to see the individual whiskers of his five o’clock shadow, she realized how far forward she’d swayed. She tensed, forcing the forward momentum to halt, then stepped back until she bumped the counter with her butt.

His sapphire eyes turned to midnight as the pupils dilated. His throat worked, and his nostrils flared. He closed the distance between them and rested his palms against the counter at her sides, boxing her in. Even though he wasn’t touching her, his body heat mixed with hers, and the temperature in the room rose twenty degrees. Her palms grew sweaty and perspiration popped out on her neck and forehead.

Could anything be more unattractive? She reached under his arm and slid the top of the beer cooler open. As a rush of cool air swept over her, she sighed with relief.

She could tell from his grin and the glint in his eyes that she amused him, but that only lasted for a moment. The humor quickly slipped away, and the sultry heat returned. He dipped his head and drew in a deep breath. “You smell good. Like strawberries.” He nuzzled her neck, then nibbled her ear.

The awkward nervousness she’d been feeling gave way to hammering excitement. She’d always wanted a wild ride with a man like him, or what she suspected he might be like. Her body recognized this was her chance, and it responded with a resounding all systems go.

As adrenaline and excitement rippled through her body, she started to tremble. She tightened her muscles so the shaking wouldn’t be obvious, but he noticed anyway and pushed back to give her space.

He studied her face, then looked down at her breasts. As hard and painful as her nipples were, they had to be visible through the fabric of her halter-top, and she fought the urge to cross her arms to cover herself. He made a soft, appreciative sound before flipping his gaze to her face.

“For a minute I thought I’d frightened you.” His voice was low and husky. “But you’re not scared, are you?”

She pressed her hand against the side of his face and stroked the sharp ridge of his cheekbone with her thumb. “No. If anything, I’m afraid of my strong reaction to you.”

But she sure as hell wasn’t going to let a little fear stop her from getting on this ride.

Crossing Lines: Heat Wave Series #3

Mirrored shades served several functions. They looked cool. They protected the eyes. And they provided the perfect cover for sizing up a man’s ass.

Sam Wallace always found work boots sexy, and as Kevin Mazze stormed across the parking lot, he screamed sex with a capital S. His powerful strides were like those of a lion as he moved with authorial grace through the concrete jungle he ruled, commanding attention and respect.

A sigh slipped from her lips as she followed the roll of his shoulders under his light-blue button-down shirt and the sway of the soft, well-worn denim.

He was the man her mama warned her about.

The one her friend, Cheri, begged her to find.

When angry, his eyes were cold and hard and his lips compressed into a sharp, thin line. But when he smiled, those steely eyes turned soft and gooey, like rich, dark chocolate, and his bottom lip grew thick and plump, perfect for nibbling.

The whole package reminded her of fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies, and her mouth watered for a bite.

She hadn’t been with a man since her piece-of-shit ex walked out. And even though Cheri encouraged her to find one, Sam steadfastly refused. She didn’t need a man… At least, that’s what she claimed.

Kevin Mazze, however, put a little purr in her motor and made her want to take a test drive.

He wasn’t wearing a ring—not that she’d been looking. She just happened to notice his finger was bare as he silenced his phone… Right before she saw the dark, curling chest hair peeking over the open top button of his shirt… Which she noticed when she snapped her gaze upward in an attempt to not get caught staring at his crotch… Which definitely snagged her attention.

Oh hell, who was she kidding? Everything about Mazze called to her on a deeply feminine level, guaranteeing him a starring role in all future fantasies.

“You’ll have to overlook his irritability,” Wade said, interrupting her thoughts. “He’s on edge because of the wedding.”

Her heart sank with the sound of screeching tires, signaling an end to her dreams before they even got started. “Oh, yeah? Who’s the lucky girl?” Realizing that might come across more forward than she intended, she turned to Wade to clarify.

Before she could formulate her defense as nothing more than a figure of speech, Wade said, “Oh, no. I doubt Wildman will ever marry.” He laughed nervously. “He’s planning my wedding.”

A ridiculous image of Mazze in a yellow sundress, wearing a matching hat and white gloves, directing the flower girl and bridesmaid from the back of a church, flashed through her mind. The scene was straight out of a bad horror movie and completely incongruous with the real-life, testosterone-driven flesh and blood.

The closest Mazze probably ever came to a dress was while removing one. Patience didn’t seem his strong suit, so rather than dealing with delicate buttons or sticky zippers, she imagined he would just rip and strip.

Kinda makes a girl want to go out and buy a dress.

Going All In: Heat Wave Series #4

As they made the short ride from The Bellamy to Five Guys, Callie forced herself to ignore how much space Wade took up in the seat, the way the interior of the work truck carried his unique scent, or the condensation forming on the windows. The patches of fog reminded her of the scalding hot car scene from Titanic, and the urge to recreate the scene, here and now, had her shifting uncomfortably in the seat.

Lord, her head was a hot mess, and not just because the rain and humidity had turned her natural curls into a tangled rat’s nest. Her cranial scrambled eggs had nothing to do with the weather and everything to do with the perplexing man beside her. The morning started off as she expected, with Wade being surly and gruff. But as the day wore on, his hostility lessened and gradually slid down the scale to… something else.

However, because of her limited experience with men and her inability to see situations clearly, she couldn’t figure out what the something else was. In direct proportion to his lessening wildebeest impression, she caught rare glimpses of his true nature, things she’d never been privileged to see before. Like the soul-deep kindness that radiated from his eyes when he was concerned about her hurting herself by trying to lift too much. Or the way his soft, sensual lips pulled higher on one side when he smiled, giving him the appearance of a mischievous little boy.

An impression that was quickly dispelled when the eye wandered lower than his mouth. One look at his large, hard body proved there was absolutely nothing boyish about Wade Neumann.

He also seemed to be noticing her in a way he never had before, and based on the scowl that usually followed one of his heated glances, he wasn’t pleased about the newfound interest.

Callie had a reputation for being a prude, and she’d never been more dismayed about the validity of that reputation than now. If she were like Jen—whose moral compass had been zapped by the same unknown forces that caused planes and ships to disappear in the Bermuda Triangle—she’d know exactly what to do to capture and hold his attention.

But she wasn’t like Jen, and she was clueless.

Steeling My Haart

Eight years ago Emma’s life is ripped apart when Charlie saves her life from a devastating tornado and walks away. Left with nothing, she moves from Glen Springs, Oklahoma to New York. She finds success, but the only thing that feels like home is M’s Place, the diner near her apartment.

A trip to Las Vegas changes everything. Things are looking up then tragedy strikes. Emma moves back to Oklahoma with more on her plate than she ever imagined. Can she finally get her life together and put the history between her and Charlie to rest?

35Stars Review:

Steeling My Haart is about starting over and learning to trust again.  It is about friendship and family.  Readers will enjoy the romance as well as a hint of mystery provided in the story.  There are even a few surprises in store for you.

Charlie and Emma have a life planned together.  When a tornado occurs Charlie leaves Emma in the dust to venture out for new places.  Heartbroken, Emma starts a new life in New York City.  She elects never to return to Glen Springs.  Life for Emma is stuck in existing only for work.  Her only friend is Lily, and her two kids.  Emma is in Las Vegas when a blast from the past occurs keeping her startled in what to do next. Upon her arrival back in New York City life is suddenly uprooted and home is starting to look good again.

I liked Emma’s character.  She hurt for a love lost, but never accepted defeat.  Emma picked herself up and started life over again.  No matter what tragedy struck her, she just never gave up.  The loss of Charlie could have destructed her, but no not Emma.  Her character was strong and resilient.

Bruce was probably my favorite character.  Once you really got to know him he wasn’t all that bad.  When Emma needs help Bruce is always on standby.  His character was smart, witty, and gregarious.  He also thought out of the box.  His concepts he came up with to help Emma were a work of genius.

Charlie broke my heart.  He left Emma not feeling good enough for her.  What he didn’t realize is that his diploma status didn’t matter to this girl.  Charlie was loyal and loving and that is what Emma saw.  She saw a devoted son taking care of his ailing mother.  That defines a man more than just his education.  He had a mother he loved and he choose to help support her instead of finishing school.  It was saddening to see that Charlie never recognized how truly a good of a person he was.

Reading about the characters was the favorite part of the book for me.  Each of them held a special spot in the plot of the story.  All of them helped in a defining climax and an epic conclusion.

Enjoy a day with Emma as you take an adventure of love, loss, and family.  Hopefully wherever you are you are having a sunny day and can enjoy a cup of joe along with Steeling My Haart.

Happy Monday!!!

30 – something Mum of two from the North of England (Yorkshire to be precise AKA Gods own Country) who regularly seeks refuge in fictional characters minds. Prefers the hot and hunky men with a romantic side but not averse to a dominant man, nor ones with a dark side too!

She decided, after much persuasion from both her friends and especially her husband to pursue her dream of one day publishing her own book!

So after much deliberation (and nagging from him indoors), her first book Steeling my Haart due for release March 2015!

Charlie turned to grab his sweetheart to pull her into the safety of the shelter and he found she had vanished. His heart failed when he realized that she could be anywhere by now if she had been caught in an updraft because the power of this storm was terrific. He stood from his position near the entrance and glanced around in every direction. Even though it was pointless he started frantically shouting,

“Emma, Emma where are you? Emma!”

His voice drowned out by the relentless force in play around him. Seconds later he ran in the general direction of a muffled scream. The intensity of the wind had obviously dragged her several meters from the shelter. Because of the increasing force of the storm and she was clinging for dear life to a tree. Grabbing her with both hands and holding on with all his might, he managed to free her grip from the tree trunk and dragged her down the stairs into the cellar. He safeguarded her on the floor near the shadow of what looked like a small bed and then went back up and tightly secured the shelter door. He took a moment to silently thank old Mrs. Fitzgerald for her emergency planning.

As the relief hit him and the adrenaline coursed through his veins he fell against the dirt wall of the entrance tunnel with his back and his legs gave way. Letting out a long sigh, he realized he could hear the sounds of gentle sobbing coming from deeper in the shelter. The noise outside was phenomenal although he hoped that the storm would relent soon. He crawled slowly on his hands and knees towards his beautiful girlfriend, the love of his life, and took her into his arms and held on like it was all he could do to survive.

As Emma melted into him, he felt complete and he lost count of how many minutes they sat there in the darkness just listening to the sounds of the storm raging above them. The only other sounds were of their ragged breaths and thundering heartbeats. That had been too close.

Loving Kate is the third and final full-length novel in The Acceptance Series.

It’s crowded, but since it’s a weeknight, it’s not nearly as packed as usual. Since I’m about to lose my bull riding virginity I’m thankful for the slightly smaller crowd. As promised, Mike goes first but the ride operator isn’t as gentle on the men and he flies off pretty quickly. I think he might have wacked his balls against the hand hold on his way down. He winces a bit as he gets up.

“You okay?” I ask him, giggling, but I’m truly worried about his man parts.

He pulls me in close, his breath caressing my ear. I’m holding my breath as he whispers, “I think my baby makers are broken.” I laugh as he places a kiss on my cheek. “Good luck, baby, now go ride that bull like you’d ride me.”

He says it loud enough for everyone to hear and if I thought I was going to go deaf from the music before that was nothing compared to the whooping and hollering of the crowd. Of course the ride operator uses it to his advantage “What’s your girl’s name?” he yells across to Mike.

There’s a devious gleam in Mike’s eyes as he replies “Jessica, but all her good friends call her Jess.” He nods that he’s got it and after I’m straddled onto the bull, he holds nothing back.

“Alright, everyone, let’s hear it for our new friend Jess! Now, we all heard her boyfriend tell her to ride our bull like she rides him at home, so I think we’re in for a show.”

My cheeks were already flushed from the alcohol, my palms sweaty from nerves, but the embarrassment zinging through me makes my entire body burn. I catch Mike out of the corner of my eyes, laughing and shrugging his shoulders in a semi apology. At least he had the decency to not give my real name.

The bull starts off nice and slow, periodically gyrating a few times in a forward motion, but I’m able to hold on with just one hand. I don’t really know how long this goes on, maybe a minute or so, when I hear the announcer tell Mike over the PA system that he’s a lucky man. At this point, he’s done being nice and the bull starts bucking around like crazy. I’m able to hold it together for about another thirty seconds or so before I go flying off.

Someone helps me to my feet and I stumble over to Mike as the crowd starts chanting ‘kiss, kiss, kiss, kiss’.

Hell, at this point what does it matter? Mike’s eyes seek permission from mine as I wrap my arms around his neck and pull him close. He kisses me and the crowd goes wild. It’s just like the kiss we shared in my bed a few days ago—a little more than just friends, but not exactly like lovers. Whatever it is, I allow myself to feel it and the crowd cheers their approval.
