Review:

Barbara Cutrera has really written an exception thriller when she wrote A Lovely Dream and A Lovely Reality.  Barbara is able to take a story where two main characters become a part of the readers life.  You can feel the suspense in your bones as well as the love that Michael and Seneca have for each other and their family.  The journey readers will embark upon will take them through dangerous waters and perils that keep readers on their toes until the very end of the book.  Barbara is able to use her creativity with words to engage the readers attention and hold it from the beginning of the book.  Before you read A Lovely Reality make sure you read A Lovely Dream.

The story line of The Lovely Reality is what initially caught my attention.  I am a book adrenaline junkie.  The Lovely Reality was a major fix to my addiction of thrillers.  I wanted to figure out on my own the who, what, why, and where of the mystery.  Barbara really keeps you guessing on finding these answers.  The story wasn’t a simple quick closed case.  You have to find the secrets and mysteries locked within each chapter.  I will also say that the story does contain quite a few surprises.  Even the ending is a major twist for the reader.  I will leave that for you to experience.  Trust me you will want a cup of Joe and a big bowl of popcorn while reading A Lovely Reality.  I loved how fitting that name is as well.

What also was a huge factor in my rating was the main characters.  When I read both books I felt like these characters were ones that I could relate to and that they were one I could imagine as the story went along.  Michael and Seneca were devoted to each other.  Seneca was this wife that would fight for her husband until the death.  She was a strong woman whom never let defeat become a word in her vocabulary.  Seneca was a character that I thought I would like to be like.  She maybe a fictional character but I felt like I understood her while I was reading the story.  Seneca needed to have a strong definition with her personality in order for this story to be able to go in the direction that it did.

I am looking forward to more from Barbara Cutrera.  She is an author that is well worth keeping on your must read books’ list.

Happy Reading!!!

Excerpts from A Lovely Reality

By the time we reached our room, Michael and I had an hour to change and go downstairs. Michael slid the digital key into the lock and held the door open for me then followed me inside. Within seconds, his powerful body was pressing against mine as my back was pressed against the wall. His mouth was on mine, and my arms encircled his neck.

“You look so beautiful,” he murmured when he moved his mouth to my throat.

“Michael, we don’t have time,” I protested weakly.

“Like hell we don’t.”

“But we’ll have to shower before we go downstairs,” I pointed out in a feeble attempt at resisting what I always wanted when it came to Michael.

He stopped and straightened, and I was torn. I looked up into his bright blue eyes and knew I had no reason to wonder what we should do. We were going to have sex. The animal inside of him was pulling hard on the leash.

We were both naked in under a minute. He led me to the bathroom. While I washed my face, Michael punched buttons into a panel on the wall and rock music with a driving beat poured into the bathroom from speakers I couldn’t seem to locate. He stepped into the enormous shower and started the showerheads going on some sort of mist setting on the three sides. When I stepped in, he immediately pulled me to him. I always adored the sensation of his wet skin against mine, and he knew it.

“You’re not playing fair.”

“A writer once said all’s fair in love and war. I think he might have been onto something.”

Once I was certain Hadeel had chewed and swallowed her food, I offered her some juice. She shook her head and said clearly, “No, Mama.” Pointing to the rice and pasta mixture, she demanded, “I want more of that.”

I gave her another spoonful before looking at Krystal, who looked as surprised as I felt. Krystal waited until the toddler had finished chewing and had taken a sip of juice before asking, “Hadeel, who is that over there?”

After looking across to where Krystal was pointing, she said, “Daddy and Hani.”

“What is Daddy doing?”

“Feeding the baby,” she replied before reaching for the risotto and saying, “I want more, Mama.”

I gestured to Krystal and asked, “Who is this?”

“It’s Kry-stal!” Hadeel said then giggled before indicating she wanted more risotto. I gave her another spoonful and asked Krystal to get Michael, who was giving Hani a bottle while talking to a male cousin. I watched as Krystal interrupted the discussion and motioned for Michael to follow her. He walked over with Hani in his arms.

“What’s wrong?” Michael asked worriedly as he sat on the other side of Hadeel’s highchair.

“Hadeel, tell Daddy what you want.”

“I want more!” she exclaimed and indicated the rice and pasta. “I like that.”

Michael looked stunned then amused. I recounted the other sentences Hadeel had uttered and wondered aloud how many others she knew and just hadn’t shared with us, yet. A few moments later, she dropped the stuffed Winnie the Pooh toy she’d been holding and exclaimed, “Oh, fuck! Pooh fell down.”

I was horrified. Michael exploded with laughter and couldn’t seem to stop. Krystal snickered beside me. The relatives in our vicinity asked what was so funny. Michael was laughing so hard he was crying and couldn’t catch his breath.

“I guess you were right,” he said, once he’d regained enough control over himself to speak again. “I suppose I shouldn’t swear in front of the children.” He burst out laughing again, saw my expression, and said, “Sorry. It’s too funny.”

“It won’t be funny when we go to Mommy and Me exercise class and she says that word in front of the other mothers and children,” I declared angrily.

Michael got up, came around the highchair, bent down, and kissed me. Depositing Hani into my arms, he turned to Hadeel and said something to her in Arabic. She answered – in Arabic. Michael turned to me with a huge grin on his face and said, “By Jove, I think she’s got it!”

My anger dissipated in an instant. Michael seemed exuberant. He looked carefree and totally happy. I caught a glimpse of Al out of the corner of my eye and saw him as he intently watched Michael. He himself was grinning madly, and I knew how happy it made him to see his grandson so relaxed and overjoyed.

______________________________

It was nighttime, and Michael and I were walking down a street in a city I didn’t recognize. He had an arm around my shoulders, and I had one arm around his waist. We were laughing, talking, and having a great time simply being together.

As we reached a narrow alleyway, Michael pulled me off the street and into it. The alley was pitch-black. I asked him what he thought he was doing, and he replied that he didn’t think he was doing anything. What he was going to do was make love to me.

“Here? Michael, we can’t.”

“Oh yes we can,” he countered, as he lowered his lips to my throat and wasted no time slipping one hand up under my short skirt. I wasn’t wearing any underwear. I gasped and reached for his belt. He laughed and undid my blouse as I unzipped his fly and asked, “What if people hear us?”

“Would it bother you if they did?”

Had there been any light in the alley, I knew I would have glimpsed his smile and would have seen the feral look in his expression.

______________________________

Coming up behind me, Michael pressed against me and brought his hands to the front of my sweater. He deftly undid the buttons and pulled it off then undid my bra and let that drop to the floor. I brought my hands up and wove my fingers into his hair as he caressed my breasts then slid his hands down and undid my skirt. It fell to the floor, and my underwear soon lay on top of it.

I turned and slipped my hands under his sweater, then pulled it over his head. I quickly undid his pants and pulled them and his boxers down. He stepped out of them. I had expected him to lead me to the bed, but instead he picked me up and carried me through the backdoor and across the lanai.

“Michael, it’s freezing! I’m cold!”

“You won’t be for long,” he told me with a mischievous smile. “I want to make love to you on the beach. It‘s a beautiful night, and the moon is full.”

“Hel-lo! It’s also freezing.”

He laid me down on a blanket that he’d obviously spread out on the beach while I was in the bathroom. Before I could object, he covered my mouth with his and positioned his body on top of mine. Although still shivering, I stopped arguing with him and gripped his broad shoulders. I looked up at Michael with his powerful, muscular body poised over me and moved my hands across his naked flesh. I opened myself to him and pulled him towards me. He suddenly appeared ferocious, and I wanted to feel the animal unleashed.

I unleashed a ferocity of my own and completely forgot about being cold.

Review:

The Roughnecks Series has probably been my favorite series from Chelsea Camaron.  I like all of her books, but this series contains so much passion about subjects that are important.  Chelsea takes an important message and provides readers with meaning while still entertaining at the same time.  The series starts off with Maverick.  That story dealt with family as well as education on diabetes.  Heath is more of a story about overcoming horrors as well as finding hope from friends and resources.  The story holds a special dedication that is dear to my heart.  To be honest, I am really excited to see what is in store with the next story, Lance.

Heath is an underground fighter as well as an oil drill worker.  He has seen horrors growing up and commits to helping others as an adult.  As a fighter he tends to notice all sort of different abuse, but when it comes to his from door Heath is reluctant to take upon this big task.

LoraLeigh lost her mom at a young age.  She ended up being used as collateral for her mom’s drug debts.  From there she is used as a possession for fighters in the underground world.  When a fighter loses they provide her as a prize to the fighter who wins.  When Heath receives LoraLeigh as a prize will he turn her away?

What broke my heart in the story was LoraLeigh’s journal.  I cried a few times when I saw how she recorded her life in her journal.  When she ended up on Heath’s doorstep I wanted to root for her to finally get help.  It was like cheering for the underdog.  LoraLeigh had a journey she needed to take to heal herself.  Heath was the healer to her wound. Readers get to see characters in Maverick as well as the friends in Heath make a stand to assist a woman who has fallen into the depths of hell in her life.   That is another huge reason why I love this book so much.  Family is shown to be more than blood.  It is shown to be made from loyalty and friendship.

I highly recommend The Roughnecks Series.  You take an alpha male with a courageous woman and mix them together to where they heal each other and that is the sum of what you will read in this absolutely perfect series from Chelsea Camaron.

Happy Reading!!!

Value, worth—these are things I don’t have. College degree, great job—none of that matters if you look in the mirror and can’t find anything to love.

Structure, dedication, and determination are the traits that Candace Jones has survived and thrived on. When no one cares at home, it takes her self-drive to push and work her way through college. Life is funny while you’re growing up, and adulthood isn’t any easier than childhood. Little girl dreams are often destroyed before they can even begin.

Lance ‘Rush’ Miller works hard and plays even harder. He lives life from one adrenaline rush to the next, from working as a roughneck to trick riding his street bike. He has it made and knows it.

Two complete opposites are thrown together when Candace finds herself in need of a quick escape that Lance is all too willing to give her.

What happens when firm resolve crashes into wild abandon?

~LoraLeigh~

“Once upon a time…” my mom begins reading. The softness in her voice is a lullaby all its own. Sweet memories of a moment in time, these small blips in my existence are a silent torture all their own.

“Lora—” She stops abruptly, most likely pulling her own hair out at the roots. “Fucking twat, where are you?” I listen as she continues to screech. “I know you took them. You took my candy, you little cunt. When I find you, I’m gonna claw your eyes out!”

Did I imagine the bedtime stories? Is my subconscious playing tricks on me? Is this all some game, played in my mind? Where is the mom I had in my little girl dreams?

The woman who once braided my hair and read me stories about castles and princes on white horses now lives to torment me. The last time she thought I hid her stash, she pulled my hair so hard it came out in a big chunk in her hand.

Absently, I run my fingers over the still healing scratches on my face. Two days ago as she was tweaked out on God knows what, she attacked me, saying I was a zombie trying to eat her flesh.

Rigging the string to the attic access door, I settle into my little nest. Today is the twenty-third. Any time after mid-month is when the stress level escalates. The welfare and food stamps have certainly run out by now. As soon as the first of every month comes, she trades the grocery card for cash. That very cash then pays for her stash while I live off my free breakfast and lunch at school each day.

Tears fill my eyes. Summer is coming, and I know I will spend my days hungry and my nights hiding from whatever scumbag hangs out while she lives from one high to the next.

“LoraLeigh, where did you put it?” she cries out desperately. “Please, baby girl, Momma needs her medicine.” The walls bang as she begins hitting them with her arms and head, trying to draw me out of hiding.

“Dear God in heaven above,” I whisper as the tears fall down my face, “my friend at school, Tawnie, told me to believe in you. She says you protect little children. I need to be protected. Send me someone to take it all away. Please take me away.” I look to the darkened ceiling above me, hoping on some miracle there really is a God, and he will save me from my hell on earth.

About the Author

Chelsea Camaron - author-2Chelsea Camaron was born and raised in Coastal North Carolina. She currently resides in Southern Louisiana with her husband and two children but her heart is always Carolina day dreaming.

Chelsea always wanted to be a writer, but like most of us, let fear of the unknown grab a hold of her dream. She realized that if she was going to tell her daughter to go for her dreams, that it was time to follow her own advice.

Chelsea grew up turning wrenches alongside her father, and from that grew her love for old muscle cars and Harley Davidson motorcycles, which just so happened to inspire the Love and Repair and Hellions Ride series.

When she is not spending her days writing you can find her playing with her kids, attending car shows, going on motorcycle rides on the back of her husband’s Harley, snuggling down with her new favorite book or watching any movie that Vin Diesel might happen to be in.

Review:

Shadow of Doubt is extremely intense, action filled, and contains steamy scenes between a damsel in distress and a sexy alpha protector.  The very beginning starts off explosive and continues full strength until the very end.  What do you get when you mix an ex-soldier and a courageous woman on the run together?  You have off-the-charts passion and an adventure that will keep you on the tip of your toes.  Now that is a story I love to read.

Michelle has a knack for finding herself in unsafe situations.  When Michelle was in college she found herself in cartel country while on a trip for her classes.  Jeremy is brought in with his squad to rescue Michelle and assist in her receiving medical help.  Before Michelle’s medic flight out of Columbia Jeremy makes a promise to Michelle.

Six years later Michelle calls in her promise from Jeremy.  They both have thought about each other over the years.  Michelle is in trouble and needs someone to come in and assist finding a killer and save her life in the process.  As Jeremy reaches out to help Michelle they both end up on the run.  Time is running out, and it could bring disaster to this duo.

I loved the premise of the story.  Two people learning to save each other as well as find justice for wronged actions.  Michelle and Jeremy were perfect for each other.  Readers could really feel the chemistry found in the words.  Both Michelle and Jeremy were haunted by their scars and really that made them click together even better.

The unit that Jeremy is in charge of represents a sort of family.  They each have one another’s back.  When one person is in trouble the remainder of the squad comes together to keep trouble from causing too much damage.  There is even a tad bit of drama within the unit.  That just keeps the story line even better.  What my favorite part was the closeness though.  Pride and ego was not a huge part when it came to helping someone in trouble.  The author composes the characters so that each person fit a role while in the squad and as friends to each other.  That just adds more depth to the story.

With all that in mind, Shadow of Doubt will provide a fix to romance lovers, action fans, and lovers of suspense.  Put that all together and you get a solid 4.5 star rating.

Happy reading!!!

Review: Down the Shore by Tina Torrest @TTorrest

Down the Shore

April 21, 2015

Down The Shore

Blurb:

Livia Chadwick is a photographer by day and a self-proclaimed rock slut by night.

Her dating life is a lackluster parade of evasive jerks and her boss is an unrelenting nightmare of a human being. What else can a girl do but rent a beach house with her girlfriends and blow off a little steam every weekend? But hey, she’s from Jersey. Barhopping down the shore all season is sort of mandatory. All is going according to plan… until she meets Jack.

Jack Tanner is a contractor-turned-musician in a small-town cover band suddenly thrust into the limelight. He’s already had enough of the rock-and-roll lifestyle, and groupies have never been his thing. Then again… there’s a gorgeous brunette in the audience tonight, checking him out with the most incredible green eyes he’s ever seen.

She’s looking for a fling.
He’s looking for forever.

It’s gonna be one helluva summer.

Set in the summer of 1995, Down the Shore takes the reader on a tour through some of the Jersey shore’s hottest hot spots over one, sleepless, flannel-clad summer. It’s a look back to a time when the music was groundbreaking, the rock clubs were king, and bar bands ruled the world. Read when you’re in the mood for: something light, funny, romantic, beachy, and nostalgic. For ages 18+.

***Not recommended for anyone under the age of 18, and/or any readers who are slut-shamers, guido sympathizers, beach haters or anti-music. Other people who should walk away from this book immediately: Readers who have sticks up their butts regarding offensive language, those who don’t like detailed sex in their stories, idiots who think “Jersey Shore” has anything to do with actual New Jerseyans, and anyone who can’t appreciate pop-culture from the mother-effing nineties.***

Review:

Down the Shore is a fun, passionate, and endearing story of the ability to learn to love.  We have two characters that have different philosophies on relationships and sex.  Down the Shore provides an excellent back from of the Jersey Shore.  Readers get to see the sights, enjoy the music, and partake in the recreation of being on the sand.  What starts out as a could-be hook-up turns into something more.

Livia does not believe in HEA.  She is a girl that goes for one-night stands with rockers.  Relationship is not a word in her vocabulary.  Livia is a hook-em and leave-em kind of girl.  A rejection from a certain rocker turns Livia’s life totally around.  She is baffled by a man refusing for a one-night stand.

Jack has lived a life of woman and music.  When he meets Livia, Jack knows he wants more than one-night.  He turns Livia down and offers her an arrangement for something more.  Will Livia accept Jack’s proposal?  Will the past both Livia and Jack have come back to haunt them?

The ride that Livia and Jack go on was quite the adventure.  I wanted to see Jack and Livia have their HEA.  Livia needed a lesson on love.  What she experienced with her parents had her feeling damaged about musicians and relationships.  Jack is this perfect hero to teach her the lessons of love.  He is strong-willed, passionate about his desires, and full of compassion for those around him.  I wish I had a Jack for me.  When situation between Jack and Livia goes south I wanted to scream at them for allowing the past to come between them.  With their situation looking bleak Jack and Livia must follow a path in order to ever have a chance of success.

The secondary characters were written so well.  I liked Tess, who was Livia’s wing woman.  We also meet Livia’s sister Vix.  Vix is the total opposite of Livia.  Vix is more level-headed.  She wasn’t really approving of Livia’s rocker one-night stands.  Having Tess and Vix with Livia brought out more of Livia’s personality.  Without the two readers would never get to see the real side of Livia.

The story is extremely well rounded and written so readers attention is captured by the vivid details.  The author introduces the five senses to the readers throughout the entire book.  It was easy to feel like you were present in the book.

If you like a book that makes you feel like you are on vacation than you will definitely love Down the Shore.  I give it a high 4.5 stars for the visuals used as well as how well written the characters.

Happy Reading.

Royal Hastings is quickly learning what the bottom looks like after a tragic situation at work threatens not only her career but her partner’s life. As a woman who has only ever had a few real friends she’s trying to muddle through her confusion and devastation all alone. Except she can’t stop thinking about the sexy southern bartender she locked up. Crushing on Asa is the last thing she needs but his allure is too strong to resist. His long criminal record can only hurt her already shaky career and chasing after a guy who has no respect for the law or himself can only end in heartbreak.

A longtime criminal and a cop together just seems so wrong . . . but for Asa and Royal, being wrong together is the only right choice to make.

Review:

There is not enough of a high rating to give Jay Crownovers newest title, Asa.  If you have not had the privilege (and it is a huge privilege) to read a story from Jay than you are definitely missing out.  Jay has a talent to bring character that all readers can feel a part of their life.  These characters represent a part of all of us.  That is why I have never given below a five star rating on any of Jay’s previous book.  The Marked Men series has come to an end in Asa.  This series has tugged at my heart strings and brought many a tears along the way.  We have met new friends and lost others along the way.  For me, Asa was a story that I could relate to most of all.  This broken man needed a woman’s love and loyalty to heal his hurting soul.

Asa was a good man who had done some not so good things in the past.  He conned others to live and support his family.  Eventually this game was out of control and it almost cost his life.  In Asa this is his story of self-redemption.  Asa has a chance to experience and allow love into his life.  Though, he has to first all all forgive himself.  That is where Royal comes in.

Royal has her own demons.  Her partner on the force was shot and injured and Royal holds survivor’s guilt.  Asa comes into her life to stop Royal from bringing on more problems then she needs.  Royal is attracted to Asa but Asa believes he is not good enough for Royal.  Plus there is the slight problem that Royal is a police officer and Asa believes he is trouble.

The story engages readers attention as Royal fights to show Asa his worth.  The whole gang stands behind her and tries to help Asa see that his spots have changed.  He is worthy of having a loyal and loving friendships and relationship.  For Asa, he just felt like he could never be good enough for anyone.  Especially to this beautiful woman willing to give her heart to him.

Asa’s story holds healing powers, passion, and beautiful tender moments.  It was almost like looking at my own life.  When I finished reading the story I was left pondering on the comparison to my own destiny and choices just as Asa did for himself.  I believe that is what makes Jay’s books one of my favorites.  I think many of people can paint their own life’s pictures through Jay’s books.  Asa just happened to be the one most closest to my own life.  It wasn’t quite the cons I could relate to him.  The level I was with Asa was the choices I made in my life that hurt those I loved and cared about.  I will be honest I spent quite a bit of time reading Asa’s story and crying.  When I finished Asa’s story I felt a bit of hope and a ray of sunshine in my own life.  That is another talent that Jay has.  She just knows how to bring sunshine into her readers’ lives.

If you want passion and healing than I highly recommend Asa.  The story is extremely engaging from beginning to end.  You will not have one moment of lull at all during the entire time you read any of Jay’s books.  Asa is no different.

Take a journey with Asa and Royal.  See the group for a final time in Jay’s last Marked Men series novel, Asa.

Happy Reading!!!

Title: Gabe

MAGABEAlvarez Security Agency
Former Special Forces brothers-in-arms now working together to provide an elite security service in the southern city of Richland.
Gabe Malloy, dedicated to his brothers, spent his weekends with cheap booze and easy women. When some of his friends finally settled down, he wondered if he would ever find the woman of his dreams. He just never expected to encounter her in an alley.
Jennifer Lambert worked as a social worker for the city and would often take food to the elderly residents in her building. One night, in an alley behind a restaurant, she was startled by a tall, handsome man wanting to assist. Giving him the cold shoulder, she left…but dreams of him followed her long into the night.
Gabe knew the independent Jennifer was a woman worthy of knowing, but convincing the beauty that she needed him was the challenge. Raising her young brother plus the responsibilities of the elder center, had kept her from looking for love…but she took a chance on Gabe.
Now that he found her, can he keep her safe when someone threatens her and those she loves? Calling upon his brothers, Alvarez Security races to save her before it is too late.
****Due to scenes of an explicit sexual nature and language that some consider crude, please be warned – for 18+ only! If you do not like alphas with heart who fall instantly in love with strong female characters while dealing with real life issues…again be warned!!*****

Best seller in Military Romance and Mystery/Suspense categories!!

Review:

Maryann Jordan has written another home run when she wrote her newest title Gabe.  Gabe is captivating, sensual, and has another alpha rescuing a damsel in distress.  Gabe is the start of another series from the Alvarez Security books.  Ladies and gents make sure you keep tuned in for a series that will leave you swooning to the men that protect their women at all costs.

Gabe has been dating the starlights of Hollywood types for a while.  The one-nighters are getting old and he years for a relationship with substance.  At an event he is at on security detail Gabe has an unique chance meeting with Jennifer.  This beautiful pixie captures him unfortunately Gabe’s playing ways come back to haunt him in the form of cruel words to the girl that captures his attention.

Jennifer has no time for players or for relationships.  She has her responsibilities at home as well as with the elderly she keeps watch for.  Jennifer seeks ways to find food and help for those that are older and in need of care.  Those she helps return loyalty and their own form of protection.

When I first read about Jennifer and Gabe I saw one huge similarity between them: they both are on a mission to protect and serve those that can’t help themselves.  For Gabe it is in the form of personalty safety and security.  For Jennifer her mission is to help the senior citizens find a place to live and food to keep from starving.  The food Jennifer provides maybe the only meal for many who come to her.  She works hard to never turn anyone away.  I liked her character for this main reason.  Jennifer just is not one to allow her responsibilities to flounder.  That is what made me a little bit hesitant with Gabe’s player ways.  As usual Maryann Jordan does not disappoint when this alpha man goes from player to family man.  He definitely redeems himself throughout the book.

Unfortunately, many do not appreciate what Jennifer represents.  Jennifer holds claim to something that these bad people will stop at nothing to obtain.  Will this protector in Jennifer’s life save her in time?

Gabe holds many a mystery and action packed scenes.  There are surprises in every chapter.  I can say that this novel definitely keeps you on your toes.  That is just how Maryann writes though.  This fantastic author knows how to engage your attention and hold it until the very end.

The characters are relatable.  We still get to meet a nice portion of the characters from other stories.  You take all of these characters and put them together and you create a family type bond.  I also liked Gabe’s twin Vinny.  Vinny held a sense of humor that even Gabe didn’t have.  When Vinny gets his story told, readers will have an epic time on that front.  Tony’s, the founder of Alvarez Security, will have an epic story as well.

Keep tuned in for more details on future stories from Maryann Jordan.  You will definitely see upcoming exciting times from this awesome author.

Early Reviews:

*****Maryann Jordan you have written another immaculate story, that will render your readers speechless. Gabe story is about love, loss, trust, survival, friendship, brotherhood and community. The main characters as well as the secondary characters will become family and will take residence in your heart.

*****Things one of those books that will not only knock your socks off, but also pretty much draw out most emotions you can name off the top of your head.
Yeas there are some super hot sex scenes but there are moments that will bring you to tears. You will feel fear for the characters and see how true love for someone can bring a grown man to his knees.

*****This new series is in my opinion Maryann’s best work! I fell in love with the characters and the story. There are many twists and turns and ups and downs. Gabe is a solid Alpha male working for Alvarez Security with his brothers in arms. Jennifer is a sweet little tiny woman who only puts others in front of herself. And Ross God Bless his little heart!! This story is an amazing journey of love and protection. About fighting for what you want. Highly recommended.

Down the Shore

Excerpts:

Jack’s lips purse together, as if he’s literally trying to bite his tongue. Instead, his eyelids lower to half-mast as he says, “You’re not so tough, you know. You try to put up this big front, but your act is pretty transparent.”

I put a hand to my hip. “What the hell is that supposed to mean? I’m not putting on an act.”

“Sure you are. This whole groupie thing you’ve got going on. I’m not buying it.”

“I wasn’t trying to sell it.”

At that, he cracks a small smile, and it makes me feel more vulnerable than had I been standing there completely naked. You know, kind of like how he almost is.

The thing is, I almost don’t mind being called out by him, since most guys don’t bother to scratch beyond the surface. It’s flattering to think that Jack is intrigued enough to try. Because honestly? I was full of it when I said I wasn’t acting. I’m sort of impressed that he was able to figure me out so soon. Hell. I haven’t even figured me out yet.

Twenty-something is hard. Trying to discover who you are and who you’re going to be. Some people figure it out early, have it all together. And some people go a little off the deep end and wind up with multiple sex partners, trying to shut out the crushing trauma of trying to find their place in the world.

That’s why his assessment isn’t necessarily a relief. No one likes having their walls torn down, having their shitty reality thrown in their face. I’m sure the unease is playing out on my face as I bite my lip during our awkward silence.

Right now, all I want is to make my escape. “I should bring these down to Monty. He’s going to wonder what’s taking me so long.”

He gives me a long, hard look at that, his lip curling into a dangerous smirk.

“He can wait. I can’t.”

Before I know it, I’m dropping the pans to the floor as he backs me against the wall, his lips crashing down on mine. I want to shove him away, but hot damn. He’s fucking way too good at making me fall to pieces. I kiss him back, because really, what the hell else can I be expected to do?

I smooth my hands up his torso, feeling the muscles of his chest jumping under my palms. I slip my fingers into his hair and part my lips against his, sweeping my tongue inside, his cool, minty taste invading my senses. His insistent lips slant across my own as his hands pull me closer against his length. Despite my wishes to the contrary, my heart starts beating out of my goddamned chest. It triples in pace when I realize Jack’s is racing, too.

He pulls back to take a much needed breath, shooting those mysterious gray eyes into mine. He runs a finger across my bottom lip, lightly brushing it back and forth. “Your mouth,” his aching voice scratches out. “I could lose myself against these lips.”

My brain tumbles over itself as he comes back in for another kiss, wondering if this means he’s changed his mind about letting me do all sorts of crazy stuff to his peen.

Because I totally will.

Just as soon as he lets me.

TPWK COVER

Synopsis

The promises you keep reveal who you are and define who you want to be…

With senior year of college just a breath away, Beckham and Grayson, brothers by fate, battle against their fears and surrender to their hearts’ bidding—consequences be damned; while Addison and Avery, sisters by blood, learn that in romance, all you need is love—except for when life is way more complicated than that.

Written in each of their perspectives, The Promises We Keep tells the story of a couple joined together and another split apart. As they make plans in preparation for life after college in the “real world,” they are each challenged with the reality that love can conquer all; but only if they choose to let it, which is never as easy as it sounds.

Review:

Take a journey with a close group of college kids as they venture campus living to life after graduation.  Not only is it an emotional journey, but it is a spiritual journey as well.  The Promises We Make will have you oohing and swooning, but it will keep you pondering if there is more meaning to life.   It is a book that you will want to savor each page until the very end.  Couples will be tested by their trust and faith.  Others will be tested by their self-worth and endurance.  Can time handle separation of two soul mates or are they fated to walk away from each other?  While it is a contemporary romance, there is much more meaning in it.

The Promises We Make is told in four point-of-views.  We have Grayson-a college football player, Beck-a man seeking help from God before he settles down, as well as Avery and Addison-two twins each learning about life outside the bounds of each other.  All of them have their quirks that make them lovable as the story progresses.  The trials they have to endure will teach them more than the years they have spent at college.  Read this beautiful book with characters that are easy to relate to.  Their problems are ones that happen to an everyday person.  And their resolutions provide meaning to the readers of something more out there for each of us.

The story is based quite a bit upon faith as well as enduring through trials.  Trust is a common theme throughout the whole story.  Isn’t that something we all can relate to?  For Addison and Beck we learn quite a bit about their history.  Their inside thoughts keep readers contemplating of what makes them love each other so much.  Avery and Grayson have a different relationship at the start.  Let’s call it unrequited love.  Fear places a common factor for those two.

If you like a book with subtle passion and rawness in how the characters feel about themselves, the others, and God, than The Promises We Make is the perfect book for you.

Happy Reading!!

Excerpt

Grayson

She slays me.

When she opens the door, the effect she has on me is comparable to being sacked on the football field—no joke. Every time I see her, whether the time lapse is a day, a week, or five minutes, it’s the same. She’s just so freaking beautiful.

She’s identical to my best friend’s girl. They’ve got some crazy attractive combination of ethnicities happening, making them both unique and worthy of a double take. I think their dad is a mix between African American and some sort of French Canadian background, while their mom is of Pacific Islander decent. Avery always says that their mother is to thank for her long black hair. I do her one better and thank God for their mother, their grandmother and their grandfather, too.

For a while, I couldn’t tell the difference between Avery and Addison. I’d always found them attractive, but because I couldn’t tell them apart, I never thought to pursue anything, from fear that I’d end up hitting on Beck’s girl. Then I got to know them—and while they are a lot alike, they are also incredibly different. Not that my ability to tell them apart mattered at that point. By the time I realized that I liked her as more than a friend, it was quite clear that she deserves far better than the likes of me…

But that doesn’t mean that I can’t look.

She’s more than a foot shorter than me; and even though I know she’s got her own little bit of strength, evident in her toned muscles gained from years of running and carrying that cello of hers, she’s so petite and delicate. Sometimes I wonder how her personality fits inside of her small frame. She’s incredibly talented, with a focus and determination that seems to be a reflection of my own. She can also be really shy, which I find to be just downright adorable. Then she’ll get really passionate about something and you can’t shut her up. But she’s always kind and genuine.

When she looks up at me with those big brown eyes, like she is now, and smiles at me with her full heart-shaped lips, she owns me. She doesn’t know it—but she does. What I want to do is scoop her up into my arms and tell her how pretty I think she is, only I won’t. Instead I simple say, “Good Morning.”

Matter of Time (Heat Wave #5)

4/21/2015

Matter of Time - Alannah Lynne

Blurb:

Some might think the phrase, “you complete me” is a just cheesy line from the movies, but Lizbeth Sanders knows better…

In MATTER OF TIME, Lizbeth has spent the past fifteen years desperately searching for someone to fill the void left by Logan Steele’s disappearance from her life. However, rather than finding love and happiness, all she’s found is disappointment, heartache, and an ever-present longing for the man she can never have.
Fifteen years ago, Logan Steele left the woman he loved to marry his high school sweetheart and be a father to the child he didn’t know he had. He’s always tried to do the honorable thing, to be a good husband and a great father, but despite his sacrifices and best efforts, the shaky foundation of his marriage crumbles and falls apart.
When his identical twin surprises him with a reintroduction to Lizbeth, Logan feels like he’s been given a second chance—at life and love. But a lot can change in fifteen years, and after hurting her so badly the first time, building trust isn’t just hard, it’s nearly impossible—especially when duty and obligation pulls him away again.

35Stars

Review:

A Matter of Time is a attention grabbing story of second chances, obligations, and never-ending love.  Two people torn apart by an exes actions only to be thrown together many years later.  Hurts have not lessened nor have the love that Logan and Lizbeth felt for each other.  Second chances maybe though a futile attempt at making the impossible try to work.  It is almost like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole.  That seemed to be the case for these two lovebirds.

Lizbeth has spent the prior years since her break up looking for love in the wrong places.  Nothing will replace Logan.  When brought together pain still resides, but can Lizbeth move on? They say time heals all wounds but when the wounds appear to open again I wondered how they two could move on.  It was hard for me to see in the beginning Logan acting like nothing happened.  I wanted him to grovel like a man held with passion.  I will give Logan a few gold stars for his attempts to woo Lizbeth back.

Logan’s ex was a crazy woman.  I had a feeling about that woman.  As you read A Matter of Time my suggestion is to find the signs that something is off with her.  You will see subtle words thrown in that for me raises red flags.  My number one complaint with the ex is how she hurt Lizbeth as well as her own kids.  Let’s just say that I will sum her up as being a manipulative witch.  I am being kind with those words.

The story line rides like the waves.  The high points come in as you would see with the tides.  During these moments the story engages all of your cylinders as you fall in love with the story of Lizbeth and Logan.  Readers also get to swoon over the steamy twin that won my heart over and over.  I can’t wait to read his story.

If you like a story of second chances than A Matter of Time might be the one for you.  It also doesn’t help that the kids are crazy adorable.  Even the pouty teenager.  Enjoy a day of reading with A Matter of Time and a ice cold lemonade.

Happy Reading.

Excerpt:

Silencing the phone so there wouldn’t be any more interruptions, he dropped it on the table and kicked back in the chair to enjoy the show. “From where I’m sitting, this view is a million times better than any sunrise or sunset from an ocean balcony.”

A grin spread across Lizbeth’s face as she turned her head and peered over her shoulder. “I’m glad you approve.”

“Definitely approve. Work that dress down over your hips, but don’t let it just fall to the floor. Bend over nice and slow and push it down your legs.”

Her dark eyes hooded and she nodded slightly as she slid her palms down her sides to bunch the fabric at her waist, then worked it back and forth down over her hips and thighs. Slowly, erotically, as he instructed, she bent forward at the waist and eased the fabric to the floor. And then she stayed just like that, letting him look his fill of her ass with a strip of red fabric from the tiny thong tucked between her cheeks, the backs of her legs wrapped with lace-topped thigh-high stockings, and her feet tipped forward in black fuck-me pumps.

How could it be that after taking her more times than possible to count, he still wanted her as badly as the second he laid eyes on her in the club?

“Crawl up onto the bed on your hands and knees with your legs spread apart.”

As she shivered in response, he checked the thermostat on the wall. It wasn’t cold in the room, so he assumed her tremor was one of excitement, and a thrill shot through him at yet another validation of her being happy to follow the orders he enjoyed giving.

They’d had enough conversation about their future to know they both intended to fight for it, but they hadn’t figured out the details yet. She lived at the coast. He lived in Charlotte. On a good traffic day, they were looking at a four and a half-hour trip. His business kept him busy and on the road far more than he liked. She ran a business, as well. His business was established in Charlotte, and while it seemed like a good opportunity for her to move to a large metropolis with unlimited opportunities for an event planner, he wondered if he was selfish to ask.

And what about the kids? He could never leave Charlotte as long as they lived there, and he couldn’t ask them to uproot their lives. Especially not when their mother lived there as well.

Fuck. Why did life have to always be so damned complicated and full of twists and curves?

“Why did I think you would join me on this bed?” Lizbeth asked, breaking into his thoughts and bringing his mind back down from the higher realms of thinking, where plans for the future resided, to the basic, primal thoughts that had propelled men for all of eternity.

His woman—hell yeah, he could really get used to that—was on her hands and knees in the middle of the bed, waiting for him to claim her, and he was all up in his head when he should be all up in her.

Shaking off the fear and worry and concern for the future, he pushed out of the chair and stalked toward the bed. “I’m joining you all right.” He slapped his palm over her naked ass, causing her to jump and gasp with surprise, then moan with pleasure as he stroked the silky smooth globe. “Stay as you are and let me enjoy this view for a moment longer while I grab some toys.”

Going All In: Heat Wave Series #4

A good ol’ Georgia boy teaches a Myrtle Beach princess how to get down and dirty…

It’s been two years since Callie Holden helped put her father in prison, and since then, she’s learned a lot about life and herself. To Callie’s surprise, she actually likes working and has discovered money is a tool to be used for good… or evil. She also realizes even though she’s traveled the globe, she’s never truly lived. She longs for adventure and to experience a wildly passionate romance. The last place she expects to realize her dreams is in the arms of the ever-surly man she’s dubbed “The Beast.” But when Callie and Wade Neumann are forced to work together, unexpected chemistry changes everything. In Wade’s arms, Callie finds the excitement and passion she’s been looking for, as well as a few other surprises.

Wade Neumann has spent the last year burying the pain and humiliation of being left at the altar by a woman who used him as a novelty toy before settling down with someone more like herself—someone rich. He’s lost himself in a stream of nameless females since then, but instead of the trysts helping him heal, he’s only grown colder and more jaded. He hasn’t moved on with his life. He’s merely stuck going through the motions… until he meets Callie Holden, a woman who looks like his ex but is actually the opposite—sweet, compassionate, loyal, and most importantly, not wealthy. Or so he thinks. Because just as he starts to believe things with Callie are real and true, she gives him thirty million reasons to doubt all over again.

About the Author:

pa depaul author pic“I’m a multi-genre romance author including paranormal fantasy and romantic suspense.

“I originally hail from Carroll and Baltimore County, Maryland, but also lived in Macon and Warner Robins, Georgia. I currently reside in a beautiful community just outside Philadelphia.

“When my head is not completely absorbed with listening to very demanding characters, I can be found with my nose in a book—not only enjoying the story but studying what makes the novel work. I love action-adventure movies (if it blows up spectacularly, I’m there) and watching way too much TV. (Can everybody say “Procrastination?” To which I usually reply, “But it’s research!” Yeah, they don’t believe me either.). More times than not, my husband and Shi Tzu stand outside my closed office door wondering, “Is she still alive? Do we dare bother her? What if she’s on a roll?” Monty usually answers by scratching on the wood anyway. Gotta love a dog who doesn’t care about boundaries! Good thing he’s so cute!”

Excerpt

Cappy could only murmur, “It’s okay,” over and over into the crown of her head. He shifted to relieve his crushed balls and sent up a small prayer for guidance.

He hated feeling so helpless.

He had seen good men, good soldiers, struggle with the horrors they faced in war. Whether the violence was by their own hands or what they watched their buddy go through didn’t seem to matter. They were crippled just the same. To witness this exquisite creature’s terror as she fought to stay out of Raul’s phantom hands left him feeling inadequate and guilty. He should have known about her capture sooner. Should have been able to save her from that hell.

Images of her tortured body rose in his mind. Christ, what those men had done to her. Rage curled in his gut as he gently stroked her arm. He wished he could kill them all over again and not just for what they subjected her to, but for the men he had lost that day. Friends who didn’t deserve to have their lives cut short because he had lost focus and allowed his emotions to lead.

Fewer tears soaked into his shirt and a soft snore filled his ears. He gently transferred her to the couch, replacing his arm with an ugly beige pillow.

After crossing the room, he motioned for Talon to lift the paper towels. His teammate tipped his head back and removed the wad. Bruising across the bridge of his nose had already started blossoming spectacularly. “You’re going to have a hell of a shiner just in time to replace the one that just healed.” Cappy peered closer. “You need to get that looked at.”

“I’ve had a broken nose before.” Talon pivoted and entered the kitchen. “This doesn’t feel like that. Any ice ready in the freezer?”

Cappy opened the appliance’s door but it was empty. A stack of plastic trays sat neatly on top of the refrigerator, waiting to be filled. “Nope. Go see a doctor anyway just to be safe. Call me when you’re released. I’ll give you the list of supplies we need from the store.” Cappy stepped out of the kitchen and glanced toward the couch. Michelle still slept in the same position he’d placed her in. Good. He motioned for Talon to follow him through the dining room and out the sliding glass door.

Once Talon crossed over the threshold, Cappy closed the door and angled his body so he could watch over Michelle.

Talon flicked a glance down Cappy’s sight line and snorted, then winced at the action. “You better get your head out of your dick and wake up.”

Cappy jerked at the attack and straightened to his full height. “Excuse me?”

“That girl murdered Colin Harris and you’re in there stroking her like a damn puppy.”

“We don’t know that for sure.” Even to his ears he sounded defensive. Shit.

“Spoken like a guy wanting to get laid.”

“Hey,” Cappy snapped. “I’m still your CO”

“Then act like a commanding officer,” Talon retorted, not getting the message to back down. “Find out what happened.”

Cappy gripped his hips to keep from encircling Talon’s throat. “What do you think I’m doing?”

Talon tried to snort again. “I don’t know, clearing the house so you can screw her.”

“Get real,” Cappy retorted. “She doesn’t really want me, just what I represent.”

“She’s suffering from hero worship and you have a rescue complex when it comes to her. You’re both screwed up but that still doesn’t mean you can’t fuck her.”

Cappy moved into Talon’s space and forced his clenched fists to stay at his sides. “Get out of my face and to the hospital before I break something for real. Capisce? Call me when you’re done. I’ll have a list for you by then.”

“Check, sir.”

Talon strode around Cappy, grazing his shoulder as he passed. It wasn’t a full-out challenge but a message. Cappy watched him disappear around the corner. If that man didn’t straighten up soon, he might just have to send a message of his own—one with no hint of subtlety.

He gazed up at the blazing pink and orange clouds as the sun disappeared from the sky. The taste of what her therapy sessions must have been like as she battled the PTSD soured in his mouth. Shit.

How could he have been so callous all these years and not even tried to find her, to check up on her even if it was from a distance? You know why, his mind answered, zeroing in on the instant connection he had felt the second he broke into that room. He wouldn’t’ve been able to keep himself on the perimeter. The temptation to touch her, talk to her, be with her would’ve been too much.

SBG operatives were not allowed to have personal lives.
