To Mate an Assassin CoverSynopsis: Love is her enemy…until his beast sets her free.

Cymbeline Kendall’s life is quiet, solitary—until a letter appears in her P.O. box. Then she becomes an Incendiary, a human chosen at birth to be trained to strike like lightning to take out the most dangerous of the Werekind, then fade back into the shadows.

She is a weapon only to be used by the leader of North American shifters. But when she learns the Alphar was unseated three years ago, she sets out to find who’s been pulling her trigger.

Kerrick Masterson has borne the burden of leadership for only a short time, yet he already feels the Alphar power tempting his soul toward the insanity that destroyed his predecessor. He has no time for the woman who breaks into his compound claiming to be his Incendiary, but his beast insists he make the time—for his mate.

In one searing, soul-consuming breath, everything Cymbeline was taught to believe is ripped away. Yet the mystery of who’s been sending her orders remains…and finding the answer could lead to all-out war.

Warning: Contains an assassin who doesn’t tolerate those who hurt the weak, and a shifter leader determined to unlock his new mate’s repressed emotions—even if that puts his balls at risk. Explicit sex, violence, and references to abuse that could be rough on sensitive readers.

About Ceri Grenelle

Ceri GrenelleI’ve always had an active imagination. An imagination that usually took form in the way of zoning out in the middle of conversations. I eventually decided it was time to share my daydreaming with the world and began to put my musings on paper. It started with Harry Potter fanfiction and grew from there.

I am currently living it up in Northern California after a big move from New York City. And by living it up I mean staying home with my cats, obsessively watching episodes of my favorite TV shows, all of which are extremely geeky, and simultaneously reading the next book on my reading list. I do all this while trying not to pig out on unhealthy snacks. As you can tell, I lead a busy life.

Review: Irons by M.J. Fields @mjfieldsbooks

22572861Title: IRONS (Norfolk, #1)

Author: M.J. Fields

Release Date: August 10, 2014

Amazon US:

Amazon UK:

I was born and bred to be the man I am today. My father and his father were both graduates from The United States Naval Academy in Annapolis. Both went on to become helicopter pilots. Both had seen plenty of action. Both had met and caused devastation. Both men, who I respect more above all, had served and protected the United States and her people honorably for decades.

My best friend, William Cruz, who attended the academy with me, had flown beside me, had lived the same life as I had and shared the same ambitions in life, was gone now. This was not part of the plan. Will and I were supposed to have each other’s backs, support each other and never let anything supersede our bond.

I sat on Norfolk Beach needing to feel close to him on the anniversary of his death. It was a beautiful day in May and I was cutting class. I had done the same every year since he passed.

Jaxson Irons was only supposed to be in Pensacola for a year. But now three years later I still hadn’t heard from him.

I saw a man running down the beach and I knew immediately who it was.

Jaxson didn’t respond the way I had dreamed he would. He told me we would catch up someday soon. I stood and watched until he was gone.

Thump, thump. I placed my hand on my chest as I felt my heart beat again for what felt like the first time in three years. Thump, thump. I felt the blood moving quickly through my body. It’s heat once again present. Thump, thump. I looked up at the sky and let out a breath. A breath that I had been holding forever. Thump, thump.

I felt tears fall down my face as I raised my hands in the air and laughed out loud. Just then the clouds parted for the first time in forever. I saw the sun smiling down on me.

Irons is a thrilling, suspenseful, and oh so sexy romance novel.  It will leave you on the edge of the seat from beginning to end.  As soon as you are finished you will crave the next story.  Fortunately,, ladies and gents, that story is out now.  We will have a review for Irons 2 and Irons 3 coming up this week.  This is a trilogy that you will not want to forget to put on your must read list.

Jax Irons has lost his brother-in-arms.  Both being naval air pilots they became family and had each other’s back.  Than tragedy strikes and his best friend Will was killed while on a mission.  Now Jax is in town seeing Will’s family and being there for the funeral.

Frankie has loved her brother and stood by him no matter what.  She started loving Jax at the tender age of 12.  While he is at the funeral Frankie tells him her feelings, and Jax flat out rejects her.  Now the memory she has is the one kiss that she and Jax shared.

Jax disappeared from Frankie’s life for three years.  When she sees him on the beach, again he rejects her.  Jax has spent the last three years finding comfort in other women’s arms.  When a opportunity comes along for Frankie to move on, Jax realizes that he either loses Frankie or claim what his his.  But there are people that want to destroy their love.  And Frankie wants to keep their relationship a secret.

Irons is about politics and power.  It is also about what lengths you would go to protect the person you love.  The story is so high in emotions that you are left having a book hangover, but you just crave to see where the next story will come along.

I love the characters.  Frankie has experienced so much darkness in her life.  She shows her emotions and feels fully.  Will’s death has turned her upside down, and she needs friends to help pick her up.  These are the men that Will trusted the most.  I loved how protective they were of Frankie and of Jax.

Take a chance on Irons.  You won’t regret a moment of it.  Just beware to give yourself time to read since you will not want to put this book down until the end.

Happy Reading!!

Add to goodreads –

Love Resisted is Sophie’s and Saul’s story.  The title fit the story line perfectly since both characters spent a lifetime resisting love.   Love Resisted is about letting go of demons, allowing yourself to open to love, and finding freedom in the arms of friends.  The story is engaging and brings you to the point of excitement to see how Dane’s story will come out.  We see more of the cast from Love Reflected.  I suggest you read Love Reflected prior to reading Marie’s newest novel.

In Love Resisted readers gain a more intimate knowledge of Sophie.  As I read Love Reflected I felt that Sophie always was separated from the group.  She just seemed more unobtainable.  As I read Love Resisted I found that Sophie had a past that followed her everywhere she went.  She had a mom that used her, a deceased dad, and people who tried to control her.  She kept men on the side only hoping one day that the man she loved would return her feelings.  Rejection seemed to be the only thing this man returned.  It takes near tragedy for feelings to come forward, but now Sophie must be protected.

Saul has always had women hanging off his arms.  He hurt the girl that loved him by his constant rejection.  After reading about Saul’s upbringing I could understand why Saul felt that he was not good for anything serious.  His mother told him that on a constant basis.  She was critical, emotionally aloof, and abusive in her words.  She literally broke Saul.

What I loved about the characters spotlighted in Love Resisted is the fact that they became each others teacher in love.  What one lacked the other worked to overcome.  It was a teeter totter of balance, and having each others back no one feel off.  Saul changed in the book.  He became the strong protector.  He turned to his family of friends and allowed them to have his back.  Saul also got to see what having a family was like.  The person that Saul had the hardest time with in the beginning ended up being the person he turned to in the end.  This posse broken by pasts became a united from when it came to helping one of their own.  It is like my son says when he told me that family is not only blood, it is those that are the most loyal to you in good times and bad times.  That describes Love Reflected and the group of characters that reside in that story.

Love Resisted is a great book.  It deserves the accolades of being known for it’s use of friends being family and protecting each other.  I highly recommend this series, and I recommend you catch up before Dane’s story comes out.  Dane’s story is going to be quite explosive.

Review: Red Card by Liz Crowe @beerwencha2

RedCardCoverTitle: Red Card (Black Jack Gentlemen #2)

Author: Liz Crowe

Release Date: August 14, 2013

Free will makes us human.

Choice makes us individuals.

Love makes us unique.

Metin Sevim has it all. At the pinnacle of international soccer playing success, he has managed to craft a perfect world for himself along the way.

When fate strips him of free will and the ability to choose his own path, he retreats from everyone and everything, destroying his hard-won career in the process.

Dragged back from the brink by his desperate family, Metin reluctantly agrees to coach the Black Jack Gentlemen Detroit soccer team but remains debilitated by memories and loss. When a surprising friendship emerges, it renews his passion for life, providing much needed solace… and extreme complications.

A saga of family dynamics and gender politics that cuts across cultures and circumstance, Red Card illustrates the human capacity for forgiveness through the life of one man as he attempts to rebuild his shattered existence

The Black Jack Gentlemen series holds it own with each novel being totally unique from each other.  I believe that is why this series is such a hit.  You never know what you are going to get.  It is a story based upon soccer players.  If soccer isn’t your sport don’t worry you will still love the story line.  In Red Card we meet Metin, Alicia, and Mel.

Let’s start off with Mel and Alicia.  They are sisters, but the role they play in each other’s life is much more.  Mel has taken on a motherly type to Alicia; making sure she is raised to be independent and happy.  Trying to make her own mark in life has brought Mel to the point of pure bitterness.  She is a single mother to two children-one being a disgruntled teenager.  Caring for her family is what keeps Mel from totally losing it.  That is when Metin comes into the picture.

Metin is this turkish soccer player who defines the term player.  While he likes to sow his wild oats, he keeps his emotions on his sleeve.  Let’s just say he is attracted to Alicia, but him and Mel do not hit it off.  Their discord for each other is extremely explosive.  I do not mean that in the good way.  Mel just wanted what was best for Alicia.  Unfortunately, Mel was thinking more of what she thought Alicia needed instead of what Alicia thought she needed.  This caused some major conflict in this once tight-knit family.

Years pass as well as life changing moments that divide this unique family.  For the patriarch of Mel and Alicia it was realization of what he put his oldest daughter through and how tough he made it on the pair.  How can you provide balm to a family that is destroyed by loss, by anger, by bitterness.

Red Card represents family.  The loyalty and love of those who you hold dear to you.  It is also about second chances and maybe third chances as well.  As a reader, I wanted to see Mel lose her bitterness.  She had the potential to provide so much love but she allowed the errors of those who wronged her stand in her way.  It was heartbreaking to read about.  When the family dynamic kept changing, Mel held onto to every bit she could to handle these changes.  You could tell it was too much for her.

My favorite part was watching  Metin’s family and Alicia and Mel’s father stand up and take a stand.  Here was a chance to unite instead of dividing and the family was not going to let that happen.

I will tell you as well that you definitely will need Kleenex at several points of the story.   My heart shattered several times watching the events enfold before my eyes.  Liz Crowe has created a story that we could relate to as well as fall in love with the characters.  The betrayal, the hurt, could be felt into the reader’s soul.  Than as the story finishes you just are left wanting to weep for such a twist in events.  It is an amazing conclusion to a story that will pierce your heart and very soul.

Review: Gypsy Beach by Jillian Neal @JillianNealAuth

GypsyBeach_bannerGypsy Beach
by Jillian Neal

Releasing: June 23, 2015

Gypsy BeachGypsy Beach

Single father, Ryan McNamara, returns to the only place he’d ever been happy, Gypsy Beach. This time he’s divorced, broken, but determined to make something of his life. Sienna Cooper is determined to forget Ryan, the last decade, and all of the hurt he’d left her with. She’s got enough spunk and gypsy fire in her soul to make this work. She’s going to run her grandmother’s inn and make it a success. But when a chance encounter throws them back together, the passions ignite and the past doesn’t feel so far out of reach. Can they rekindle the love they’d once had? Can he convince her that he never intends to walk away again? Will a potent dose of unending lust, a lifetime of love, and enough hot-blooded Gypsy spirit be enough to save them both?

What is most enjoyable about Jillian Neal’s writing is her ability to create relatable characters that possess a depth of meaning to the reader.  There is never a book that I left reading by Jillian that I did not once carry a smile and a message from.  Jillian Neal just has that certain talent to entertain and give back to the readers.  That is why she rates high on my favorite authors’ list.

Gypsy Beach is about coming home.  It is about starting over and receiving forgiveness and redemption.  It is about reaching out a hand to others in need.  For the townspeople of Gypsy Beach they always had each other’s back.  If one person was in need the town banded together.

Ryan was a a young man that fell in love with a gypsy’s granddaughter, Sienna.  When one summer Ryan never shows up to Gypsy Beach as he promised Sienna, life starts to move on and Sienna runs from the town full of memories.

Ten years later and Sienna returns to Gypsy Beach to fix up her deceased grandmother’s inn.  Suddenly, Ryan shows up to be her contractor.  Pasts will try to pull them apart again, and it is up to Sienna and Ryan to band together and fight through all the tribulations that they go through.  Can Ryan and Sienna whether the storm?

I love the story line of teenage sweethearts being reunited.  Gypsy Beach builds up to the next story that you will definitely want to keep a watch out for.  Jillian’s newest novel is a great start for this beach town series.  The characters we come to meet are relatable and enjoyable to read about.  Each person holds in their nightmares and I truly believe Gypsy Beach becomes a place to heal old wounds.  The freedom this town brings to the wanderer makes you remember that home is always where the heart is.  For the gypsy’s and visitors of Gypsy Beach this town is the home and heart of a broken soul.  Isn’t that a place you would love to spend time in?

Enjoy the rich history, the loyalty of the town old timers, and a place to rest your head.  Happy Reading!!

She had her head thrown back laughing as she raced across the wet sand. The setting sun lit the wildfire in her eyes, and Ryan would’ve followed her anywhere. The warm, foamy saltwater lapped at her toes, as anxious to touch some part of her beautiful body as he was. Launching himself forward, every muscle in his body propelled him towards her. He caught her hand and then leaned to scoop up her lithe form into his arms.

Every patch of her silky skin that connected with his sent a spark of electricity straight to his groin. His heart raced, but he kept running with her. Running away, maybe.

With a delighted squeal, she leaned in and clung tightly to his neck. Her long, thick hair, the color of black coffee with caramel and blonde ribbons spun through it from their summer in the sun, cascaded out over his left bicep, flying behind them as he raced her down the shores of Gypsy Beach. Her hazel eyes danced just for him.

Everything about her was a juxtaposition, as if she was in constant contention with herself. Wild, free, and living on the edge of an impulse that made his entire world spin. Every single thing about Sienna Cooper was perfect by his seventeen-year-old estimations.

“Stop running and put me down so I can kiss you, Ryan McNamara!” Her laughter and her order whipped around him in the salt-soaked wind, stirring and igniting every cell in his body.

“Yes, ma’am.” He set her on her feet and wasted no time mating their mouths. She was so sweet it was sinful, like spun sugar that melted in his arms. He’d fallen in love with her two summers before and spent every school year longing to get back to Gypsy Beach and back to Sienna.

His lips kept hers occupied while his hands tracked down her slender sides and then dipped into that bikini bottom that had been driving him to distraction all damn day. He cupped her backside, and when that simply wasn’t enough he kneaded her with greed.

A timid moan reverberated against his tongue as he slipped it between her lips, memorizing the heat, the way they swelled, the way they tasted, and the all-encompassing feeling of her body needy for him. That moment would have to last him until next summer.

Unable to stop himself, his right hand traversed the short distance from her sweet little backside to the perfect patch of skin between her thighs. She trembled, and her body rolled against his. He almost lost it all there on the deserted beach.

Her mound quaked as his thumb hesitantly explored. Her breath tangled in her throat, and her eyes closed in expectant ecstasy. He could feel the tender heat and the liquid desire gathering in preparation for him, and that night he was going to make a claim. They would be each other’s firsts, each other’s only if he had anything to say about it. He’d unite them in time and space, and it would be enough to get him through the next nine months of school five states away. It had to be enough.

“I love you Sienna Rose, and, God, baby, I need you. Before we have to leave tomorrow, I just need you. Stay with me tonight.”

With that sexy smirk and the fire that lived inside of her that always seemed to consume both of their souls, she followed him inside his parents’ beach house.

Review: Man On by Liz Crowe @beerwencha2

ManOnCoverTitle: Man On (Black Jack Gentleman 1)

Author: Liz Crowe

Release Date: August 10, 2013

Bad boy of European football, Nicolas Garza is about to hit American shores with a vengeance. Signed by the Detroit Black Jack Gentlemen as lynch pin for their expansion club, Nicco only half believes he’s making the right move. But with a past full of ghosts and rotten behavior chasing him from his homeland, he has no real choice.

Parker Rollings is a college soccer superstar, but his parents’ plans for their only son do not include professional athletics. When the Black Jacks approach him to finalize their roster, Parker leaps at the chance to keep playing, leaving behind medical school, stability and his first and only college sweetheart.

Nicco and Parker face off as bitter rivals for a coveted starting spot at midfield and are forced to channel their negative energy into something positive for the sake of the group—and themselves.

All eyes are on the fledgling team in its debut season. It’s crucial that the Black Jacks prove all the doubters wrong. They must make a good showing in the league and with new fans. But player drama, club dynamics, and misplaced priorities may tear it apart before it even begins.

I love Liz Crowe’s Black Jack Gentlemen Soccer Team series.  Man On is the first in series, and is the most unique novel.  The series is mainly f/m, but Man On is m/m focused.  It contains a story of two men in a mainly heterosexual sport that are hiding their desire to claim their true self.  They keep their gender preferences secret, and use women to show the media someone different than who they truly are.

Nico Garza comes to Michigan from playing in Europe.  He is tainted by bad press as well as losing someone he truly loved in a tragic death.  He is a huge headache for this American team. He is angry, bitter, and acts entitled.  He also has a series problem that keeps getting him in trouble.

Parker Rollings lived this perfect life.  He had the perfect girlfriend, perfect college career, and was slated to go to medical school.  But life for him was not really that great.  Parker just wanted to play soccer.  He also questioned a huge part of himself and his life.  He knew if he exposed a part of his desires that it would destroy any strings left between him and his family.  They would forever disown him.  Parker was at a fork in the road.  It was up to him to figure the direction he was to take.

Parker and Nico come together to fight for the same position in the team.  They are heavily attracted to each other but deny their feelings.  For the first time Nico just wants to be transparent.  That includes being open about himself with the media as well as one Parker Rollings.

There is a lot of angst in the story before you ever find out if there could be a happily-ever-after.  Each character has to go through personal searches to figure out their own true identity.  Nico needed to conquer his addictions and demons before he could ever find love.  Parker, on the other hand, has a choice to find out where his attractions laid.  He could choose forever or keep on the path of unhappiness.

Man On shows the steps that each character took to find themselves.  Reading Man On was almost like peering into the lives of true characters dealing with real life situations.  Life could teach these two men to work together or be separated by outside pressures.  I found it intriguing to see their thought processes on the dilemmas they experiences.

If you like a story on finding your true self than Man On is the one for you.

Happy Reading!!!

Review + Giveaway: Shelby by Kemmie Michaels Release Blitz @KemmieM

shelby2Book: SHELBY

Series: A Second Chance Novel

Author: Kemmie Michaels

Genre: Adult Romantic Suspense

Cover Designer: Robin Ludwig Designs, Inc

Hosted By: Francessca’s Romance Reviews

*Intended for an adult audience*

Shelby Keene has lost touch…with her friends, her job, and even herself. She is swept along by life happening around her, until danger forces her further into a wild current beyond her control.

Even in the most dire of circumstance, a chance at love may redeem past mistakes and protect her from the terrifying threats against her.

Shelby is the story we all have been waiting for.  The anxiety of hearing her voice after the cheating and dismal by the so called friends.  Shelby deserved to get her say and express the hurt and anger caused by the people who supposedly had her back.  Let’s just say Shelby far surpasses the expectation I had for this highly anticipated novel.  It is my favorite from the whole series.  I am sad to know that Kemmie has closed this chapter, but Shelby is quite the way to end a fantastic series.

Shelby has been wronged and is hurting.  She expresses herself by hacking, one-night stands, and hopping bar to bar.  When she enters a particular seedy bar one night she meets the first man who denies her.  Angry, Shelby attempts to prove to him and herself that she is wanted and desirable.  Unfortunately, Shelby is spiraling down hill and there is no one to pick her up.  At least that is what she thinks.

Danger is lurking around Shelby and she doesn’t know who to trust.  Betrayal has been given to her at every angle.  Will love redeem Shelby’s belief in a happily-ever-after?

I will tell you that Kemmie’s latest novel is extremely intense.  There is so much energy from beginning to end.  The emotions in the book are extreme.  Everything from anger to sadness are felt high off the charts.  I also loved the thrill of action and the mystery.  There is a taste of a who-done-it throughout the book.  The passion and chemistry is sizzling.  Even when the characters fought the attraction, you could still tell it was there.  The only aspect that I wish I could have seen was how the friend’s may have reacted from Shelby being out of the picture.  To be honest, I kind of wanted to see them suffer.

Shelby’s story provides readers with a new set of characters.  I actually loved these much better than the characters in the other books.  To me Shelby provides a cast that was more real to me and more true than we get to see other people that used Shelby and forgot about her.  I wanted and craved a story that Shelby could become number one for once.  Read Shelby and you will find out if that comes to true or not.  You won’t be disappointed.  And Shelby is definitely worth spending a lazy day drinking lemonade and reading of a woman who deserves a second chance at love.

Kemmi-AuthorMother of Two Boys…

My husband and I have been married for 17 years and are blessed with two amazing young men. They are 10 and 12 right now, and both are on very different parts of the autism spectrum. I’ve learned so much being their mom and I feel pretty lucky to have become part of a community of loving, understanding people.
If you’d like to meet my oldest son, watch Big Bang Theory and shake hands with Sheldon. Those two are so similar, straight down to the fake laugh when they recognize something is funny.

My youngest cannot be explained. He’s more of an experience, and a joyful one at that.
Romance Novelist…

I’ve always loved to write. I’ve written for newspapers and magazines, also a host of personal projects. Then in December of 2012 I was reading on my first Kindle, gobbling up romances left and right. That’s when I fell in love with Ethan Blackstone, by the way.

I was inspired to sit down and write. Less than one year later I’ve published three books, written another and its sequel novella, and started on two more. Another series popped into my head, as well. Now as of August of 2014, I’m on the verge of publishing book six, with at least five started or specifically planned. Since I’m sure I won’t update this bio for a long time, you’ll have to rely on my Facebook updates to know what’s going on with Kemmie Michaels romances. Well, there you have it. Shelby’s in a corset. I simply shake my head, wondering what lies on the ladder-rung below this one. I’ve been watching her long before I needed to start surveillance, and I saw her step steadily down one tiny notch at a time since I was assigned her case those few months ago. Watching isn’t stalking if I’m her assigned guardian angel, right? I shake my head at myself again. Since then, she’s gone from sweet and almost virginal to coming to bars like a walking train wreck.

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Date of Publication: 6.12.15

ISBN: 978-0-9912045-8-8

ASIN: Available on release day

Number of pages: 450

Word Count: 141,298

Book Description:

Regret, betrayal, kidnapping, loss, madness, abuse, passion, love.

In this modern retelling of Hansel and Gretel, thirteen-year-old foster children Griselda and Holden escape from their abductor after three years of brutal captivity, and try to cross the Shenandoah River on foot. Tragically, one of them makes it to safety, but the other is left behind.

Ten years later, Griselda’s boyfriend drags her to a fight club grudge match, and her world is turned upside down when she watches Holden step into the ring.

Though the connection between them is fierce, bitter regret, simmering rage, and a tangle of physical and emotional scars lie between them, just as dangerous as the white water of the Shenandoah.

Never Let You Go is a story of fear and hope, defeat and survival, and two people—once profoundly broken—who discover that love is the only thing that can make them whole again.

Katy Regnery has written a fantastic modern day version of Hansel and Gretel.  The fairy tale originated from Germany, and was recorded and published in 1812 by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm.  Through the years we have seen many versions of the story come to live-including the opera version composed by  Engelbert Humperdinck. Katy brings Hansel and Gretel into the now by taking a story told through time and creating similarities between the children Hansel and Gretel and Griselda and Holden.  The biggest difference between the two tales is that Griselda and Holden are not related but are foster brother and sister.
Never Let You Go surpasses my wildest dreams in how Katy took a story over 200 years old and made it endearing, engaging, and containing the most tender of moments.  In fact, I was hooked at the beginning of the story until the end.  I read it in one sitting.  I was so excited to read Never Let You Go that I got up at three a.m. and read until I was finished.  There was even major Kleenex usage.
As children Holden and Griselda spent torturous years being imprisoned by a man who believed that he needed to expunge sin from them.  There was a sense of eeriness as the story is being told on what was happening to young Holden and Griselda.  As time passed in this person Holden and Griselda became each others constant.  The love that grew between them was one that very little could ever imagine.  As a failed attempt of escape happens, Griselda and Holden are separated thinking that each other is lost.  Griselda holds on to guilt and regret, but never loses hope that she will find her other half.
Griselda spent her life punishing herself.  She stayed in an abusive relationship believing she deserved no better because she failed Holden.  Her boyfriend takes her to a fight near where the kidnapping happens and in a moment Griselda world takes a spin on it’s axel.  She spot boy turned man Holden.  Who just happens to be one of the fighters of the night.
There were so many parts to the story that just had my head spinning and my heart swooning.  First, after reuniting both Holden and Griselda acknowledge that the love that they shared was never ending and only eternal.  As the story progresses you just new that no matter the trials they were meant to be together.  But for these two soulmates nothing comes easy and only time will tell if uniting is in the cards for Griselda and Holden.
I believe the part of the story that had me in tears was when a verse about what love is gets told to each other.  It was the perfect addition to two people who defined the true meaning of both friends and partners.  Griselda and Holden had each other’s back no matter the obstacle.
As in the original story of Hansel and Gretel, the breadcrumbs that led Griselda and Holden back to each other was love, friendship, loyalty, fate, and never-ending hope.  Never Let You Go is about hanging on to people who love you no matter the trials as well never losing hope in a glorious future.  Never Let You Go is a repeat read as far as I am concerned.
I hope you find Never Let You Go as thrilling and endearing as I did.  Katy has a whole series of modern day fairy tales that she is coming out with.  I can’t wait to see what is on the future for her ability to take century old stories and make them modern version.

Sexy woman with beautiful eyesDiana was late again. Lucy had told her to meet at the coffee shop at 7:15; Tom had gone in early to prepare for a deposition, so he couldn’t catch her talking with her sister. Diana had promised to be there with bells on, hinting mysteriously at some juicy gossip.

But, as usual, even though Lucy had called and left a reminder on voice mail, Diana couldn’t be bothered to show up on time. Lucy had skimmed the paper, reviewed her schedule, made notes on a contract she was revising, and read the next chapter in her mystery – and Diana still hadn’t waltzed in the door.

The customer in the next booth was drinking such strong coffee that Lucy was starting to feel sick. Sick was good, she reminded herself. The waistband on her skirt digging into her skin was good. Crying over Titanic with Julie Saturday night was good. But the coffee – if Diana didn’t get here soon, her anxiety was going to ensure that the coffee was not good.

Five minutes before the deadline she’d given herself for leaving, Diana came rushing in.

“I know I’m late, Luce, I’m sorry.” How many times had she heard this in her life? Diana looked flushed this morning, but not as hung over as usual for Monday, and she slid into the booth with more energy than Lucy had seen her exhibit in a long time. “How are you doing this morning? Things okay? You sounded so secretive last night—”

Lucy reached out, took her sister’s hand, and shoved Diana’s jacket sleeve away from her wrist.

Silence between them. She must have sliced herself up royally; the bandage covered more area than the last time. Well, that explained Richard’s cryptic requirement for the negotiations. He’d known already that Diana had tried to kill herself again, so this must have happened before he’d left with his mystery woman on Friday night.

She stared at her sister. Diana stared back until her lashes flickered, and she pulled her hand away and reached for a menu.

“What happened?” Lucy couldn’t believe how calm her voice was. She felt anything but calm. Richard had known. Tom must have known. Certainly Diana had known! And not one of them had bothered to tell her. She was getting tired of everyone sheltering her as if she were made of glass. Diana was her problem to deal with. “When?”

“Friday,” muttered Diana. “Will it make you sick if I get fried eggs?”

“Yes,” said Lucy. “When Friday?”

Diana was studying the menu religiously. “I’m thinking pancakes then, or waffles. Those shouldn’t bother you. And OJ instead of coffee—”

Lucy jerked the menu away from her. “Forget food, Di. What happened?”

“Oh, honestly!” Diana yanked the menu back. “Stop obsessing about it! Friday, okay? I was at Daddy’s with Laurie, and—”

Lucy felt herself about to become seriously unglued. “What do you mean, Laurie? What was she doing over there?”

“Waffles and OJ,” Diana said to the waitress. “And a side of bacon and biscuits. Thanks.” She made a production of putting the menu back in its holder while Lucy sat there fuming. Then she settled back against the seat, clasped her hands in front of her, and gave Lucy a look that promised to be open and honest and was anything but. “She came over to help me clean. Oh, did I tell you, we found those checks you’ve been looking for?”

Handsome mid-adult man portrait

Inside, the cool air brushed their faces. Laura pushed the subpoena towards Richard and set a late-night dinner out for Max before her cat could deposit the rest of his fur on Richard’s suit. He worked beside her, setting the kettle on for her tea, measuring the ground beans into the coffee maker, pulling down mugs from the cupboard. How comfortable it felt, the two of them, working side by side, performing these small domestic tasks – no, she wasn’t going to succumb to what-might-have-been. The subpoena had been a rude awakening. Eleven years of separation or not, Richard still had a wife with an interest in his past and a desire for revenge.

And she not only knew about that past now, but she had the most compelling evidence of all in her daughter.

She heard herself say, “I don’t have any papers. Why does Di think I do?”

Richard carried his coffee over to the trestle table and held out a chair for her. “Actually,” he said when she sat down, “you may have something and you don’t know it.”

“I don’t have anything,” said Laura. “If you’re thinking about those tapes—” Francie’s foray into the world of erotic fiction. She shuddered. “All her stuff is in storage. I can’t imagine those tapes would be good after all these years.”

“Not the tapes.” He shook his head. “I got rid of those years ago. No, what you may have is a burgundy book with gold lettering on the front – it’s her flight log, and I signed and dated every lesson as her instructor. It completely slipped my mind until I was filling out my flight log yesterday. I’m certain she took it with her. No one ever mentioned it. Did you see something like that?” He looked at her and exhaled. “Yes, I see you did.”

She’d seen that book every weekend during the final spring of Francie’s life. “Cam signed it when he gave her lessons in ’91. I know exactly where it is.” From the look on his face, that was not welcome news. “But it’s okay, really it is! It’s in storage with the rest of her stuff.”

“That doesn’t matter,” Richard said flatly. “Read the wording. If it’s in your control—”

She touched his arm. “But it’s not, that’s just it! After—” she took a breath and plunged ahead as his eyes shadowed— “after Francie died, I was sick for a while, so Cam had his admin pack up her stuff and rent a storage space. I never had the key. He always kept it in his desk drawer. Everything is probably still there – I’m certain he never gave it another thought.”

He drew a breath and said patiently, “You don’t understand. You’re his heir, so I assume you inherited the furniture. That’s what this whole brouhaha about the piano is about, isn’t it? That means the desk, and its drawers, and its contents, belong to you. So, yes, you do control it.” She started to speak, and he overrode her. “Listen, Laura, I’m no lawyer, but I’ve dealt with subpoenas for years. Architects get dragged into lawsuits all the time. You may be a thousand miles away, but the desk and its contents are still in your control.”

“But that’s it, Richard!” She smiled triumphantly. “I wrote an email tonight giving Mark the desk. I thought it was his all along. It belonged to their father at the bank. How was I to know? I haven’t thought about that key for years. Mark wrote me this plaintive email about how I could take every stick of furniture and would I please let him keep that one thing – why are you laughing?”

“Oh, God.” He covered his eyes with his hand. “I can just imagine Kevin Stone’s reaction to the timing of your transfer of that desk. Well, here’s the good news. On the face of it – my signing that flight log was no more incriminating than your husband signing it. It links her to me, but it doesn’t matter anyway, because you’re not going to testify.”

He acted as if he had a magic wand to make it all disappear. “Lucy said she couldn’t help me, since she’s your lawyer. So she’s going to talk to a friend of hers and see if he’ll represent me.”

He nodded. “She told me. It’s fine that you’re getting a lawyer, but I promise you that you won’t need one.”

Laura was getting tired of those words. “You keep saying that. How can you make this go away?”

Richard reached into his briefcase, pulled out a blue-backed sheaf of papers, and put it in her hands.

“I filed for divorce this afternoon,” he said. “Diana was served at the Tavern this evening.”

If he’d meant to knock the breath out of her, he succeeded. She stared at him in shock. She must have imagined his words; he hadn’t said what she thought she’d heard. He hadn’t stepped off the precipice so abruptly; he hadn’t tossed away eighteen years of marriage – miserable years, but, still, eighteen – for her. He hadn’t decided to cut the love of his life out of his life for her.

But he had. He’d laid the petition in her hands in the same way that Max liked to bring her his dead bug trophies. Maybe, she thought hysterically, he wanted her to pat him on the head and tell him what a good boy he was.

He was divorcing Diana.

“Why?” she whispered.

He paused for a moment. “It’s time.”

She nodded, dazed, and looked down at the petition. Richard Patrick Ashmore, Complainant, vs. Diana Renée Abbott Ashmore, Defendant…. Plain words on a paper. Eighteen years of marriage, the end of the fairy tale, right here in her hand. She bit her lip and felt tears bathing her eyes. Stupid to cry, she hadn’t even cried when the FedEx package had arrived in London with Cam’s divorce petition, but no fairy tale had ended there. No Prince Charming had danced with his Sleeping Beauty at City Hall in San Francisco.

She paged through the petition, unseeing. He said nothing, he justified nothing. He merely waited while she absorbed the reality that in her hands lay the end of one dream and – no, she wouldn’t think it, wouldn’t wonder if it could be the beginning of another. This was a tragedy. Two people who’d been in love beyond all thought were finally admitting that their love had come up short, that they hadn’t well lost the world for each other.

I had it all: an adoring husband, supportive friends, thriving career, a homey condo in the city.

Amend that.

I had it all except for love from my family. But life was good because I had him. Max was everything I dreamed a husband could be and somehow he loved me just as wildly as I loved him.

Until one cruel night he was stolen from me.

Then I had nothing but a vicious battle ahead of me. It’s a struggle so treacherous, I’m not sure if I’ll make it out with my heart in tact. But on the other side of that brutal war waits the most wondrous prize.

Will I allow myself to move forward?

I absolutely am a fan of Olivia Luck’s novels.  Olivia never disappoints entertaining readers while providing depth to her stories.  Point of No Return is no different.  Everything is a home-from the characters to the storyline- readers will leave Point of No Return satisfied and swooning for a sexy hockey player and a beautiful event planner.  All of Olivia’s novels are repeat readers.  Every time I reread a book of Olivia’s I pick up something new.

Cam is a star hockey player not looking to settle down.  That is until one night he notices a beautiful woman with auburn hair.  Unfortunately for Cam this stranger is getting proposed to.  Fate brings this woman in and out of his life for years.

Violet had a job, a husband, a life that surpassed all of her dreams.  As a wife of a firefighter Violet knew the dangers of the job.  She never expected it to be her.  Than one night life crumbles as two men appear at the door telling Violet about the passing of her husband.  Life stands still at this point.

As time passes family members encourage Violet to start looking at recreating her life again.  Violet has been in mourning for too long and she need to live.  She takes on an opportunity for the hockey team as an event planner, and that throws her in the path of one sexy Cam.  Cam is determined to wait his time to make Violet his.  Will Violet every let go of her grief in order to find love again?

I love seeing the characters from previous stories in Point of No Return.  We get to see a more intimate knowledge of Violet, especially the animosity that occurred in the previous books between her and her husband’s twin, Dominic.  The characters become a part of her soul and we mourn and sympathy for the loss Violet experienced.  Olivia writes so eloquently of the stages of grief that Violet went through before she even saw the light at the end of the tunnel.  Readers can relate to Violet.  It is easy to feel her pain, and when she finds joy you will want to rejoice with Violet.  I left Point of No Return wanting to go right back and reread it again.  In fact, I am reading it for the second time now.

The story line was so cathartic for me.  The emotions that Olivia pulls from the reader is a talent that sets her at the top of her writing.  Olivia has quite a knack for being able to create characters that we invite into our lives for the time that we hear their voice and read their story.  In addition, being able to reminiscence from the other characters is also included in each new novel.

I highly recommend any of Olivia Luck’s novels.  As far as Point of No Return, there is no rating that can express my feelings for how great this story is.

Happy Reading!!  Grab a Kleenex and hug your loved ones after reading Point of No Return..

Point of No Return Excerpt

Prologue – His

We cruise through Standard like we own the place because, fuck it, we practically do. Three first-line players and the goalie from the Chicago Scrapers, the city’s only professional hockey team, are kings in this town. When Lars swaggered to the host stand at a restaurant known for only allowing reservations three months out and requested a table, the verbose host seated us without delay. Now circling the wood table and waiting for our steaks to arrive, my teammates and I survey the dimly lit dining room.

“Bar 312 tonight, gentlemen,” Tomas drawls after swallowing a mouthful of the whiskey I got him drinking when we played together in Toronto a few years back.

None of us are attached, spending most nights out of the hockey rink together making our way through the city’s most popular haunts. We’re free to do what we want, when we want, so long as it doesn’t conflict with our job.

“Weren’t we there over the weekend? Could get stale,” I say.

I dangle a tumbler of amber liquid in my hand, watching Standard’s host make his rounds among the clientele. His name’s Paul? Patrick? Something like that. Considering I’ve been to Standard no less than eight times, you’d think I’d know the name of the gatekeeper who runs this place.

“Doesn’t matter when we went there last; the place is wall-to-wall beautiful women. Are you looking for something else? Boystown’s up north, dude,” Tucker goads from my left.

“What was that, rookie?” With a half smirk, I don’t offer Tucker any further attention. Drafted for the incoming season, Coach asked me to take the hotshot rightwing under my tutelage. Responsibilities like this are expected of the assistant captain.

I don’t hear whatever Tucker says in response because something else has captured my attention.

Dark auburn hair curling around slim shoulders like a heavy curtain, thick eyelashes framing deep blue eyes filled with….tears? Milky white hands press to cheeks with a dusky blush, mouth open in surprise.

Fuck me. She’s stunning.

Before I can come up with a game plan to get this woman into bed, a single tear catches the candlelight and glimmers on her cheek, jerking me back to reality. It’s then that I realize there’s a man on bended knee before her.

Only a few feet away on the hardwood floor, I’m able to make out his words. “Violet Harper, will you be my wife?” The dull roar of conversation, both at my table and winding throughout the restaurant, prevents me from hearing her response, but I’m able to read her lips well enough.

Me? she asks, surprise apparent across her gorgeous features.

The guy would be an idiot not to lock her down. She has that doe-eyed innocent look, but plump lips and a hint of cleavage that would knock any man right on his ass.

“There’s no one better than you, Violet,” the guy says. He hooks an arm around her tiny waist and yanks her onto his bended knee. Slim arms circle his neck as she stares down at him adoringly.

Do I want to be a one-woman man like that?

As quickly as the thought appears in my mind, I shove it away. Feeling like a voyeur, I attempt to turn my attention back to my teammates. But like being caught in the pull of a powerful magnet, my gaze powerlessly slides back to the couple.

“Put me out of my misery, babe. Say yes?” The guy actually looks nervous. Her answer is obvious, but she gushes out her assent. The guy launches to his feet with her still in his arms, locking her lips on his.

She never looked at the ring.

The majority of the women I hook up with want one thing: status. That means money or power—whatever I’ve got as one of the league’s best goalies. I’ll admit it, I’ve become a shred jaded, believing most women care more about my bank account and fame than the man I am. And now, here, to my surprise, a goddess looks more interested in the man than the sparkling stone in the velvet box tossed carelessly on the white tablecloth.

“Cam, are you listening?”

Shifting around in my seat, I focus on my friends. “Got to let the hens gossip,” I mutter. They’re passing around potatoes and mushrooms. Not even the scent of the broiled salmon (yeah, I’m in season and eating like my trainer wants to stay at the peak of my game) managed to distract me from the engagement going on a few feet from our table.

“Ladies and gentlemen, may I have your attention? Let’s all raise our glasses in a toast to one of Chicago’s finest. My boy, Max, a firefighter for you fine folks, just got engaged to his lovely girlfriend, Violet.” The host, whose name still escapes me, booms to every patron of Standard and cuts through our conversation. Now at least I have an excuse to stare at the woman. Violet. I savor her name, letting it roll around the deep recesses of my mind. I’d never go after a taken woman, but I can’t help but watch her with appreciation as she blushes, pressing her cheek into the neck of the firefighter boyfriend. Excuse me, fiancé.

Blowing away a hot breath, I force my head away from the scene. There’s a chant building steam, kiss, kiss, kiss, and I’m not willing to watch that. By now, the guys aren’t interested in razzing me further; they’re watching too, though not with the same rapt attention as me.

“Don’t you want to see the ring?” Firefighter says.

“Oh! That. I was lucky enough to have you,” her melodic voice responds.

Only then do I realize my hand is clenched in a fist on the tabletop, the tension bleaching my knuckles.

“Sucker,” Tucker mutters under his breath.

“Really? Seems pretty thrilled to me.” With a decisive slice from my cutlery, I swallow a bite of my fish.

Yeah, maybe I’ll settle down one day.

But not today.
