Prologue

Paige

My eyelids were weak and heavy. All I did now was sleep, but I was still too tired to wake up. I didn’t even remember how I got here.

It took a pathetic amount of strength to lift my head and glance over the tray of food. I wasn’t sure what time it was, but pretty sure it was late. Why they thought I wanted crackers now was beyond me. They can’t really expect me to eat, can they? Swallowing anything was torturous thanks to the deep open sores that trailed down my throat. Water burned, so the thought of eating anything was as appealing as chowing down on sandpaper—and would probably feel the same going down.

I curled into the fetal position as I shivered and rubbed at my skin to get warm and felt the pointy bone through the flesh of my arms. I reached for the covers and winced at the pain fingers as I gathered up the scratchy fabric and pulled it over my aching shoulders.

It hurt to move. It hurt to breathe. Most of all, it hurt to think.

The life I wanted, with the man I wanted, haunted my dreams.

You own me. Can’t you see that?

You’re mine. You’re everything.

I…can’t see my future with anyone else but you.

I finally found what I’d been looking for my entire life, but I couldn’t keep it.

The sound of voices yelling outside my hospital room snatched me out of my thoughts. I pushed myself up, panting at the exertion it took to sit upright. I leaned back on my elbows and my weak heart leaped in my chest when I recognized the voice causing all the commotion outside—the voice I’d know anywhere.

“I need to see her, please.”

Evan? No, no, no. I didn’t want him to see me like this. How did he find out I was here?

“I’m sorry, sir. Immediate family only. This is the ICU.”

“I’m not leaving. Paige? Daisy, it’s me!” My heavy head dropped to my hands. The sobs that ran through me made it difficult to breathe thanks to the oxygen tubes filtering through my nose. Pushing him away was the hardest thing I ever had to do, but I did it for him.

I didn’t want to let him go. I wanted him to hold me, tell me he loved me and know he would never leave me. I wanted that so fucking much it ached.

“Sir, please. She’s a very sick girl.”

In time, he’d see. He deserved someone who could give him a life, children, and a future. All things I can’t offer him, no matter how much I wished things were different. He deserved better than this, better than me.

The door was half closed but opened with such force that it banged into the wall and made me jump. Evan marched up to my bed and took my face in his hands. His hay colored eyes filled with tears as his hands shook.

“I love you, and I’m not going anywhere.” His voice quivered with emotion, but I wasn’t sure if it was sadness, rage, or a combination of the two.

“Now, you’re going to tell me exactly what’s going on. And why you lied to me—”

Review

Back To The Drawing Board is another hit by L.L. Collins.  The story if full of passion as well as a message that of priority in love and family.  It is full of second chances and reunions that will have tears squeaking out.  Readers will share laughter, tender moments, and most of all excitement of the greatest HEA.  You definitely are in store for one ride that you will never forget.

I would say for me I had two favorite parts to Back To The Drawing Board.  The first being the characters, and the second being the plot.  The main characters were ones that you could relate to as well as root for.  They both had best friends that just added for more depth to the story line.  The best friends were their go to buddies.  When Julia and Carter needed romance advice it was mainly the best friends that they went to.  I also liked the character of Carter’s dad.  Having him in the story and being present just added more to Carter’s character as well as the plot.

The plot was absolutely fantastic.  It contained several dilemmas that Carter and Julia had to go through to get to the final resolution.  The story was constantly hopping.  In fact, I was so enthralled with the story I read it in one sitting.  I have a preview of the Prologue that you will not want to miss.  It is fantastic.  It starts the story off with a bang and just goes up from there.

I highly recommend this story to fans of romance and happily-ever-afters.  I know I will reread it often as I just fell in love with all of the story elements.

Happy Reading!!

Prologue

Five years ago

“Hi, Carter. Can you talk? Because there are some things I need to talk to you about.” My mom’s voice sounded strained and upset. That wasn’t like her, so I was immediately on edge. I knew she was missing me and we hadn’t gotten to talk in the few weeks I’d been away at college. I felt bad about that, but we’d been playing phone tag.

“Of course, Mom. I’m driving home from the grocery store. Hayden and I decided we could no longer live on Ramen noodles and Doritos.” As much fun as I was having in college, hearing her voice made me homesick.

My mom laughed, so I figured whatever it was couldn’t be that bad and my unease lifted. “Yeah, that gets old after a while. You doing okay on money?”

I rolled my eyes, looking both ways as the light turned green. “Yes, I’m fine. You and Dad gave me plenty. Now what’s up? You said you needed to talk to me? Is everything okay?”

Just then, I caught movement out of the corner of my eye and turned my head slightly as I put my foot on the brake. I opened my mouth to cry out as I saw the car careening towards me, but nothing came out. There was nowhere to go and nothing I could do to get out of the way. The last thing I remembered was the phone flying from my hand and the sound of smashing glass and screeching metal. Then everything went black.

***

I blinked my eyes open, pain shooting through my body. I attempted to breathe out to relieve it, but that didn’t work. There was so much light. I tried to swallow but it felt like I was suffocating. Where was I? What was happening? I had no idea what hurt, but it sure as hell felt like it was everything.

Just as the pain was subsiding and I felt myself getting sucked back into wherever I’d come from, a heard a voice I didn’t recognize. Then someone was touching me softly, putting their warm hand on my cold one. I shivered, then moaned as pain radiated through my head.

“Carter? Can you hear me? Squeeze my hand if you can.” I had no idea who the soft voice belonged to, but I squeezed her hand anyway. The pain was bad, so bad. “That’s great, honey. Stay with us. Don’t try to talk or swallow yet, okay? I’ll be right back I’m going to get the doctor.”

Doctor? Why did I need a doctor? Why couldn’t I talk or swallow? I lifted my hands, but that wasn’t a good idea because the shot of pain that ran through my body made me whimper. I concentrated on breathing in and out through my nose, feeling the trickles of tears coming out of my eyes.

In what seemed like seconds but could’ve been days or weeks as far as I could keep track of, a man that must be the doctor was peering over me. He alternated between looking into my eyes and at a monitor above me.

“Welcome back, Carter,” he said. “You sure gave us quite a scare. Relax. I’m going to take the breathing tube out. Don’t attempt to talk yet after I remove it, okay?” I nodded, my head still swimming with what I was doing here and what had happened. That small movement made the room spin, and I closed my eyes against the sensation to pass out.

I gagged as he took out the tube and then he asked me to breathe normally while he checked my vitals. I attempted to swallow, my throat so dry it felt like nails were scraping down my esophagus.

“Sounds good. You can have a few sips of water, but don’t go crazy. Your throat will be sore for a little while.”

The nurse appeared on my other side and held out a cup. I took the small amount greedily, feeling relief as it slid down my throat. “Thank you,” I whispered, my voice sounding like I smoked a pack or two.

“Are you in pain?”

I nodded. “What happened?” I winced again as pain shot in streaks down my body.

“I’ll get you some more pain medicine in your IV,” she answered, ignoring my question. I looked at the doctor, who was writing something in a chart.

“What happened?” I repeated, hating the sound of my own voice.

“You don’t remember anything?” the doctor clicked his pen off and tucked it in his pocket. I closed my eyes, trying to figure out the last thing I remembered. Why wouldn’t they tell me? I opened my eyes and watched as she emptied a vial into my IV and hoped for instant relief.

My eyes widened as the sound of bending metal and broken glass resounded through my head. “I…remember the sound.”

The doctor lifted the bandage on my head. “The sound of what?”

I knew he was testing me for an indication of how well my brain was holding up. “Crunching metal and broken glass. I was in an accident, right?” God, my throat was killing me and my head was pounding.

The doctor nodded. “Yes.”

“Where’s…my mom?” I knew she had to be here somewhere. There was no way they hadn’t found her.

“I had the nurse call her,” he explained. “She’s been here every second and had just stepped out. I’m sure she’ll be here very soon. Get some rest and I’ll be back later to check on you.”

He turned to walk away, and a vision appeared in my head of a man standing next to my bed with my mom, but it wasn’t my dad. I narrowed my eyes, willing my brain to focus. Had that been a dream or real? And who the heck had that guy been? He’d talked to me, but I didn’t know what he’d said.

My eyes closed, feeling like weights were on my eyelids. The pain subsided and I began floating into sleep. Just before I lost consciousness, I remembered the man being here by himself, and the one word I could see over and over on his lips was, ‘Dad.’ Confused, I lost the fight to think anymore.

***

“I haven’t been a good man.” My dad’s eyes shimmered with unshed tears. I shook my head, not understanding. He and my mom were standing next to my hospital bed. When I’d last been awake, neither one of them had been here yet. Now they stood here telling me they were getting divorced after eighteen years of marriage and now he was going on and on about not being a good man? My brain couldn’t sort it out.

“What are you talking about? Of course you’re a good man!”

My eyes widened and I felt short of breath as he continued, telling me that my mom was in love with someone else when they were teenagers and that he’d made a huge mistake when I was a few years old. I wasn’t sure which was worse right now, my body pain or my heart pain.

“What do you mean?” I whispered. I hoped and prayed this was a dream. A nightmare. Please God. Help me wake up and realize this isn’t true.

“I found out that you weren’t my son.” I stared at him for so long I wasn’t sure the words I thought I heard were actually what came out of his mouth. But all it took was one look at my mother’s face to know it was true. I wasn’t Ronan Collier’s son. I closed my eyes, a sob ripping from my chest. Why me? Why did this happen? My dad, who wasn’t my dad, was still talking, but I had no idea what he was saying. My brain was roaring with his words and the dreams I’d had while in the coma. They were colliding and mixing together and I didn’t know which way was up.

“Who is, then?” I had to know. They needed to tell me.

My mom’s watery eyes looked into mine. “His name is Blake McIntyre.”

The name triggered something inside of me. “He was the one in the room with you. He was telling me he was my dad. It wasn’t a dream, was it?”

“No. I can’t explain how you were able to understand what was happening since you were in a coma,” my mom said. “But yes, that’s exactly what you saw. It wasn’t a dream.”

“Who is he?”

“We’ve been friends our entire life,” she said. “Our parents were friends and we spent two weeks together every summer. We were in love with each other when we were your age. Then a whole lot of things happened.” She paused, and I knew that it was because my dad, who now wasn’t my dad—Ronan—had done something to them. “We haven’t seen each other since that summer. When your dad said he wanted a divorce, I went back to the beach to Nana and Papa’s time share. That’s when we saw each other again. I’m not going to lie to you. We’re together now. I moved out of our house and I’m living with Blake in Fort Myers. I got a teaching job there, and I’m happy. So don’t get angry at your dad…er…Ronan. He made mistakes, but he does love you.”

Leave it to my mom to still not blame him, even after everything he did. She always tried to see the best in everyone. But not me. I couldn’t forgive it. I wouldn’t. How could I not be angry with him? He’d ruined both of our lives.

My mom was still talking, but the only words I heard before I drifted off again was that my dad, my real dad, was here, and he wanted to see me.

***

The door to my hospital room opened, and I knew right away it was him. My father. Blake McIntyre. My stomach clenched at the sight of him with my mom. I couldn’t help but notice, even though he wasn’t even touching her, that everything was all about her. He glanced at her constantly. He’d held the door as she walked into it and had given her a small smile, despite the circumstances. I wasn’t sure how to feel about what I was seeing, not that anyone was asking me.

“Carter,” my mom said. But I couldn’t look at her; all I could do was look at the man that gave me life. He was me, essentially, grown up. His eyes connected with mine, and I felt his sadness, even while he was smiling. His whole world must have been rocked to the core, too.

“It’s you,” I said, knowing I sounded like an idiot. What was one supposed to say in this situation? I hadn’t a clue. Up until a few days ago, my life had been perfect. Now I was in a hospital bed with injuries that were going to keep me from living a full life for a while, with a family that had been crushed by lies.

He nodded, looking over at my mom again before stepping closer to my bedside. “I’m…” he paused. “I’m Blake McIntyre.”

“You’re my dad,” I corrected. “My real dad.” I found myself smiling though I wasn’t even sure why. I liked him already, and I didn’t even know him.

“Yes. I just found out too, Carter.”

“I know. I heard what you said to me while I was in the coma. I didn’t understand it until my dad…my other dad…told me. I thought I’d been hopped up on some crazy drugs or had been having some whacked out dream, but that’s not the case. I’m your son. You’ve loved my mom for your entire life.”

“Yes,” he said, and I heard the emotion he was fighting in his voice. He put his arm around my mom’s shoulders, and as foreign as it should feel to see a man other than Ronan do that, it didn’t. I’d known this man all of five minutes and I knew it was right; normal. “I wish I would’ve known, Carter. It kills me.”

“My dad kept it from you.” Damn, I needed to stop calling him my dad. Ronan wasn’t my dad. Blake was. “Both of you.”

“Yes.” Blake’s eyes shimmered with unshed tears, and I found myself fighting the lump in my throat again.

“He’s not a good person,” I said, echoing Ronan’s thoughts from earlier. He was damn right. He wasn’t a good person. He knowingly and deliberately did this to all of us.

“He hasn’t made the best choices,” my mom interjected. “But we’re going to move on from here. Do you have any questions?” Leave it to my mom to try to smooth over what Ronan had done to her. To us. To all of us. She was always that way; my whole life she’d been the kindest, most compassionate person I’d ever known. But I couldn’t understand how she could feel that way towards Ronan now when all I felt was rage.

“I’m so confused,” I admitted. “I don’t understand why any of this had to happen. It’s like I don’t know who I am anymore. My last name shouldn’t be Collier. The family I thought was my family isn’t. I look at you, Blake, and I can see myself. It’s exciting and terrifying. I don’t know you, and that sucks.”

“It does,” Blake said. “There’s nothing we can do about that now, but what I can tell you is this. I love your mom, and I always have. We’re in this for the long haul, Carter. I want to be there for you, too, but I also understand that you can’t just jump into being my son. You’ve had another dad your entire life, and I’m not him.”

“He lied to me,” I whispered. The pain of that made my heart ache worse than the massive headache behind my eyes. “He lied to you.”

“He did,” my mom said. “In a lot of ways. I know you won’t understand this now, but someday you will. Being in love with someone, it’s everything. I’ve been in love with you since the day I knew you were coming, but that love is different. That’s the love of a parent for a child. When you find your soul mate, Carter, nothing can change the connection you have with them. So while the whole thing we’ve been put through has kept us apart for too many years, we’re going to be okay because we were meant to be. I don’t expect you to understand me going from being married to your…Ronan…to now being with Blake. I want to talk you through any concerns you have. Just know this isn’t something I’ve entered into lightly, and it’s not something temporary.”

“I don’t have any concerns,” I said. “I can look at Blake and see that he looks at you the way Dad never did. I thought Ronan loved you. He took care of us and we never wanted for anything. Now, seeing the two of you standing here, I see the difference.” And I did. I was terrified of it. All this time, I thought Ronan loved my mom; loved us. But it wasn’t love. It was manipulation and control. He orchestrated our whole lives to go the way he wanted them to and kept me from my real father and my mom from her true love. What did I even know about love anymore?

“Someday you’ll know this feeling,” Blake said, as if he knew what I was thinking.

I shook my head. There was no way I was going to put myself through this. “I don’t know.” But I did know. No way, no how was I going to put myself in a place to be that vulnerable to someone. I knew exactly what I wanted to do with my life, and even if my dreams had to slow down for a little bit, I was going to achieve them. And I’d be damned if I ever let someone manipulate me like Ronan had done to my mom. My whole life, he’d pretended to be something he wasn’t. I didn’t even understand how my mom could trust someone again, much less how I was going to be able to. The short answer to that was, I wasn’t.

“What’s the matter, Carter?”

“What should I do? Should I still talk to Dad?” I wanted them to tell me not to because I wanted nothing more to do with him. I wasn’t even sure I could look him in the face ever again.

“No one is going to stop you from having a relationship with him,” my mom said. “That’s completely up to you.”

“I’m angry with him.” I admitted. Despite my injuries, if he were here I would’ve tried to hit him, and I’d never hit anyone before. “I assume you’re the one that gave him the black eyes and broken nose?”

Blake looked at my mom again, then to me. “Yes.”

“I wish I could do the same.”

“Carter,” my mom interrupted. “He still loves you.”

“If he loved me, he wouldn’t have lied to me my entire life. Can you bring in Nana and Papa? I want to see them.” I couldn’t listen to her defend him. I knew what she was doing, but it was killing me.

Blake looked at me, unease written all over his features. “Can I bring in my parents, too? They’d like to meet you. My sisters are here, too.”

I squeezed my eyes shut, pain engulfing me. I wanted all of this to go away. I wanted to turn back time and have my life start over the way it should’ve been.

“They don’t have to, bud. We can wait.” My real dad’s voice was so gentle, so loving. He showed more concern for my well-being right now than Ronan had in the past eighteen years. If he’d cared about me, he would’ve told the truth.

“No,” I said. “Bring them in.” I needed to rid my head of the thoughts of Ronan before I did something stupid, and I couldn’t think of any better way than to see my real family.

“Are you sure?” my mom asked.

“I don’t know the people I’m related to, and I don’t want to waste any more time not knowing them. Bring them in.”

She nodded. “I just don’t want you to be too tired.”

“I’m fine, Mom.” I bit my tongue against the bitter tone in my voice. It wasn’t her fault. She’d been just as wronged as me, if not even more. I was as fine as anyone could be, waking up from a near fatal accident and finding out their whole life was a lie.

“I think Aunt Kinsley is here, too. You’ve had quite a gathering here, waiting for you to wake up.”

I turned my head away from them, looking out the window so they couldn’t see the raw emotion in my eyes. “Yeah. Great.”

Earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust; in the sure and certain hope of the Resurrection to eternal life.

Four caskets. Two bodies.

Jessica and Jude Day witness their funeral and that of their parents a few yards away from mourning family and friends. Stripped of the only life they’ve ever known, the Days say goodbye to San Francisco forever.

Four months later, two thirty-year-old misfits with elite self-defense skills and penchants for alcohol, sex, and trouble arrive like an earthquake to Peaceful Woods, a retirement community in Omaha, Nebraska, that thrives on rules and gossip. Welcome home, Jackson and Jillian Knight.

Jackson celebrates his new beginning by embracing his job and wiping his cavalier past clean with a temporary oath of celibacy. But Jillian’s past is branded into her soul—the deaths, the insanity, Dr. Luke Jones, and the need to make her lovers bleed. Her chance for redemption comes in the form of a next door neighbor, one Senior Master Sergeant Monaghan. He’s sexy, dangerously alluring, and riddled with emotional issues from years of service. He’s also … So. Damn. Grumpy.

Their mission is simple: Let go, start over, don’t kill anyone, and pray that nobody wakes the dead.

Review:

End of Day is another hit by Jewel E. Ann.  Jewel E. Ann is well known for brining lovable characters and a strong story line to readers.  End of Day mixes genres for fans of all sorts.  If you want mystery, check you get it.  Like a twisted unique romance, check you get that too.  Even add a tad bit of action and you have a complete book that will entice you to anticipate what will happen next.

Born as twins Jude and Jessica Day, life has not been an easy road these siblings.  After horrific events life now means becoming Jackson and Jillian Knight and becoming residents in an older community neighborhood.  There they start their life over and start on new adventures.  This includes fresh faces that will have them learning to care all over again.

Jessica has had the harder time in adjusting.  Leaving the life she had has brought her back to being someone she doesn’t like.  She meets a handsome Sergeant that she will enjoy adding a bit of torture to.  Can this man be the reason she heals?

End of Day is a bit dark but there are still many tender moments and times of laughter.  It wasn’t uncommon to go from tears to laughing just within a few pages.  That is what I love about Jewel’s works.  You just don’t know what you will get.  Surprises lurk everywhere.

This newest novel by Jewel E. Ann will have you rooting for siblings wrong by circumstances.  I can’t wait to see the direction Jewel E. Ann will take in her future books.  I have a feeling Jewel will roll out a few twists in her stories in the next several month.  Keep tuned in, we will post what is happening in the future.

“Have you ever killed anyone?”

Jessica’s smile slipped. “If I told you then I’d have to kill you.”

“So you’re a secret agent?”

She flipped onto her stomach, resting her chin on her crossed arms. “If I said yes then it would no longer be a secret. Come on, Jones, you’re losing your focus. Don’t let me feel smarter than you or our time together will be over and I rather like hanging out here.”

“Luke,” he corrected.

“Lucas.”

“Luke.”

“Lukey.”

“LUKE!”

“Lulu.”

“I mean it!” Luke showed another rare moment of teetering emotion.

Jessica chuckled. “What are the chances of us having sex? I’ve never done it missionary, but you could possibly counsel me through it.”

He refocused on his crossword puzzle, filling in a word in pen. “Less than zero percent.”

“So, not in my favor, eh?

“Why not missionary?”

Jessica smiled in delight that Luke continued with the topic of conversation. “I’m sure you already know, but if you want me to say I need control, then sure, I need control. But the truth is I’d control any sex position you want to put me in.” Jessica winked as Luke gave her a fleeting glance. “I just don’t want you thinking you have control, even if I know it’s not the case. Pisses me off to see the smirk on a guy’s face when he thinks he has control.”

“Tell me why you need control.” Luke continued with his crossword.

“In bed?”

“Yes.”

“Someone has to have it.”

“Why?”

“Because someone initiates it.”

“So if I initiate sex with you will I have control?”

“There’s only one way to find out.” Jessica wiggled her eyebrows at an ill-humored Luke.

In this third book in the sexy, suspenseful “The Secret Life of Amy Bensen” series from New York Times bestselling author Lisa Renee Jones, we meet Amy’s brother Chad—and the woman who either loves him or wants him dead.

Six years ago, Chad’s hunt for a dangerous treasure turned deadly when his family home was set on fire, his parents killed. Faking his and his sister Amy’s death to protect her from further retaliation, he set her up in a new life with a friend’s help, letting her believe he’d died.

But now the men who hired Chad to find the treasure have found him, imprisoning and torturing him to learn where it’s hidden. A dark-haired beauty named Gia helps him escape, promising him access to his worst enemy. And as he tries to unravel the deep secrets of the past, he starts falling for her…only to discover she’s not what she seems.

Unable to trust anyone, Chad focuses on only two things: protecting his sister Amy and getting revenge. Is love even possible in the midst of heartache?

Review:

Forsaken is quite the action packed, thriller of a novel.  You never know what you will get from one page to the next.  Surprise is the constant in Forsaken.  This is one ride that you will want to jump on the sooner the better.  While it is a stand alone, it mixes in with The Secret Life of Amy Benson series.  I suggest at some point you read the remaining series, but it is not necessary to understand Forsaken.

Meet Chad.  He is an adventurer.  A treasure seeker.  Chad was born to life a life of thrill.  Unfortunately, he mixes his business with some very bad people that end up causes causalities in his life.  A life of running has become his constant until he meets a woman he cannot decide whether to kiss or kill.

Gia has her own secrets that she holds close.  Chad and Gia don’t know whether to trust each other or not.  And they both have just cause.  Everything Gia understood has been tossed aside for a life on the run.  A beautiful woman such as Gia has knowledge that could become dangerous for both of them.

The story starts off with a huge bang.  I wondered if the story line could continue going as strong.  And it did not disappoint.  There was absolutely no time to take a breathe as the action was nonstop.  The conflicts both Gia and Chad faced were not overdone.  Just enough to keep the reader entertained.  I felt like at times I was a sleuth deciphering how to fit the puzzle together and unlock the mystery of the treasure.

The characters were relatable and defined so that you could see how they fit each other even when they acted like they were on opposing forces.  The antagonists in the story helped create a feeling that I definitely knew they were evil.  There were even some forces that you didn’t know whether to trust or not.

I highly recommend Forsaken to fans of romantic suspense, thrillers, and a story full of action.

Happy Reading!!!!

Excerpt

It’s nearly eight in the evening when I take the elevator to our secure, key-coded floor and enter the suite, where I immediately hear, “Chad! Is that you?”

Angry, I grab the chair in front of the door and shove it aside.

“Oh, thank God,” Gia gushes, flinging her arms around my neck. “You’re in one piece.”

Stunned by her greeting, by the way her sweet curves meld against me, I fight the heat rushes through me, untangling her grip and pressing her hands against the wall. “Tell me what you know about my sister,” I demand.

Nothing, Chad. I told you that. Is she—was she—”

“You know I didn’t find her.”

“I wanted you to find her. I was terrified for you.”

Anger expands in me, seeping into my veins, and on some level, I know it’s not about Gia at all, or maybe I just fear it will be about her. I don’t want to trust her and be wrong. “You barely know me.”

“I know you’re in pain. I know what being alone feels like, and I know that’s what you feel right now.”

Alone.

It’s a word that pierces my heart with guilt. It’s what I know my sister has felt for six long years. I was all she had, the only one she could count on, even if she didn’t know I was there—and I failed her. The pain is a seed that grows and expands inside me in an instant, and suddenly, or maybe not so suddenly, the idea of being betrayed by Gia is not as biting as the idea of failing her as well. My hands come down on her face, and I stare at her. “I have money and resources to hide you, and I promise you, no one will find you. But I won’t be there with you. I’m poison to anyone near me. You can’t forget that. I can’t forget that.”

I don’t give her time to reply. My mouth closes down on hers, my tongue pressing past her lips, stroking and stroking again, in what is instantly an aggressive, searching kiss. She moans, and I swear the sound of her moan shatters a piece of my soul that is already bleeding for my sister. In this moment, it feels like all I have left is this woman.

About BETTER WHEN HE’S BRAVE:

In New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Jay Crownover’s third novel in her sexy, thrilling Welcome to the Point series, a woman’s search for repentance leads her to the one man from her past she can’t forget as they join forces to save their city—and the explosive love neither can live without.

Titus King sees the world in black and white. Right and wrong. Which is why as a teenager he left behind the only family he’d ever known to make a better life for himself. Now a police detective in one of the worst cities in the country, he can’t deny his life has turned into a million different shades of gray.

The new criminal element in The Point has brought vengeance and destruction right to Titus’s front door, and the difference between right and wrong is nothing compared to keeping those he loves alive. To add to his already strained moral compass, the beautiful and mysterious Reeve Black has made her way back to town, and she might be as dangerous to Titus as the guy trying to destroy the Point because he needs her—in more ways than one.

Reeve knows all about how ruthless this new threat to destroy The Point can be… and instead of running away, she wants to help. She has a lot to repent for and saving the city, plus the hot cop that she hasn’t been able to forget might just be the only way she can finally find some inner peace.

With an entire city poised on the brink of war, Titus and Reeve stand in the crossfire—and it will take two brave souls to fight for the ultimate love.

Review:

Jay Crownover has hit a home run in her newest installment of the series Welcome To the Point. Prepare to take a ride on a journey that will lead “Titanium” Titus King back to a home he never knew he had.    Boundaries will be crossed, hearts will be opened, and family trust will be questioned.  All of this to end what is a freaking nightmare for all of those that call The Point home.

I call Titus King Titanium because that is what he reminds me of.  He is always trying to fight for those that are vulnerable and be the big, protector brother to Bax.  He believes in justice but when a certain girl comes into play, Titus will at times question his own motives and morals.  All of this to bring a bad man down.

Reeve is a woman who has spent much of her life on revenge.  A man sought out to destroy her and those she cares for must be brought down, but Reeve’s intention may just be what causes her demise with Titus.  Reeve and Titus are polar opposites, but their chemistry seems to sizzle.  Titus though won’t betray what he believes in just to bring revenge to those he serves to protect.

The story line and plot is absolutely captivating.  A suggestion: remember to breathe throughout the most exciting parts of the story.  Jay series of The Point is more edgy and raw than her usual Marked Men series, but it is still will leave you in awe of how she creates characters that you totally can fall for.  Makes me want to find my own good bad boy.

I highly suggest you check out Better When He’s Brave before the next story comes out.  The series is highly engaging and will leave you craving for more from Jay Crownover.  What a treat she brings to readers through her books.  I can’t wait to see what more is in store for The Point residents.

Happy Reading.

He was someone who belonged in my wildest fantasies instead of a rest stop in the middle of Nebraska.

A sexy, cocky, Australian named Chance was the last person I expected to run into on my cross-country drive.

When my car broke down, we made a deal. Next thing I knew, we were traveling together, spending sexually-tense nights in hotels and taking unplanned detours.

My ordinary road trip turned into the adventure of a lifetime. It was all fun and games until things got intense.

I wanted him, but Chance wouldn’t make a move. I thought he wanted me too, but something was holding him back.

I wasn’t supposed to fall for the cocky bastard, especially when I knew we’d be going our separate ways.

All good things must come to an end, right?

Except our ending was one I didn’t see coming.

Review:

Cocky Bastard is a novel that once you read it you will have it engrained in your head forever.  It will leave you swooning and in stitches contemplating the story for days.  Readers will want to reread this fantastic novel over and over.  It is one of my go to novels when my day is off and I need refreshing.  This is one book that you will not want to put down once you start.  My suggestion is to start reading early as not to lose sleep from not wanting to put down the book until the very end.

Ladies and gets, meet our newest Australian Book Boyfriend Chance Bateman.  Former soccer star, Chance will leave readers with a desire to watch him grow into the man he has yet to become.  When he does achieve that, watch out ladies and gents, the story line than will become quite explosive.

Aubrey and Chance first meet is quite unforgettable.  I will always have fond memories of this occurrence when I think about a bobble head Obama toy.  The story line just grows from there.  Chance and Roxanne will bring you laughter, times of heartbreak, and moments with gentleness that will have you feeling peace and smiling.  There are parts of the story that I will never forget.  I also have a new favorite pet memory to think about.

Chance is this man trying to do better in the world.  His life hasn’t always been easy.  The aspects of his character I loved are his fierce protectiveness and his love for family.  In the process of trying to protect Aubrey he ends up destroying her.  It isn’t until years later that Chance tried for his take of redemption.  Will Aubrey allow it back into her life though?  Readers, even with Chance’s faults you will love him.  I just couldn’t hate him even if his actions hurt an innocent person.

Aubrey initially swoons over Chance’s accent.  I loved how she enjoyed Chance saying Aubrey as – AH BREE.  I had to laugh at her reaction every time Chance said her name.  Aubrey character is vulnerable, kind hearted, but sometimes she builds a wall to not allow others to hurt her.  I could understand her reaction to the initial meeting of Chance.  Aubrey was leaving a situation where she had been hurt.

I can say that it was easy to relate to the story and characters.  The plot and conflicts of the story are ones that will have you wanting to reread this story again as soon as you hit the end.  I recommend grabbing a lemonade and sitting back on a sunny day enjoying the show the Chance, Aubrey, and Pixy can bring you.

Enjoy reading Cocky Bastard as much as I did.  It will be a story that will have you craving for more from these fantastic authors.

Happy Reading!!!

Excerpt

A knock at the door made me jump.

With a huff, I got out of bed and stood on my tiptoes to look out the peephole. Why were those things always so high on the door anyway? I was surprised to find no one standing on the other side. Maybe I’d imagined it.

Another knock.

I flicked on the lights. The sound wasn’t coming from the entrance door. It was coming from an interior door I hadn’t even noticed before.

Chance’s door.

I unfastened the top lock and cracked it open just enough so I could see what he wanted. And there he stood.

Shirtless.

Wearing only dark gray boxer briefs that hugged him like a second skin.

It took a minute to understand what he was doing there, even though he was holding up a toothbrush in question.

“I thought we had established I wasn’t a serial killer already.”

I opened the door wider.

He smiled.

Oh lord. Stop that. Right now.

“I must have left my toothpaste in my saddlebag in the car.”

I swallowed hard. “Uh huh.”

He cocked his head to the side, and his brows dipped in. “Can I borrow yours?”

“Oh. Yeah, sure.”

He walked past me and let himself into my bathroom. I waited at the door.

“You got an awful lot of girly crap in here for one night,” he said with a jumbled mouth full of toothpaste from the bathroom. “Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia.”

He was reading my Estee Lauder perfume bottle.

I heard him rinse and spit. Then there was a gargling sound. He used my mouthwash, too. Sure, help yourself.

He walked out and flicked off the bathroom light. “Is tuberose a rose?”

I shook my head, still confused by the whole situation going on.

“That’s why,” he murmured.

“Why what?”

“I couldn’t figure out what you smelled like all day. Not sure I ever smelled a Tuberose before.” He shrugged and walked back into his room but not before turning back. “Even those little black lacy underwear smell like tuberose.”

My eyes bulged. I’d taken off my bra and panties and left them on the bathroom counter.

“You…you—”

“Relax. I’m teasing. Do I look like an underwear sniffer to you?”

Yes.

No.

Maybe?

“Night, Aubrey.” He graced me with a dimple and disappeared.

AH-BREE. Damn him.

I locked the door and checked it twice, unclear if it was for my safety or his. His voice saying my name was on audio replay inside my head, getting softer and softer like a soothing lullaby with each breath as I drifted off to dreamland.

Until the knock came again.

Review:

Single, Volume 3 is the explosive finale to Parker and Roxanne’s story.  What a way for them to go out with a bow than how Lyra portrayed this dynamic couple in her newest book.  Parker and Roxanne will have a fight on their hands to see if they will finally receive a HEA.

In Single, Volume 3 readers see a crack in Parker showing us that he is definitely error prone.  Some of his actions have caused hurt and you definitely do not know if Roxanne can heal from that.  Parker will have to show Roxanne the man he truly is and he will have to stand with Roxanne when revelations open up to their relationship.  Priorities must be determined for these two.  Is a relationship worth more than career?

Roxanne must also struggle with a few stragglers that come out of the woodwork.  One being a long lost family member of hers.  It caused such division and turmoil in this close know family that I wondered if it would shatter the bonds that held them together.  Roxanne’s father also shows some not very good colors of his when secrets get revealed to him.  This is where Roxanne must decide to lose Parker or stand up on her own two feet.  Let’s just say there are a few surprises in store from our beloved Roxanne.

We also get to see a story between Stacey (Roxanne’s best friend) and Parker’s twin brother.  That is just another perk of Single.  Two stories for the price of one. Yippee!!

It was a great finale and I would love to go back and reread all three books just to relive Roxanne and Parker’s story.

Happy Reading!!!

SINGLE, Volume One

After failing miserably at love, Roxane VanBuren swears off men but not before her determined best friend shows her all the advantages of being single. After a wild weekend full of sex, old-flames, and secrets, Roxane is desperate to forget it ever happened. But she learns it isn’t that easy.

Since becoming the President of VanBuren Investments, she knows how important it is for her professional and personal life to remain separate from one another. If the two were to mix, the rumors could possibly ruin her reputation, which is bad for her and bad for business. To avoid that, Roxane allows rules to define and guide her every move. Unfortunately for her, Parker Williams is determined to break them all, one at a time.

SINGLE, Volume Two

Sometimes love can be cruel. Not that Roxane has fallen in love but the one man she found interesting has crossed from her personal life into her professional one which makes life complicated.

Parker Williams doesn’t take no for an answer, not that Roxane would deny him anyway.

He has his own set of rules that must be followed while hers are being crossed through like a to-do list.

When a person falls in love, it’s supposed to be easy but it’s much more complex than either realized it could be.

Roxane’s control is slipping along with every opinion she had about love. This time, it feels different. This time, it finally feels right.

Slowly she realizes how much is at stake, but she is only concerned about losing one thing—her heart.

Blurb

Excerpt
